So they removed my initial review because of lack of accountability on Google so I'm here. I encourage deep reflection without a defensive response if the owner and stylist want to provide a response as to why there was a lack of an apology to ripping out my earring and making me bleed So I gave this salon TWO tries and assumed the first time was just a bad experience and both times I had the same hair stylist. The first time, this woman was NOT ATTENTIVE AT ALL. As she was working with my layers and bangs/combing through them she yanked hard and pulled out my helix piercing CLEAN THROUGH AND I WAS BLEEDING. It was more of the fact that she told me "you should've told me you had earrings" which was just her trying to make me accountable for her not paying attention. There was a moment of silence and absolutely NO APOLOGY was given to me. The two workers in the salon were just silent and rummaging through what to do because she gave me back my earring with my blood on it and for those who have cartilage piercings, they are expensive and take a long time to heal. She ripped it through my DAMN EAR that's how hard she combed through it. I am young and have social anxiety so I was trying so hard to be understanding in the moment but she finished up and the lady at the front desk gave me a tiny bag to put my earring in. But there was ultimately no apology...just the hair stylist saying she's usually so attentive with her customer's earrings (which counters when she said it should've been my responsibility to tell HER that I had them..well if she was so attentive she should've seen them)... When I paid I think I should've gotten a discount because...I left the salon bleeding...AND THEN THE FRONT DESK LADY had the audacity to ask FOR A TIP...I did my best to see past it and knew the haircut was decent so I still left one. Yet I left with no apology and the hair stylist not offering to pay for the earring to be put back in when she knew I was gonna go to a piercing salon nearby to see what the damage was. It was just so frustrating trying to be calm when no one wanted to take accountability. The second time I came in, I wanted to give it a second chance because it was just a trim to me but when I was assigned the same stylist, I began having an anxiety attack and I was unsure if she remembered me but this time I pointed out that I had earrings and braced myself. This time my ears were safe but because I asked for face framing layers....THIS BOTCHED MY BANGS DISGUSTINGLY. She took out such a huge chunk and the bangs didn't even frame my face. It was just 2 BLOCKS NEXT TO MY FACE. Just two blocks sitting next to my face that when I finished I immediately contacted another hair salon to take me in and to fix it. The new stylist was so kind to me and he was much more attentive and straight up said "these are not face framing..I'll fix it for you because the past stylist took out so much. I'm gonna trim a new section so you can have face framing bangs but I will leave the longer pieces she cut out so they can grow and begin blending with the back" From the photos, you can see MY BLOOD on my fingers with the front desk sign in the background, the second photo is the very stylist holding up my hair while I tried to see the damage, and in the third photo was the second time I went and had my bangs ruined. To the dear stylist: If you were so attentive to earrings why did you flip it around and victim blame me by saying I should've told you? I'd like to preface this review by saying my hair is EXTREMELY hard to work with. Due to medications and hormonal issues, my hair never reacts to coloring the way one might expect. I've actually had stylists try for hours to do, and re-do, a color job only to essentially give up and tell me all they could do was dye my hair brown and start from scratch. My hair pulls VERY warm and I love neutral ash tones so... yeah. I didn't have a lot of hope of things turning out well. I have been to stylists (who specialize in color) all over the US (most recently in Southern California), so have a lot of prior experience to compare to. That being said... I bought a Groupon for a Balayage at Top Shop. It was my first experience with this salon. I called to make the appointment and spoke with Leah who set me up for an appointment with Olivia for the following week. The salon is in a strip mall area and there is plenty of parking. It is next to a school and I happened to be there right when school was getting out, so traffic was heavy. I was welcomed into the busy salon by the receptionist and the Olivia promptly welcomed me back to her chair. Olivia is very personable and we had a nice chat during my time there. We initially discussed what I was looking for, and I showed her my pinterest board so she and I could make sure we were on a similar page. Then she went to mix up the magic (lightener)! I had natural roots grown in (about a 5/6A) and the rest of my hair was a dark golden blonde (8/9G). I was expecting to be in the chair for ever, but I was not left to sit for ages. From start (walked in) to finish (walked out) was there for maybe 2hr 15min. Olivia really delivered for me!!! She used the ashiest toner they had and dried a piece after the first toner to see if I was happy enough with the level of ash-which I really was. I was and am ever so grateful for what she was able to accomplish with my hair! I will definitely be back to her for sure! The final effect was a lovely color melt look toward my root area and great ashy blonde dimension from the Balayage in the length. I am so grateful!! The customer service at Top Shop is amazing. I got my hair done today by Olivia and I am in the process of going blonde again and she did an amazing job. Not only is she super patient but she will take her time on your hair to make sure it's what YOU want, even if it means taking up ALL of her time and being her only customer for the day. She's super gentle when it comes to shampooing my hair which is something I enjoy because it's super relaxing and I absolutely love my hair. So after moving to Worcester, I was on a quest to find a good place to get a wax. I've tried a few places (see my reviews on St. Cyr and Bellisimo). After posting my reviews, I got an email from someone at Top Shop. I thought that was GREAT! I love hearing about new places via yelp. So I decided to go check it out. I made an appointment and arrived about 5 minutes before my appointment time. When I got there, the lady at the desk was having a social conversation with some guy. She saw me walk in, but continued her conversation while I waited. I waited a few minutes until she finally turned to me and asked what I was there for. Now, I don't know about other ladies, but I don't exactly want to announce that I'm here for a wax in front of a guy. That's private stuff! Unfortunately, she didn't really give me a choice, so embarrassed, I quietly said that I was there for a wax. She didn't hear me so she made me repeat it! Eek! Talk