This is the best auto repair place I've found in 30 years in California. It was recommended by a friend, a woman, which means a lot because most of us know how an average woman usually gets treated in auto repair-land; patronized if not ignored, and wary of being taken advantage of in price. I felt none of this on my first visit and that, plus the excellent, timely work, have kept me going back. What works great for me is that the lead mechanic will keep me updated by text, so I'm not playing phone tag. Also, if you are able to schedule your work ahead, there is sometimes a loaner car available. This is an incredible benefit because there's no such thing as a "rent a wreck" anymore and, personally, I can't afford the added cost of a rental to my repair work! They also have a very useful, simple and effective drop-off system, so I can bring my car at night for them to work on in the morning. Highly recommended, all the way around. read more

I thought there was something wrong with my AC but my kids must have just hit a button and turned something off and they corrected it. So I only got charged for the oil change. Worst choice for a repair facility in the south bay. I used them for a pre purchase inspection since I am from out of the area, and was floored by a $5k+ report of needs. How could a vehicle this clean and this low of miles be this bad? I was suspicious, so I chose another shop nearby to do an inspection as well, and they came back with nothing close to that! I feel like Larson Auto is suffering financially, and are trying to retire off of everyone who comes in. I would avoid this place like the plague. read more

I always have excellent service as they are honest and always accommodating! They take pictures of the part to explain what needs to be repaired or what's not ready to be repaired. It's having a trust worthy car doctor! I always refer him! For example, my 2014 Honda CRV was making a grinding noise for years when starting the car and no mechanic could figure it out and Joe knew that I would have a good chance to take it to the dealership as he said it should have been a recall. He could've charged me but instead he said to have the dealership to check it out and sure enough, it cost $150 from the dealership instead of $1,200! Complete con-artists Came in for a simple job, my headlights and taillights in my car got disconnected from the battery and wouldn't turn on. Nothing was broken (according to my fix'd cube that runs diagnostics on your car for you) I even provided new bulbs for them to replace the old ones. Not only did I get charged about 400$ for it, but they left my driver side tail light compartment completely open AND kept the screws keeping it in place. They also were CONSTANTLY texting me about how they "needed to do more work for x price" WHEN THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE WRONG WITH MY CAR. On top of that, they quoted my mom 4000$ for a new water pump, which is beyond ludacris. Their new owner is scum. When Doug Roach owned this place it was great. I needed a new water pump/timing belt, as well as, lower and front control arm bushing assemblies on my VW Passat. Joe looked at my car and realized he did not have a tool to fix the timing belt. He made the effort to find a tool with the VW repair shop close by. After speaking with the mechanics there he decided that I would be better served if I had them do the water pump/timing belt. I was very pleased that he was honest enough to say he thought that they would do a better job. I did have the VW shop do the job and was happy with their work. My VW Beetle electric window regulator was broken, and the VW dealer quoted me $2200 for the repair. After recovering from the shock, I searched online for a more reasonable mechanic. Repairpal.com suggested Larson Auto Repair. I talked with Joe (owner) and he told me to bring my car over for a no-cost diagnostic (VW dealer charged me $150). He said that he can do the repair for half the price. True to his word, the repair was completed a day later. I am very impressed with Joe's friendliness and professionalism. My driver's side window was broken on my older car. Larson's fixed it the next day and charged me one half of what an auto glass shop would have charged me. I have been going to Joe for the last 2 years. I first went in because my battery kept dying even after getting it replaced. Joe and his team looked at it multiple times not stopping until he found the problem(a Bluetooth issue a problem that was found for the make and model of my car for that year) . Great mechanic! I HATE auto shops of any type....especially dealer service departments. I have been taken advantage of and had some major battles with dealers. I have also paid big buck to other mechanics (4k) who never did fix the problem. Larson always fixes the problem and had what I believe are reasonable prices. They do all my oil changes and tune ups and I have never had a problem. I usually leave there surprised at how little I actually had to pay. The office runs efficiently and yes, it is a mom and pop shop. But what matters is that my cars get repaired and I'm not broke. I had a crazy dealer quote me $2200 for something and Larson did it for $400. I hate mechanics, I want cars that run and I don't want to go broke. Go to this place. read more

