My wife and I went to Las Potrancas for our wedding anniversary, since the location on Wadsworth was a staple for our date nights when we lived in the neighborhood and we thought the Mariachi band on Tuesdays would be fun. We were not expecting some kind of five-star experience, just a cute night out, but the Mariachi band are the only reason this review is getting two stars instead of the lowest possible rating I could give it. Things started off well, we were seated quickly and the mariachi band was jamming for the first five minutes we walked in (then they went on break for the remainder of our meal). We ordered food and a coin margarita each. The margaritas were extremely watered down, to the point that it just kinda tasted like tequila flavored water with a lime squeezed in it. The real disaster was the food, however. Being vegetarian, I ordered the vegetable burrito and mentioned to the server that I was a vegetarian, which she confirmed back to me in Spanish. Cool. My wife got some shrimp tacos. Neither came out as described on the menu with my burrito missing the rice and beans that were supposed to accompany it; which was probably for the best, as my wife found a huge chunk of congealed beef in her rice side. I made it about halfway through my burrito (which was pretty disappointing already, being an unwrapped flavorless wet tortilla loosely draped around sauteed veggies) before noticing the same beef chunks on my plate as well. When we tried to get the attention of our server, she really didn't know how to fix the situation so she got the manager whose solution was to just repeat 'YOU WANT MORE BURRITO? MORE BURRITO?" as she took our food away. We refused because it had taken almost 20 minutes and we just wanted to continue our anniversary dinner elsewhere where, you know, we could eat the food. She did the bare minimum possible by taking the food off our check, so all told we only spent $20 on two (really, really disappointing) margaritas; I still left the server a 20%+ tip because I'm not a monster. By the time we were able to settle up our check and leave it was already after 8:30 which, as you know, makes it nearly impossible to get food anywhere in suburban North Denver. Welp, there goes our anniversary celebration; better luck next year. The next day I woke up to a really gross feeling in my digestive system, threw up in my car trying to get to work, called out sick and spent until 2PM revisiting the part of the burrito I managed to eat the night before, chunk by chunk in reverse. All in all, not worth it and I'm doubtful I will return to any of the Las Potrancas locations in the future. That's a shame. I liked the other location on Wadsworth a lot. read more

We had a problem twice with a burrito made wrong. The manager refused to take it off the bill. When we said we won't tip or come back... he said I don't care!!!! I told him we were 99% happy. He sad he didn't care. So I said we won't come back. He said I don't care. All over a $10 burrito. Our bill was over $100. I won't be back ever! A few orders were decent from this place and then came today... I ordered through grubhub and a mix up happened where they delivered my order to the wrong house. They, (through grubhub) took my money and when I tried to call to get my food OR money back, (simple task, no?) they could do neither. They said I had to go through grubhub, and even if that were true, they could have been more courteous. The manager was rude and didn't give a crap that I was having this issue with their restaurant. When I finally had enough I asked for the name of the owner to let them know of the shoddy service their people are giving out, he said it was against their policy to do so. Very disappointed in Las Potrancas. I have been a loyal customer for years. I ordered 3 dozen tamales for a party I attended today. I ordered them two days in advance. I specifically asked for them to be heated when I picked them up, as I would be going straight to a graduation party. I arrived at the specified pick up time and they weren't ready. After waiting 25 minutes and arriving late to the party, the tamales were frozen. They had stuck them in the microwave so they were hot on the outside and frozen inside. So unacceptable. I visit Las Potrancas on a weekly basis with my friends and family. The service and food quality has gone downhill. On Monday, I brought a friend here from out of town. It was a total disaster. To start, I ordered my food along with my kids and the waitress just walked away forgetting friend's order! We had to yell for her to come back. They never checkered on us again until they brought out the food. We sat there with empty drinks and chips. Alas, our queso appetizer came at the same time as our food! However, we still didn't have any chips for the queso!!! My daughter ordered beef and cheese nachos with nothing else on them. They came out with EVERYTHING on them - beans, tomatoes, jalapeños, sour cream etc! Sent them back as she would not touch them. They brought out it again, this time it had beans on it still! We had to send it back for a 3rd try, which they finally got right. I had placed a Togo order and we had to wait 40 minutes after we were done eating for it to be brought out. After I checked in it, it miraculously appeared! Oh wait! They didn't get the order right!!! They took it back to fix. At this point, we wanted it off our bill and didn't want to wait. Of course they pretended that they didn't speak English and didn't know what I was asking. They said hold on, and brought a new one out in a minute. At this point, I didn't trust anything they were giving us. I never got my money back and they did not apologize or offer to come anything. WAIT!!! It gets better! I've been trying to find a good Mexican restaurant in Arvada since moving here in April. Sadly I'm still searching. I tried Las Potrancas on the recommendation from a friend. I am sad to report it was a massive disappointment. All I can report on is the food, which was not good. Salsa and Green Chile were both super salty, like Pacific Ocean salty. It was awful. On top of that, the refried beans were so under cooked they were crunchy. The carnitas was tender and would have really been ok if it wasn't smothered in the same salt water sauce as the other sauces. Oh, and if they had remembered to include the tortillas that come with the carnitas. We also had enchiladas and rellenos, which were also tainted by the ever present salt of the sea. Nope. Sorry peeps, but never again. Don't make the same mistake I made. read more

