DISORGANIZED CHAOS FOR CHILD'S PARTY. STAY AWAY!!!…read more We were 1 of 3 groups who had an event at Association Montreal Beach on the same day, and, like the other 2 (one of the groups we know well), an event that was supposed to be a relaxing time to celebrate a special occasion was instead a chaotic mess. I waited to write this review until we spoke to someone today, the day after the "event", but after getting a response that was full of excuses and defensiveness but void of any semblance of responsibility, compassion, and understanding, I'm not holding off any longer. The Yelp community needs to know about this experience. We arrived to find a SINGLE staff member on site, the bartender, busy pouring beer for the crowd enjoying the nice weather on the deck of the adjoining pub (and counting his tips from those sales), he wasn't even the slightest bit interested in managing the parties that had booked space in the facility. It's not his fault he was the only one there, but it is his fault that he paid us NO attention. One person is not enough to take care of the pub customers AND 3 events involving over 100 people, especially when that person either has no idea what the plan is or, dare I say, there was no plan to begin with. Our party would never have happened if I did not step up to insist that the staff member do SOMETHING or for the cooperation of one of the other rental groups in moving to make space for us to set ourselves up; no thanks to the staff member on site. Obviously, the space that we had to virtually beg for was not cleaned or tidied up for our arrival, because, well, the other group vacated just for us. An animator that was supposed to be present was not there, despite being paid for in advance, and we spent so long arranging the logistics, time which took away from our enjoyment of our own event - the only reason we booked a facility in the first place. Aside from the "party room" area, the fees we paid were specifically for sole use of one "court" but when we got there, there were none available. 2 were being used for beach volleyball games, 1 was being used by the other birthday party, and 1 was being used by the VERY large group of people who generously made space to accommodate us in the party room. But their kids were much bigger (and wilder) than the kids in our group, and we wanted a space that was just for us - A SPACE THAT WE PAID FOR!!! After a while of being ignored, I bothered the guy at the bar enough to make him understand that he needed to act. After supplied proof that there was no dedicated court for us, he said the volleyball players shouldn't be there". And stopped. So??? Are you going to do something? He told me to tell them to get off the court. Me???? No. That's not my job. Not my responsibility. What???? In what universe is it okay to ask a rental group who PAID to go and do the work of a facility employee??? None. Never. I will spare Yelpers the minute details of this experience (this review is long enough, no?), but suffice it to say that Association Montreal Beach had no problems organizing themselves to collect our payment but when it came time to providing the service, they were nowhere to be found. Today, the OWNER (what????) told us that if we weren't happy with how things started, we should have just left. What??? Leave with 12 children, their parents, our family members, who just drove through traffic to get to a party? Ridiculous! Just making that suggestion reeks of complete carelessness for the problems that she caused. Zero acknowlegment of how they completely dropped the ball on our event. None whatsoever. Apparently, one of the staff who were hired and didn't show up "broke her hip"... Where's the manager? The owner? Any other staff? The animator that was paid for?? It's hilarious to think that the OWNER believes that that would have solved all of the problems. Not even close. Over the 2 hours of the event, NO OTHER STAFF SHOWED UP TO SUPPORT. No one cared enough to come make it right, or even make an appearance. And to top it all off, we found a screw in the sand when one of our guests stepped on it . DANGEROUS! Photo attached. All this to say that we STRONGLY discourage any group from planning a party or event in this facility. Association Montreal Beach only cares about your payment. After that, you're invisible. Update 2018 : this building has been torn down, so now it's just sand and a volleyball net next to…read morethe canal! Nothing unique at all as I thought an indoor sand box was such a great idea, now it's dead. ----- This is SO needed from November through April and then on rainy days during the spring and summer! It's right next to the canal so walk all the way down and you'll find the entrance which reads as "Pub McCardell" as the entrance leads to a cafe/bar next to the outside terasse. Once you walk through the cafe, you'll see a giant gym filled with sand. Perfect for volleyball and other sand sports. I went for the 10am-12pm Sunday morning kids play. It's $6 per child and they don't charge for adults. There are toys, balls, frisbees there so no need to bring your own. What's not to love about this and for the price it can't be beat! I can imagine how awesome it gets to sit on the terrasse in the summer. They also have live music certain nights. I also enjoyed the music. Bonus: Free parking