about humiliating. So that's just the beginning! When I go for a wax, I'm usually in and out in 15 minutes or less. They had me wait in their little waiting area since the lady wasn't ready for me yet. It was nice because the receptionist offered me some food and drinks. So I looked at some magazines and snacked on some pastries. I didn't think I'd be waiting for long. Boy, was I wrong. I waited for 45 minutes, which is absolutely unacceptable. I had an appointment! So when it was FINALLY my turn, I got to the back where they do the spa treatments, and I had to fill out paperwork! Because I didn't have any time to fill it out in the last 45 minutes. Anyway, the actual waxing was very good, and the lady was nice and very apologetic for the wait. The price was decent. If the service and wait hadn't been so awful, I might have stopped my search for a good waxing place. However, I don't want to wait 45 minutes every time I want a wax. The hairdresser- Vanya is extremely rough in handling hair. She explains this is because she has her own style of cutting. This may be because she is in a rush to get to her other client that is waiting or because I asked her to cut a little more. I did not feel comfortable with letting her know that I was unhappy with her work even if it was fixable. Website is misleading with prices so call and ask first or just tack on another $10-20 to the service...and they would prefer to tell you that it's cash or check only. So bring cash. Bought of Groupon and made an appointment with Jen who called me hours before my appointment which I thought was sweet. When I got to the establishment and walked to the front desk the receptionist was on the phone, she looked up at me then went back to talking on the phone. I stood there not sure about what to do or who to talk to then Jen ran up to me and greeted me. I had fake nails on and just wanted to get them redone. The Groupon says manicure and pedicure so I was ready to replace my fake nail but when I got there she she informed me she doesn't do fake nails. So I said, okay, I'll just get a gel pedicure and was again told she can't do gel. Like wtf! I paid $35 for a manicure and pedicure and it's going to go to waste. Sandy squeezed my daughter in for a blow and go. They advertise as a blow salon but it's really a full service shop. The shampoo and blow dry was 25.00 which is a great price. Stephanie spent almost an hour on my daughter. My daughter has almost super curly hair, super long. She blew it dry then flat ironed it. I'd recommend Stephanie for a blow out for sure. I bought the Groupon for the mani/pedi with Jenny. I never know what to expect when I get a Groupon, but I had previously had a good experience finding a salon with Groupon so I thought this might be good too! Very wrong. I was greeted when I came through the door by her telling me I did not answer the day before when they called to confirm my appointment. Well, I'm an RN and I work 7a-730p so I couldn't answer when they called and didn't have time to call back. Plus, I was only told to call if I needed to make any changes to my appointment. Not a great selection of colors. They weren't organized at all. She was rushing the ENTIRE TIME! She did my manicure first which I had never seen before. Usually they do pedicure first so your toes can dry. She told me multiple times how busy she was and kept looking at the clock and speeding through. She told me how she had been doing nails awhile and everyone in her country (Vietnam) does nails. She seemed to inspect my nails after every coat so I didn't pay close attention. I thought maybe she was fast because she had her technique down to a T. Very wrong. She kept messing up and instead of taking the polish off to start over, she put more and more coats on. The polish is all over my cuticles and lumpy! The pedicure barely had a scrub and the "massage" was a leg rub. She did both legs at the same time. Shellac manicure and pedicure done in under 1 hour. I purchased a Groupon a few months ago for a gel mani and a pedi, I was happy to hear that I could schedule an appointment 1 day before the Groupon expired. I met with Jenny and although there isn't an extensive selection of nail polish I found a great color. I had my dip nails soaked off and then went for my pedicure. She was attentive and quick which I appreciated. When I went for my gel mani, she took time looking at every nail to make sure they were perfect. Thank you! Jenny, their only manicurist, is very sweet, and has supposedly been doing nails for over 20 years. When she told me that the reason the mani/pedi Groupon was being offered was to help her establish a better base of clients, I assumed she had only been at this particular salon for maybe a year, but when I asked her, she told me she has already been there for seven years. Seven?! That made me nervous, because it's practically impossible to work at any salon for close to a decade and NOT develop a solid client base...unless you don't get repeat business and are pretty crummy at your work. Sure enough, she proceeded to rush rush rush, did a weak job removing my old polish, and then slopped on the worst mani/pedi I've ever had. Ever. She didn't even trim my cuticles; she just scrubbed at them for a second with a washcloth and cuticle remover. That was new. I was too surprised to say anything, which was my mistake. Then she painted OVER those still-there cuticles on several fingers, which of course means that now, just a few days post (shellac) manicure, the color is already chipping off in some spots and stuck to my cuticle in other spots. The color was spread thick in some areas and thin in others, but the most impressive part is that she didn't even get the sides of most nails! This stunned me, because she inspected each one very carefully...so carefully that I didn't think she was missing anything and didn't inspect them closely until after I left, which, again, was my mistake. I was also surprised to learn that the reason she was rushing through the mani AND pedicure so quickly was all so she could be done with both within an hour. She looked at the clock constantly! Not exactly the relaxing experience I was hoping for. I cancelled my second appointment - it was included with the Groupon, but the end result isn't even worth the gas to get there. I went there the other day after finding out about them on Yelp, and wasn't disappointed. I didn't have an appointment but didn't have to wait to long, maybe 15 mins. Peri did my hair and she was great. I didn't really know what I wanted to have done just a couple general ideas and gave her free range over everything else. She did great she came up with new ideas while not going to far from what I had in mind, and she made sure I knew what she was doing every step of the way. I have been coming to Top Shop Salon and Spa since it opened. It is my relaxing, pampering sanctuary. I not only have my hair cut and colored here, I use the spa for waxing and manicures.
