Las Savell is a local Memphis jewelry store from what I can tell. I came here to have my fiancee's ring resized from a 7 to a 6.25 (yeah, I know you needed to know that lol....I'm a horrible guesser of ring sizes:-P). The resizing was a decent price; around 50 dollars with tax included. I checked out the store's selection, they had a decent amount of selection; they had low end stuff to high end stuff. I only gave a thorough inspection into their watch selection as I'm into watches, and their prices were actually decent for a city without a jewelry district. An early 90's 18k yellow gold Rolex Presidential was only 8k dollars or so. I didn't check out the watch itself totally to see if it had an aftermarket band or anything, but 8k for a Presidential with even an aftermarket band is a pretty good retail deal. They also had lower end watches such as Techno Marine and Timex; I think they also had a consignment portion. All in all the service was pretty good, the ladies behind the jewelry counter are not pushy at all and in fact have a really good sense of humor! The lady who helped me out was shooting one-liners every other sentence lol. As with all jewelry shopping, do your homework, especially if you're buying diamonds. Gold shopping is at least easy to comparison shop as 10k, 14k, or 18k is what it is. Just don't think you can buy gold at the spot price of the gold market. It just doesn't work like that. Shopping for diamonds is much harder; everything is very subjective. If you don't feel want to put in the effort and just don't want to get ripped off, just do your comparison shopping to diamonds with a GIA report. GIA is the gold standard; you'll pay a premium for diamonds with a GIA report attached to your diamond, but at least you know you aren't getting ripped off. After that you're on your own with your own eye. For me personally though, buy the diamond, not the report. read more

Several years ago my husband took my wedding rings for an annual check, and to look at one prong in particular. When we got it back, it looked nice, but the channel diamonds began to fall out, one into the carpet never to be found again. My husband gently took them from his sobbing wife, and returned to Las Savell the next business day (two days later). They first claimed it was my fault the diamonds fell out (I "must have been doing something that caused the diamonds to come unseated."), then claimed that they would repair the ring, but my husband would have to pay for a new diamond to replace the one that ended up in the carpet somewhere, THEN, when that was a no-go, said, fine (more like FINE through gritted teeth), we'll replace the diamond and repair the ring. My husband went back two days later when the ring was ready and brought it home. I was devastated when I saw what they had done: someone had yes, replaced the diamond, but, instead of retaining the look of the original setting, someone had just WHACK WHACK smashed the channels down from the top, leaving the ring with quite visible and very marred flat areas - the channels were uneven and unlovely. My husband took it back AGAIN, and they refused to work on it, saying I just needed a new setting and they would be happy to sell him one. At that point he declined to let them touch it any more. We took it up to the family jewelers in Ohio (they've been selling to and caring for my NW Ohio-residing relatives' jewelry since the late 1800s), and they were crestfallen - the ring that was once so beautiful was a genuine mess, and the replacement diamond stuck out like a sore thumb under the loupe - it had not been replaced with anything comparable to the other stones. We ended up purchasing a stunning setting from them, replaced the bum diamond, and added two, all just in time for our tenth anniversary. THEY did a marvelous job that has stood the test of time. We continue to reach out to them from Memphis whenever we are in the market for another piece of fine jewelry - and whenever I need adjustments or checks - rather than entrusting anyone else locally. I gladly bear the expense of the trip / insured postage to deal with people I know to be so utterly scrupulous and with such excellent taste and judgement. To say I would never go to or recommend Las Savell is an understatement, and each time I drive by to this day, my heart sinks and I feel a little prick of anger. Not only did they utterly devastate a lovely piece of jewelry, they smashed and utterly ruined something very dear to me. Never. Again. read more

This store USED to be one of Memphis's finest. They are living off of old reputation. These people have forgotten what customer service is. I bought a ring for my wife and it was inferior in quality and they refused to take it back. Do not waste your time with this store. read more

Well, she said yes, so I guess I can't complain. In all honesty, I couldn't be more satisfied with my entire ring-buying experience at Las Savell. She found a ring she loved, but decided that she'd LOVE it if a few small changes were made. Richard created a work of art that was exactly what she wanted, and he did it for a reasonable price. I wouldn't recommend that anyone go anywhere else. Las Savell is also the only jewelry store I've been to that actually has jewelers (yes, plural) on-site. That means that if you want modifications done, they can take care of it right here instead of sending it off to who-knows-where. And we're not just talking about resizing here - my fiancee at first considered adding diamonds along the shank of her ring, and Richard said that he wouldn't have any problem doing that. I couldn't even begin to wrap my head around how that would be done, but he talked about it as if it was no more difficult for him than running to the store for a bag of chips. They're absolute professionals here, and they're very good at what they do. Good luck finding that kind of service or talent at the mall. Also, don't be put off by what might at first seem like a relatively small selection, especially if you're looking for engagement rings. We sort of put the staff here through the wringer as she was trying to figure out what she wanted, and no matter what she came up with (and believe me, she came up with some out-there stuff), Richard would call me within a few days and say that he had found exactly what she was looking for. They have extensive contacts within the industry, and the talent to assemble or create just about anything you dream up. There aren't a whole lot of these small, locally-run operations anymore, especially in the jewelry industry. But if you find a good one, the creativity and talent of its staff will pay off in spades. What a nice midtown shop, friendly service with great selection. They will always get my family's business.