Since it was pretty rainy the days we visited Montreal, we took the niece to one of her favorite…read morespots: Funtropolis! Was it "trop fun?" Definitely for the niece. For HOURS, and I mean it, HOURS of fun and distraction for the kids, they basically run around in various areas: multiple level maze, shooting area, laser area, bumper cars, and arcade. The only areas that are extra costs are the bumper cars (which needed an extra ticket) and the arcade (which needed tokens). Since the niece was a certain age, the bumper car ticket was free, but only 1 ride. Before entering, you do put away all your jackets and shoes, so make sure you do wear some comfy socks that you know can get dirty. The bumper cars was about a song length in duration (~3-4 minutes). The bumper cars basically spin around every minute to shuffle folks. Then there are two levers to move the car, one to spin and the other to go forward and back. The niece is 6 and she easily figured out the controllers by herself. You also must be at least 5 for this activity. We didn't get to go into the laser area but we did step into one area where you can kind of do a whack-a-mole type of activity where there are 6 stations for each person to tap on squares on the wall that light up. The shooting area is more like foam balls and think American Gladiators where they have stations where you can put in a foam ball and shoot people on the floor. There are several arcade like machines with shooting games, rides, etc. Nothing too big or time consuming but definitely can keep kids wanting to keep spending money. Try to divert them to the active games. The multi-floor maze was where we spent most of our time. There are obstacles, zip lines, slides, trampolines, etc. Now the trampolines are small and there is a sign that says only 1 person at a time....some kids and even adults do not read this sign. The niece kind of told one adult that only 1 person can go in and he rolled her eyes at her. Wow. Some people don't know about safety. Now let's talk about safety. There's really no one regulating the areas. So it's trust your child to make sure they're safe. Yes a lot of the areas are padded. But it was pretty much....go at your own risk. I saw many kids sniffling, coughing, etc. I just wore my mask the whole time and just sanitized the heck out of my hands as I cannot get sick! Overall, if you're a kid, it's super fun. I chased the niece all over the place. I was sweating up a storm. I did it for a fraction of the time she was running around. Also if you're wanting your kids to be tuckered out, this is the place. On our way home, she was just quiet. Yeah, it tired her out that much. Super fun, but wish they had more cleaning staff or ensuring areas are safe to go into. I wish they had people manning the trampolines and ensuring folks only stay in for a certain amount of time. I know the niece ended up jumping for more than necessary and there ended up a line behind her so we had to ask her to move on so others could go. Either way, good fun time. A little screaming sensory overload. It definitely will give you an idea if you want kids of not lol!

Party package is $270 + tax for 8 children and 2 adults, with possibility of paying for additional guests. Tables are reserved for 3 1/2 hours. For people wanting to host a fun birthday event, it is well worth it, if you can afford. Party groups are held on the mezzanine floor with lots of seating available. Although they sell basic snacks, food and non-alcoholic drinks are allowed to be brought in from outside. The place is huge with lots of different activities, including giant spider web, slides, bumper cars and 4D 5 minute movies that will keep kids of all ages occupied for hours and hours. Bumber cars (one-time ride) is included in the birthday package, and could also be purchased separately. Bumper car rides are $4 + tax each ride, or $12 + tax for 4 rides. It can be somewhat noisy, with all the screaming of excitement, and a good way to burn all that energy. The place, including the washroom, looks reasonably clean, but too crowded, in my opinion. The number of people should have been limited. This is a perfect breeding place to catch an infection. While the entrance was rigidly monitored, exit was a different story, as any adult(s) can leave with a child.

Le Crux has started a great activity that I just love. Climbing and bouldering! It's an amazing…read moreexercise. A great activity for cardio, strength training and endurance for many muscle groups. Being new to this sport they offer for you to rent climbing shoes and a harness very easily at Le crux for inexpensive. Bring socks. They have many options for day pass, a set # of visits and 1/2 year or annual passes. I started this challenging new sport in the summer time and noticed on a few visits this summer that they do many day camps for young kids. Beware as on the camp days over by the ninja warrior gym those walls can get fairly busy. On the first visit you must sign their waiver and have an intro by a staff member. The process does take a bit of time and thus if there is a big group upon arrival the entrance can get backed up a bit when you arrive. Stay patient. The fun is about to begin. I usually do a bit of top roping at different degrees of difficulty and then go for some bouldering. Bouldering is more difficult and harder on the hands. Working on building up endurance and strength. My average visit is usually around three hours. After that my hands feel sore and chafed. For some of these guys/ girls who are more advanced it's pretty amazing to watch them climb. They make climbing up the walls look so easy! It's like a monkey chasing after a stash of bananas at the top. Oh how I wish this sport was around when I was a scrawny skinny teenager! It would have been easier when I was pounds lighter. :) The complex is quite large with lots of different options from beginner to quite difficult! There is bouldering on the main floor and second floor. Also on the second floor is a gym for