This is my go-to local Restaurant for when I'm in the mood for authentic delicious fresh tasting Mexican food. The atmosphere is festive and lively, clean, bright, always hopping weekends with groups and families- spacious enough for all but perfect for two as well. Service is efficient and personable. Crispy chips and salsa arrive immediately. House special drinks each day. I had my favorite Margarita which included fresh lime, reposada tequila, orange liqueur, and agave. Delicious!. Varied menu with something for everyone. My crispy chili relleno was so fresh and came smothered with green chile, covered with melted cheese, topped with fresh tomatoes, lettuce, sour cream, onion and truly crunchy. Spicy! I ordered from Uber Eats tonight. I ordered Chicken Enchiladas, a Carnitas Torta and a taco. I called the restaurant and was put on hold for 5 minutes. I asked to have half green and half red on the enchiladas. There were hardly any beans and rice. It came without the green Chile and not enough red. The Torta bun was hard as a rock and everything was cold. The French fries were not only cold but greasy and inedible. The taco was soggy and inedible. Tacos bell would have been better. After waiting nearly 10 minutes just to be acknowledged, I spoke to the manager who was extremely rude. Just because I am working for a delivery service doesnt give you the right to treat me like dirt. Please show respect to drivers as they are helping provide income for you, especially in these times. Four men enter the restaurant. The menu says happy hour all day Sunday. (but there is fine print saying the hours can change when ever) No happy hour for us. STRIKE ONE. One of my friends ordered Menudo without any bread or extra stuff added to it. It came with a lot of (I think he said Garbanzo beans) He was kind to the waiter and said he would eat it anyways. The food was good except the Menudo eater said he has had better. It was separate checks and three of us paid with cash at the greeting desk. All three of us did not receive the correct change. (only paper, no coin at about 50 cent loss apiece. I complained and was given some coins that was still short of the correct amount) STRIKE TWO. We looked at the reviews and decided to check it out - The set up is a bit weird and the hostess could be friendlier but it's okay- We were sat and ordered horchata (sweet Mexican drink) ..Those were delicious but the server never offered us water..We had to ask for that. I ordered the chili rellenos and my boo ordered a burrito and relleno ..the food was brought out quick and was pretty good ...We ate and relaxed ... The restaurant was busy so it took forever to get a check ... The moral of this story - the decorations were a tad busy the staff was mostly pleasant and food was descent...I don't crave Mexican food too much but we will probably try again ! Ordered via Grubhub and the food came messed up- 3 tostados were in one container and it looked like the food was put sideways and the tostadas looked like tacos when they were received. The Mexican hamburgers looked the same - like they were put sideways. A big pile of food. Grubhub said they contacted restaurant and they said they won't credit and only issued a 10% off to use towards my next order thru Grubhub not the restaurant. Tried giving this place another chance today. My mom ordered the chicken tacos and immediately had to spit them out. Every taco shell had a strong chemical taste. I tried for my self and it was horrendous. Her throat has been burning since. I called the restaurant to let them know and they had nothing to say. He denied everything and didn't even want to give a refund. Arvada needs better Mexican restaurants! Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever experienced. My family ordered take out. When we went to pick it up the order was completely wrong. Supposedly it was fixed, so it was taken home. Once home we found they had still missed an entire entree. We called to let them know and they basically said we were lying because they "remembered packing it". So, we were told to bring everything back to show them. When we arrived back we were met with an absolutely disrespectful "manager" with a terrible attitude. There was no apology, and she refused to give us fresh food to replace everything that was now cold from sitting so long and having to be brought back. I am mainly writing this review to let other vegetarians know that this is a great option for us! The menu doesn't make a big deal about it, but you can easily customize a bunch of options here to be vegetarian. Just make sure to ask for the "cholesterol-free whole beans" (instead of refried) and double check that the green chile and red chile is vegetarian. It's interesting because on the menu there is one item that is called the vegetarian burrito and says it can be made with vegetarian green chile. But I asked the waitress and she said that all of the green chile is vegetarian. The food was pretty tasty. I got a combination with a guacamole tostada, bean burrito (smothered in green chile) and cheese enchilada. It also came with a side of whole beans and rice. THIS IS MY FAVORITE RESTAURANT. I have been coming to this location for YEARS and I haven't found better Mexican food. During covid, this location has been doing their best to take orders and quickly put out orders (and to-go margs, for cheap)!!! Although there are a few staff that are rude, and may have some trouble communicating, the large majority of staff are friendly and love to chat while taking orders.
