Excelente servicio, buena comida, y precios económicos. Provecho!

I pulled up and this lady turned off her open sign as the people in the kitchen laughed.

I'll never come here again, the worker turned the light off in my face and turned her back while the cook laughed. A simple I'm sorry we're closed would have sufficed. As I've never been here so I wasn't aware of the business hours.

Las tortas has the best tortas in the area, all the ingredients are high quality, the whole place is spotless clean, the staff is very nice, and everything they sell is delicious! Highly recommend the Ternera and Pierna with cacahuate salsa.

No, a torta is not just a sandwich, it's made with flavorful ingredients, delicious meats and the bread has to be the perfect bolillo (french bread). This small, corner in a strip center delivers some delicious tortas, soups and salads. Torta combo comes with your torta, salad or soup and a drink. They're soups are always so flavorful and bold (even the not so typical chicken noodle) which is what I had on Thursday. The soups change daily so you can mix up your order. If you're a cilantro lover, you cannot skip out on their cilantro salad of mixed greens piled high with tangerine slices, almonds and their homemade creamy cilantro dressing. I've tried a couple of the tortas but from their Mexican, Argentinean and Vegetarian menus, my favorites are the Milanesa (french bread, milanesa [I switch the beef with chicken], black beans, avocado, cream, red onions and I add queso fresco). The traditional De La Barda (french bread, black beans, ham, veal, queso fresco, mexican chorizo, onion, tomato & avocado) is also tasty! Make sure to try their hot sauces laid out on the table and if you can really handle the heat, ask for the chicharron green sauce! Of course you can get your boring Diet Coke or Dr. Pepper but they have horchata & jamaica agua frescas! Fresh, delicious & quick... me gusta!

Great little Mexican restaurant with amazing tortas. Ive tried their Cubana, Italiana, and La Portuguesa. I usually always get the combo with their salad which has such a delicious cilantro dressing, like for real you'll want to out this dressing on everything. They use pan francés (French bread) and it's very fresh, and have the best jamaica. This last visit I decided to switch it up and ordered the Ternera y Pierna torta with the soup of the day which was the Sopa de calabaza (zucchini soup), and Horchata. I'm not a fan of Horchata because it's usually overwhelmingly sugary, but holy cow this was delicious it was like the perfect level of sweetness but great paired with the torta and soup. The soup was really flavorful but I would have hoped for it to be less runny. I prefer the consistency of the zucchini soup from Siempre Natural but Las Tortas wins by a long shot in the flavor category. NOW the main event! The TORTA! The Ternera y Pierna is definitely a MUST try. It's shredded beef, pulled pork, chicharrón (pork rinds), tomato, onion, sour cream, and avocado, topped with dressing. I added their green salsa to the torta for the perfect flavor explosion. The staff and owners are all great people and do a great job at making sure the place is clean and check up on you regularly. I love this restaurant and make it a point to eat here when in McAllen. Seriously the best tortas!

Here are a few of the light, fresh, healthy items on the menu.

The torta de barda is amazing! Just be careful with the spicy peanut salsa it's EXTREMELY HOT and can ruin your meal if you put too much.

A Hidden Gem for Mexican Seafood -- Don't Sleep on This Place!…read more As a traveler from California in town for a swim meet, I was on the hunt for good Mexican seafood and stumbled upon La Costa Grill. Based on the reviews, I had decent expectations -- but this place blew them out of the water. The ratings honestly don't do it justice. From the moment we walked in, the hospitality was warm and genuine. We were greeted by the hostess and seated right away, even during the lunch rush. Then came a wonderful surprise: our server brought out a mini skillet of the most incredible black refried beans for dipping, alongside four salsas ranging from mild to hot, all served with tostadas -- compliments of the house. Back in California, you're lucky to get one salsa, let alone refried beans as a free starter. It immediately set the tone for the meal. Our server was knowledgeable and genuinely helpful with recommendations. We ended up sharing a lunch portion of paella, an octopus taco, and a fish ceviche tostada -- and every single dish delivered. The octopus taco was a standout; served over a layer of refried beans, it was a flavor combination I didn't know I needed. The ceviche tostada was fresh and bright, and the paella was satisfying and well-seasoned. I also have to give our server extra credit for her transparency -- she mentioned upfront that the paella leans heavier on rice than seafood. That kind of honesty is rare and really appreciated. We ordered it anyway, and we were glad we did. If you're visiting McAllen and want authentic, flavorful Mexican seafood with outstanding service and hospitality, La Costa Grill needs to be on your list. I'll absolutely be returning before I head back home.

Otherwise, the "tamales" in the DC area are so MID. The tamales around here are of the Central American variety and, they're fine. But sometime they're steamed in a square shape and wrapped in a banana leaf. Of if you can find an "authentic" Mexican style tamale wrapped in a corn husk, they're something off about the Masa to filling ratio as well as the flavor profile with the DC versions often being too sweet requiring them to be drenched in some type of sauce. That's why when I'm back in TX, I load up on bbq and tamales. I was told by all the locals in the greater McAllen / Edinburg area that Delia's makes the best tamales...and they were right! Delia's is a local chain with outposts around the Rio Grande Valley. I visited a few of them, and they're all quite similar. The interior is more reminiscent of 1990's style fast food with basic plastic booths with a few older style tables/chairs. The lightning is dim florescent, with muted dull color tones. But you're here for the food, not the decor. I ordered six of the spicy pork and six of the bean/cheese/jalapeno flavors. Awww man, can I tell you...these were ah-mazing! They arrived wrapped in foil and steaming hot. Unwrap each one, and the texture of the masa is soft without being mushy. And the filling of the meat as well as the veggie varieties are perfectly spiced without being overly salty. Do yourself a favor and get the "green salsa." It's a mix of guac and salsa Verde. All you have to know, is the green salsa pairs so well with the tamales. Just kind of bummed that post-COVID, the self-service salsa bar is now closed. I asked one of the employees about this, and she mentioned it's highly unlikely it will ever return. I obviously couldn't eat all 12 in one sitting, so I took the majority back to the hotel, where I enjoyed them for lunch over the next few days. I even stopped in here before my flight back to DC and immediately froze a bunch for reheating in the next few months. Fast friendly service, and loved how there was a lady out in the dining room, demonstrating the art of working the masa, and then individually filling and then wrapping each tamale...by HAND! I was sure to drop in a few bucks in the tip jar, since you should acknowledge all the work required to produce a quality product at such affordable prices.