strength training. The do sell climbing shoes and chalk in powder and block format. Also there is a cafe with quick healthy prepared food options. Also the have areas where you can sit at a picnic bench, eat a lunch and take in some of the bouldering action. Le crux has announced a new location coming soon in a laval . So I can't wait to see see how it's planned out different. Also hopefully they allow you have access to visit both locations with a membership. It's a great sport and great activity to take young kids along with to burn off some steam. Now that's a pretty lofty goal to be honest. So I was looking forward to seeing why it's #1. L O C A T I O N Though folks say this spot is in Montreal, it's not. It's in Laval. It's not a far drive (roughly 30 minutes). We arrived at this large building/warehouse. The sign where the name is isn't where the entrance is and you have to go to the left of it to enter the building. There are signs at the door to tell you where to park. Plenty of parking. I N S I D E You walk in and there are lockers to the right and on the left a coat hanging area which is essential during the winter months. There is a wall of board games on the side and folks inside I believe waiting for their turn or perhaps they're the actors waiting for their next guests to arrive. Lots of areas to sit. There is a large rest room for all sexes. It reminded me a lot of the Star Wars land bathroom in Disneyland. There's a large center sink area and a steam punk like vibe in there. E X P E R I E N C E - M A G N I F I C O We entered and went to the desk. Unfortunately the lockers were all taken but they took our purses and left them behind the counter and we hung our jackets on the coat rack. We paid for the experience which is definitely one or the more expensive escape rooms per person (Roughly $190 CAD which included tax). This specific experience is 2.5 hours long and it did take us the whole 2.5 hours as it's meant to take up all that time. After a few minutes or so we were handed a ticket to join the circus and also asked if we wanted the experience in French or English. I think for the sake of us getting through puzzles, English was best. Then we were told of what we can or cannot do and also letting us know not to laugh at the actors. I guess it's happened enough that folks need to be told to be respectful of people. Then off we went. I won't spoil what happens but here are my thoughts on the whole experience. Do I think it should be #1? I don't know. Do I qualify this to be a escape room? I wouldn't. I would say it's more an interactive experience with fairly straight forward puzzles with a linear storyline. The Good Parts: + Very immersive + Easy to follow storyline and puzzles + Help was given freely + Lots of activity The Not So Good Parts: + Not really an escape room + Not really on a time crunch + Puzzles are straight forward + Hints are pushed on you relatively quickly, if you're taking too long or going down the wrong path + No way to "lose" or "fail" + Not so great for folks who cannot climb steep stairs + One of the puzzles isn't really accommodating to tall people and folks wearing big boots O V E R A L L I think as an immersive puzzler experience it's quite a memorable one but you will absolutely take all 2.5 hours. I thought oh, that should be the max time....nope. We breezed through some puzzles. Maybe 2 or 3 were a little more time intensive or we were going in the wrong direction but it's due to the story that it does take that long. The hints were really pushed on you. You'll notice lights flashing or straight forward a voice from afar saying, it's not that, don't focus on it. In terms of puzzles, they weren't super challenging especially if you've done other escape rooms. There's no sense of "escaping" anything or a time limit. So that was a little bit disappointing. There's no way you can fail in this experience. If you can't solve it, they will give you the solution to move the story along. Was it worth the price? I think if you consider it like a musical or play and most tickets are roughly that in good seats, then you're basically front and center in the whole action and doing some puzzles, then maybe? Did I think it was the best in the world? I think as an immersive experience, it was definitely impressive but in terms of difficulty of puzzles, not so much though some puzzles were creative in making use of the space you were in. It's hard to recommend, but overall, it was a good time. Just not really the escape room experience I was expecting.

We played: Wardrobe for Sale Magnifico's Circus The Forgotten Cathedral Lost Island of the Voodoo Queen The Final Stop (And the now-closed Rain Corp) We ran these games with a team of six. For The Final Stop, however, I would strongly recommend four people for the best experience. This isn't just escape rooms; it's massive, cinematic-level immersive theater. Scale and Tech: The sets are absolutely MASSIVE, housed in a sprawling warehouse. Everything felt incredibly high-tech and meticulously built. You can tell they made a massive investment in creating a truly theatrical world. Magnifico's Circus (150 minutes): This room is one of the highest-rated in the world for a reason. The 2.5-hour runtime flies by. It's a huge, spectacular adventure where the actors are truly phenomenal--their passion for their craft elevates the entire experience to a new level. Game Lengths: The standard rooms are a satisfying 75 minutes long, giving you plenty of time to explore the huge environments and complete the challenges. Acting: For every single room, the actors were brilliant and clearly love their job, making the story and immersion perfect.