My husband and I bought my engagement ring and wedding ring here 20 years ago. We had our rings resized before, it took the Master Jeweler one minute to do it and right in front of us. No heating, no adding, no cutting. It was free. But recently, I went in and wanted my ring to be resized. It was my biggest disappointment. They held my ring for one week and charged me $60. I did not feel it changed at all. My finger is honest about its feeling. When I called, the lady claimed that they cut it and added material into it. Really? She said if I am not satisfied with it, I "should go find another jeweler." Then she hung up on me! Absolute worst customer service! read more

I had a nice experience the first time I came in. An older woman was very nice and took care of my needs. I asked her about having my wedding band redone to match my new ring and she said of course. So, naturally I returned with my husband to inquire about having it reset. And then I met her. This woman, literally the rudest person I've ever met in my life, stood in front of me. She seemed to be sizing us up as soon as we came in. I should also mention there wasn't a single person in the building except for employees. She was cold, old and stuck up. She acted as if I was insane for asking to have my band reset, even inquiring if I wanted them to use all of the diamonds. As if I wanted them back in a baggie. She finally went and retrieved who I am assuming was Richard, the actual jeweler, who was very nice and helpful. He really was the only reason I left my band there. She then called my $500 watch "cute" as if to say it wasn't good enough to be in their store. She then wrote my name down, incorrectly even though I spelled it for her and kept wiping her snotty nose into a damp tissue. I showed my husband a necklace in the counter that I liked which she commented on but then didn't ask if I wanted to see it or offer to pull it out to show me. Luckily when I came back to pick up my band, she was talking to someone else so I didn't have to talk to her. Another woman, very nice helped me. I really hope she's related to the family somehow because I cannot imagine how she still works there. If they would like to stay in business they really should fire her. It was appalling how terrible she was. I guess when you're that old you think you can behave however you want. This is the worst jewelry store I have ever been to. My boyfriend and I came in to replace the battery in our watches. My boyfriend has a $200 watch that was dropped in the back by their tech when he was changing the battery. As a result, the glass face was chipped. When they gave it back to him, the timer on the watch was broken, and the face was crooked. When confronted, they said the watch was like that when we handed it over. After they realized we weren't going anywhere, they finally admitted to dropping it, but refused to compensate for a replacement. What a crock of sh**. At first glance, my watch was fine. But a week later, the battery was dead again. I was told that this jewelry store was a Memphis legacy, but they have obviously forgotten about customer service and quality. I will never return. Spend your money somewhere else that is more professional than this dump! read more

Well, my first time in there was an experience. I had a sweet white lady help me. She told me my price was 18.99 to get it sized or if I wanted it the same day it was only 25.00. Yes, she said or not also or and not even plus... I said only 25.00? She said yes!!! I then agreed, lets do it! I get it back around 4 o'clock and my price went from 25.00 plus tax to 50.00 I said, how this happen. What happened was she made a sale off me by scamming/ sleek words. She said it was 18.99 or pay same job for 25.00... What she was suppose to say is 18.99 plus an extra 25.00 for the same job. I thought I would return to this place and mabe they could understand and give me a deal due to my trickery saleswoman. I went in the store today to see if I could get 4 rings sized and the black lady would not give me no deal. Her words, I am not the owners so I will not give you a discount. She needs to retire and/or get a personality with a little more spunk to her step! I left the store and then called for the owner. He is not in, image that. I would like to get a deal due to I am bringing a lot of rings there and the white lady tricked me into paying more than dreamed of on a rings size. I am in sales and what you say influences the sale. So, yes telling me 25.00 is more likely going to get my business then her telling me 18.99 plus 25.00. I think the people and the owner should know how business is done here. They might not care, but I know honest lookers want to know. read more

Upset with Las Savell. I took a necklace in to have the chain repaired. When I returned to collect my necklace, I found that they had "cleaned" it to the point that the pendant was scratched and the rose gold vermeil was removed from the edges. Also, a small decorative bead was missing. I got no apology and was told cleaning could not have changed the color of the pendant's metal. Regardless, the pendant is a completely different color than it was when I dropped it off. If you have something of sentimental value in need of repair, please take it somewhere else. read more
