We ordered a michelada and a Cadillac margarita--both were bad. The michelada tasted watered down, and the Cadillac was just plain nasty. My fiancé ordered the chile verde and asked me to try it. I literally had to spit it out into a napkin. The flavor was that bad. We came with three other friends, and all of us agreed we would never return. For a Mexican restaurant, especially a chain, you'd expect flavorful, well-made food--but that was not the case at all. Very disappointed with this location in Turlock. Zero out of 10. I have seen so much traffic in and out for quite some time, so had this place on my "try it" list. The exterior looks nice, the lobby is pretty tasteful. So here are the pros: Service was good, chips, salsa and bean dip came out pretty quick. The bean dip is really good. The salsa is a little spicy and they don't have a milder option for spice intolerant folks like my wife. I enjoyed the salsa, she didn't. We ordered 2 chicken items, Garlic Chicken and diabla chicken. Both essentially the same item but with different sauces. The Garlic chicken was good for a bit, and then became pretty overpowering. The sauce is a butter sauce, that would probably be great on some pasta. The Diabla chicken was anything but spicy. The red sauce it was in was about as spicy as milk. The pickled jalapeño slices served on the plate were extremely spicy in comparison and they didn't have much heat to them. The service was much better than the food. What I ordered vs what I got... big disappointment. I ordered the Birria-QuesaTaco--you know, the one described as "four crunchy tortilla tacos with melty cheese and tender birria meat." Sounds amazing, right? Unfortunately, what I got was the total opposite. There wasn't a single crunch in sight--just soggy, burnt cheese stuck to the tortilla. The meat was okay, but the presentation and texture ruined it. For $17, I expected something closer to the menu photo, not a greasy, floppy mess. Chips and dip came out almost immediately, they also provide refried beans for dipping ( unfortunately made with pork I was told, I dont eat pork). The salsa for dipping the chips was good, which is always a good sign. I got the birria tacos plate which was good but it only comes with 4 tacos that's why I ordered the taquitos to have alittle extra to eat since the birria tacos didnt come with any sides. Still think this place is the best Mexican restaurant in Turlock. Ended up going in with my wife after shopping. We sat in a booth at the bar and was waited on by Dulce. She is the BEST! The best unique thing about this great restaurant is they give fresh refried beans with your chips and salsa. The Cadillac margaritas were very good for the price. The bests things on the menu was the mole dishes and the tres banditos entree. This comes with grilled chicken, skirt steak and garlic shrimp. It was fantastic and my new favorite. There was a time when I stopped visiting because there were many other better places in the area. My wife and son wanted to give it another try, so we made the trek. Sat in the bar area and our service was outstanding! Bean dip provided with chips and salsa was nice. I ordered the Los Tres Bandidos plate and it was excellent. My wife got the shrimp quesadilla. It came with a side of rice and beans, but the quesadilla itself was packed inside with lots bell peppers and onions. My son got his usual asada burrito. Overall, as mentioned prior, this place continues to be better than when it first opened. We go to the Manteca location all of the time and enjoy the chicken molcajete. It's usually delicious! We stopped here today after a long road trip on the way back and it was awful. It tasted like someone poured excessive amounts of lemon on it. We sent it back and let the waitress know we were not happy. The food was not good at all - the beans had a taste and texture that was for sure indicative of the beans not being made in the restaurant (tasted canned), the chicken had no flavor or salt, just intense boiled chicken taste and smell, and the asada taco tortillas were dipped heavy in oil that had no flavor and it was cold....so I had a pool of oil on my plate and made everything that much more unpleasant. Came here for a graduation, got a lot of different plates to try and share with the family I came with....left hungry. read more

The dish came out hot and it was good, but I wanna eat this with my tortillas which came out 10 minutes later so my cheese hardened. I asked the server for tortillas three times and finally had to walk up front to the hostess to ask again and it still took 10 minutes. When she came with my tortillas, she said here are two orders of tortillas. One is for your appetizer and the other is for your dinner that you ordered. I told her when I get my dinner my tortillas will be cold so can I please have my dinner tortillas with my dinner and my appetizer tortillas with my appetizer. She smiled and said if you want, I will reheat them when your dinner comes. The chorizo is spicy and good and I like this dish. I just wish the service was good, so I received everything on my table. I ordered iced tea. There was no sugar on the table. I asked server for some but it never came so I had to get up and take it from another table myself. The garlic shrimp dinner was not too bad. The rice was still somewhat crunchy in places and the shrimp was extremely salty and rubbery. It was served exactly like this, which was disappointing because this dish cost me $20. Don't order the guacamole! It does not even taste like avocados. They put so much stuff in it. You just taste vinegar flavor and not the avocado. I would go back just for this appetizer and will never expect good service. It was not busy. The server just didn't care in my opinion from what I could see. We were in the mood for good Mexican food while in Turlock and decided to stop in to this place. I read the reviews and saw a mixed variety, many good but it always scares me when I read about the poor service and horrible food. Still, we were adventurous and decided to try it for ourselves. We're very glad we did! First off, we were greeted by a young man, friendly, smiling and very gracious. As we went to our table I did not find anything to indicate the place was not being kept cleaned. Our own table and benches were clean and no signs of food items left from the previous customers. This man took our drink orders and shortly our salsa, bean dip and a generous amount of chips arrived. All items fresh and tasty. Our server, Roberto, arrived shortly afterwards and we found him to be friendly and answered all our questions to the various items on the menu. I ordered the chicken mole and my wife had the codfish tacos. Both items were absolutely delicious, hot and tasty. If I have to be critical, the codfish was probably frozen and not fresh, but the combination of ingredients served with the fish made this dish delicious (my wife's description!!). The chicken mole was the best I have had in this area; and I have eaten a lot of chicken mole from from places ranging from Manteca to now Turlock, and this restaurant serves the best. The cost for this meal, 2 Modello Negras included of course, $55.00, very reasonable for the meal. We have now made this establishment our favorite Mexican restaurant and can't wait to go back and try some other tasty dish. We ordered the molcajete with three meats and the salsa was not good at all and for the meat we only got chicken and steak. We also ordered micheladas and man was it bad and the shrimp wasn't good either. I also ordered one of the appetizer and it came with jalapeño poppers, chimichanga and taquitos and quesadillas, the quesadillas and the tomato was the only fresh thing made because the rest of the food items seems straight out of a box. This is American wanna be Mexican food. I wouldn't come back or ever recommend it. Sorry to say but I'd rather go to Taco Bell. They need to work on the menu and have pictures to have an idea what the plate looks like.
