I look at having a Duala as an investment to your pregnancy, body and mental sanity. The support provided and given was phenomenal! I would HIGHLY recommend Kandice as she is very knowledgeable, adaptable and communicates very well. This was my 1st pregnancy and of course I was excited, nervous and anxious. I am an Atlanta, GA native with parents, siblings, involved partner and lots of friends...but I am also a slight control freak with Type A personality traits. After the shock of finding out I was pregnant and going to a few doctors' appointments, I felt something was missing from my care, coupled with me wanting to have a natural (non-medicated) birth. My OB Team was great and always answered my questions but I felt the void of having a quick go to person (outside of opinionated friends and elder family members) to help prepare me and my son's father for this journey and be at the hospital as a personal comfort to be alert of what's going on being that I would be dealing with labor pains. I began researching this void and ran across Midwives and Doulas. After going to Meet and Greets and doing interviews, I felt the best connection with Kandice via culture, personality and knowledge. Kandice, myself and my partner met a few times and it was like meeting an old friend. We both thoroughly enjoyed every interaction with Kandice all while learning and preparing for the big day! I specifically liked having the closeness of someone with Kandice's skillset a phone call or text away and she always had an answer and/or just reassuring words. As I entered my 9th month of pregnancy Covid-19 was settling in the states with rules and policies changing in the hospital. My plan to have Kandice by my side had to be tweaked but it greatly worked out. We decided to do some at home laboring and we then go to the hospital, which is exactly what happened.....at 2am. After working through some contractions at home me and my partner went to the hospital with Kandice trailing behind us to ensure we arrived ok and labor more if needed. Upon arrival, I was 6cm dilated and things were moving fast. I moved through triage quickly and was admitted, the L&D Team kept stating how they were happy I arrived ready to go and I must've had a birth coach because most new moms come very early which lends to a long birthing experience or being sent back home. I safely delivered a full term, healthy baby boy. I did end up getting an epidural at 8cm but the amount of medication my body received was minimum and I felt well prepared and had enough energy to push, which happened a few hours later after arriving. Since I was only able to have 1 guest (which was my son's father) I spoke often to Kandice on the phone and she made herself available for video chat if needed as I navigated the waters of breast feeding. The package I chose included a post-partum visit which was greatly needed and appreciated. I had the opportunity to be home for a few days before my post-partum visit which rewarded me some time to talk through things with Kandice about my healing coupled with caring for my newborn son and his needs, feeding, etc. Again, I took the time to detail my experience because I strongly feel Kandice was an integral part of my team and it ultimately aided in such a wonderful and rewarding life experience.

She explained the process from a mother and father's point of views but also the baby's point of view. She reassured me how much a woman's body is naturally built for childbirth. She gave several examples of the different positions necessary for a comfortable early, active, and transition into labor. Overall, having Kandice as a doula has given me comfort in exploring the possibilities of natural motherhood.

Recently my sister was married here. She also held her reception here. I absolutely love the space. It's on the National Registry of Historic Places, so it has all the charm one would need. There is exposed brick, columns, a winding staircase and plenty other beautiful features. It has a great location on Telfair Street. The gates and the stone pathway as you walk up are great. The parking is tricky. You can park on the street and there is a small lot behind the building, but if you're expecting a large crowd they're sure to complain. However, directly across from the venue is the City's municipal building with plenty of parking. Also, downstairs are bathrooms and a dressing room. We used it to get ready. The venue also has a kitchen for caterers use and service elevators. Overall, great venue. Visit it anytime because it has lots of history too.

Now imagine a historic, located in downtown Augusta, multilevel, and picturesque from top to bottom. Well, imagine no more. This building has been around since 1835, with the focus primarily being medical (hence the name). The nod to Greek architecture is astounding and the team who manage it are helpful in every way. The space is now available for rental and I found myself there for a wedding (in the role of officiant). I wandered around (since I have plenty of free time before ceremonies begin) and found where they store the various tables and chairs. I also saw the separate spaces that can be used for dressing rooms or dining areas. Gorgeous! The tall ceilings and intricate detail demand that you take a selfie. If you have an event of any magnitude coming up, consider having it here. You will not be disappointed.
