I had my first paella valenciana at Las Cuevas and it did not disappoint. The rice was crispy, the chicken and rabbit were juicy, the the seasonings were very fresh and herbaceous. I would definitely recommend coming for the paella! Service-wise the wait staff are very friendly though very busy during the lunch rush. I went here twice in my 10 day trip to Valencia! It was my first tapas/drink stop in the city and then again on the Tours in Valencia. I've sat inside and out - both huge seating selections - and both great experiences. They have a HUGE menu of tapas and drinks. The Tinto de Verano was delicious as was their dessert wines, but I'm ready to declare this place the winner of the single best tapa in the city. THE BEST TAPA IN VALENCIA was their fried brie squares topped with a little bit of salt and fruit jelly. SO good. I would eat them every day if I wouldn't gain 100 pounds. Keep it Comin'! This lively spot has all the best things about a smaller city like Valencia has to offer. Absolutely AMAZING TAPAS, wonderful selections of Spaniard wines (I always suggest local or Sherries from Jerez in Spain) and it is in the heart of the old Carmen area. I came here to spend "Fallas". This place is close to everything! The service was fast and very informative even if the Spaniard accent is a little rough on the "th"s my Dominican ears. The plates are perfect for sharing and of COURSE, as I live to eat, the lovely server reeled me in from the edge of food comatose and cut me off at 7 tapas. I was starving! It was two couples for dinner and we wanted to order two different Rice dishes. A paella and an arroz negro. The waiter told us we could only order one type of rice - Moronic policy. If it wasn't for the decent food and vibe, they'd get a 2 star. Good outdoor seating. The inside is a bit claustrophobic (hence las Cuevas). Some tapas sit out to choose from. We have basic Spanish so instead of googling the entire menu we chose from display. Most of it looked ok to good. Between two people we got 5 small things with idea getting more in mind. Filo pastries filled with Mediterranean veg or meats. Aubergine and cheese in scallop shells etc. they were all very sloppy and seemed microwaved instead of reheated in oven. Loads of bland sauce was poured over pastries with made them all soggy. I asked for additional salad and waitress said no what you've ordered is big, maybe later you can have it. I tried to insist as I wanted it to break up other food.she said no, maybe later. Lost in translation maybe. We ended up not getting anything else. Service was v slow and it wasn't busy. Venue was in a nice little square on its own. read more
