I've been going to Javi's off and on for the past 6+ years... I have enjoyed dining here immensely! From the Owner/Manager Ricardo, the bar staff, wait staff and kitchen staff to deliver the same smile, consistently great food and superb service... in no particular order... Sandi, Anna, Janet, Jenifer, Ariceli, Julieta, Betcedes, etc. all make you feel welcome and appreciated! Kudos to you Ricardo for having a well trained and disciplined staff! Last time I I went to this establishment was probably 7 years ago and I swore I'd never go back. Recently met some friends there decided to give it another shot and was even more disappointed than the last time I went. The customer service was wonderful and the chips and salsa were great. The biggest issue for me is that everything on the menu was $16.99 or higher and when I realized this it threw up a flag for me. If everything on the menu is the same price what does that say to the customer? If I had to say there were way too many things to choose from and everything looked mediocre. I decided to go with something very simple wishing for the best. I got the asada plate and a michelada. The meat was so tough I literally could not chew it and my michelada being $8 dollars wasn't even 3/4 full of beer it had more miche than most micheladas. In conclusion minimum wage is going up but that doesn't mean you should have 10 people working and not even 7 customers in the establishment. Also I can see menu prices going up but why make them all the same price when the quality of food is garbage. You can't ask for more money if your food isn't worth even half of the price. I don't care if I lived in Hilmar and Javis was the only decent place in town I'd drive at least 30 minutes out of my way to get better food for a better bargain. On a Sunday night my tab for the asada plate and 2 red beers was $35 dollars and some change of course I left a good tip so for $41 dollars I left still hungry and very disappointed will not be going back and will not be recommending Javis to anyone. I could have bought a 6 pack at the liquor store and a taco truck burrito for about $15 dollars and would have been a whole lot happier. If your going to be a well known chain establishment and have multiple locations in the valley at least take pride in the food that you sell. read more

Solid Mexican restaurant with no frills. The staff is nice and friendly. The food is fresh but I felt under seasoned and bland but the salsas were good. I had a chicken taco salad which was good with very generous portions. I would dine here again but wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to eat here. read more

Was looking for a place to eat good food and still be in a safe environment (social distancing) alongside the fact it's been scorching temp-wise so I was skeptical of a cool enough outdoor eating space where I wouldn't be sweating buckets & could enjoy myself visiting over a meal. Let me tell you this was A M A Z I N G!!!! Great food, both my girlfriend and I had enchiladas, & it was as good as some of the best I have had here in the valley!!! Staff was attentive and kind & seating was temporary set up under a tent but surprisingly cool and shaded and was able to eat and visit over lunch for 1.5hrs without feeling rushed. Been here many times for dinner and it can be hit or miss. Their Salsa Verde is not very flavorful at all and I usually end up using their hot salsa that comes with the chips on my tacos. Service is usually pretty good and the bar area is nice and there are a lot of TV's. There are usually a lot of people there on Saturdays as it is the only bar in town with a DJ, so if you want to people watch, and you happen to find yourself in Hilmar you know where to go. read more

I've been to Javi's numerous times, and it's been really good. The food is authentic, and flavorful. Any time I go to a Mexican restaurant I make sure I try their Carnitas it's my personal measuring stick when it comes to Mexican Resturants. Javi's ranks right up there. The Staff is pretty nice, they promptly bring you refills on your chips, Salsa, and refreshments. When ordering plates, Carnitas, or Fajitas, any plate that comes with tortillas. Make note you only get 3 corn, or 2 flour tortillas. That's it. You can probably get more for a fee, but that's the normal unrequested amount you get. I think it's skimpy but that's just my opinion. Other than that, I haven't had a bad experience yet. read more

Decided to give them a try last night. For the price food wasn't very impressive and the service was so slow. The waitress came to the table right away and took our beverage order but didn't bring menus. About 20 minutes later we finally got our beverages and menus. Then on top of that there was a table with two women , who's kids were at another table. The kids were quiet but the women were drunk, really loud, cursing and at one point one of them fell out of the booth onto the floor. Every table in the place was watching them but management said nothing to them. Curious to know if they were allowed to drive with kids in the car. We spent almost $87 for 3 meals, so so food and a drunken show. We will not be back. read more

The handful of times that I've been here, the food was awesome. The burritos are stuffed with a ton of meat and the fajitas are great too, but the nachos are the best things on the menu. This restaurant has very generous portions and the staff is very friendly. The service, however, can be a bit on the slow side. If you like Mexican food, this is the only Mexican restaurant in town. Love this place! My favorite Mexican food restaurant when I am in town. I moved from the area out to Virginia and every time I am home for a holiday I ask my family to go with my to Javi's. My parents get their "senior special" which is a 1,2, or 3 item combo plate. Very decent prices. We all love their carnitas!! Delicious. I typically have their carnitas tostada. Sometimes the place is empty but don't let that deter you. Last time the food came out a little slow but our waitress was very attentive, constantly refilled our chips and salsa and even gave us a free dessert and apologized about the wait. Love love love. I ate at Javi's in Hilmar today. It has been a few years since I ate there. It use to be my favorite Mexican Restaurant. However today's experience was horrible. My lemonade was watered down, my carne asada burrito was tasteless. I ask for extra green sauce to poor over the burrito in hopes it would give it more flavor but no such luck. The green sauce was really thin and tasteless. The carne asada was really fatty. My mom asked for her tamales dry and they came out soaked in sauce. I told the waitress and all she said was that's right. No apology, no offering to bring her another one. My mom ate the tamale the way it was. And I agree with the review that the waitresses hide behind the fish tank. Ohh and the chips have changed too or they are no longer serving fresh chips. Unless I have no other choice in the matter I will not be going back. read more

The food didnt have any flavor. The chicken and the shredded beef tasted like it was boiled with no seasoning. It wasnt busy, my waitress stood at the table staring at me while I had my face in the menu trying to read the new additions on the menu. My husbands fajita was all veggies hardly any steak. The steak that he did find tasted like it was boiled. After dinner the waitresses searched all over for our check finally she found it. I will not be returning. The visit before this, the same location I ordered fried ice cream, the ice cream was freezer burned but they served it anyways. That same visit my husband had a staple in his food. read more

The meats on some the dishes lack flavor compared to other Mexican Restaurants that I've gone Good service and fajitas are the only reason for 2 stars. The dishes are over priced however since it's the only place you can get Mexican in town it is the place to go to satisfy cravings. If I can I prefer to go to Villa's in Livingston. read more

This restaurant is good to real good. The portions are plentiful and the food itself is freshly made. I get the chicken ala mexicana and it is my favorite dish there. My wife has the chicken burrito supreme. We Aleta have a great experience at this restaurant. well i think this is the only mexican place in this town- we had dome business to do in Hilmar and decided to eat local. well the service not that great- the waitresses hide behind the fishtank (or whatever it was )so there was a few times we had to flag them down to order food get water refills etc. good portions but the food is not of great quality.