A+ My Subaru WRX had a bad 02 sensor. I brought my WRX into the shop. He fixed the 02 sensor and brought up a couple other things that could wait. (oil change, air filter, ect) After taking my car into Larson Auto Repair, SHE PURRRRED! I had no more lag on the throttle, ride was smoother then ever. He made my car how she was supposed to be. I was in and out the same day. The repairs only took a couple hours. I was quoted higher rates at other shops in the area. I got the best deal at Larson Automotive and he truly fixed her up! Honest and fair. Not cheap but fair. I have been taking my car here for years. This is the second time that they could have easily "made up" some expensive problem, but instead were honest about the simple fix. I took my car to Mike several years ago, I had a knocking in my rear end when making a sharp turn (like into a drive way). He could have easily said it was this, that or the other thing, and I would have happily paid top dollar to get my little Honda back into tip top shape. The actual problem: The mag light I had in my spare tire cavity had come loose from where I had wedged it and was rolling around with those sharp turns. No charge. What a great guy! I had a regular maintenance service done a couple months ago and I had some belts replaced. My AC belt started squealing and I noticed a rattle in my front end so I brought it back in. Again, they could have said it was anything and I would have happily paid to get my little gal back into perfect working order. The actual problem: a cable had come loose from it's mounting bracket and was rattling. No charge for the belt adjustment or the fix. I would never call this shop cheap, but they are fair and honest. I find them to be reasonable and very communicative. A family business that I have, and will continue, to recommend to my own friends and family. read more

I live near Milpitas, but make the drive over to Larson Auto Repair in Campbell, because of the new owner, Joe. Joe has been working on my car for 3 years now, and I followed him over to Larson. My car was towed to Joe in 2014 after breaking down on the freeway. He went the extra mile to fix the problem and was honest with me. If you don't work on cars you never really know if someone is taking advantage of you or not. That's why I'm so grateful to find a professional mechanic, that is a straight shooter, I trust! And, I should add, I have 2004 Chrysler Sebring with 130K miles on it, that is running great, which is a testament to his mechanical abilities. read more

I am not sure about all these rave reviews... they are old; maybe Mike has changed in the last year or so? Maybe they are friends? All I can tell you is what happened to me recently and how I will NEVER return to this auto shop. When my key got stuck in the ignition cylinder of my car (in acc position), I had it towed here at the suggestion of the tow truck driver. My thought was replace the cylinder, problem solved... videos on how to do this for my particular car on youtube. I hesitated, I mean there it is... key stuck in ignition cylinder; remove part... replace part... problem solved. I told Mike I was weary of mechanics having been ripped off before. I was assured this cost would ultimately go towards the work done on my car. Fair enough so I agreed. An hour later, "inspection" completed, Mike quoted me $550 not including taxes. $200 in parts. 2.5hrs of labor. I questioned all of this and was told... 1) There are no after-market parts for this. It would have to be manufacturer parts only. Not true. 2) They would probably have to rip apart the steering column. Really?(please see above video on youtube) 3) They would have to get a fork lift to bring my car into the garage. Not making this up people. Maybe Mike has a bad back?... but me and the tow truck guy had no trouble pushing the car. I steered, he pushed. Needless to say I refused the work and decided to take my car elsewhere. Still deserving of 1 star. Why? Well, Sharon at the front desk was pleasant. And in the end I wasn't made to pay for the "inspection," which I'm pretty sure consisted of Mike confirming that indeed my key was stuck... good job. When I got my car towed away from there another tow truck driver mentioned again how great Mike was. I even gave him Mike's quote... he winced, yet still insisted on what a great guy he is. So maybe if you don't question Mike you get service for fair prices? Or maybe Mike is just really nice when he takes your money? Not sure. This is a lot to say for a review, sorry. Bottom line: when a mechanic makes things more complicated/expensive then they should be, get a new mechanic. read more

I'm extremely impressed! Everyone was very polite and more than accommodating. I explained that I was in need of an urgent repair, and they fit me in to a very busy schedule right on the spot! I had suspected a loose serpentine belt was causing my engine to idle down when accelerating, but instead of just tightening the belt, they went one step further with investigating the root of the cause and found the bolt holding the alternator in place was sheared off and coming loose! Timely repair that was fairly priced, very knowledgeable, and willing to go the extra step to get the job done right the first time. I first heard about Larson's from a AAA driver from Dicks Automotive. I always ask them if i have the chance, and I had a starter going out. They know who people take their cars to, and they know who has the most/best repeat customers. He wasn't wrong. Larson's is a great shop. I just took me car there for the third time; this time to check noisy brakes. Anyone else would have tried to sell me a brake job; Mike check it out, found some minor stuff needing attention, and took care of it. Just labor, and that was reasonable. It also seems to me that some little rattles have gone away too, like the good fairys blessed my car or something. I would recommend Mike to anyone in the Campbell/Los Gatos, Saratoga area. He's right across the street from Dicks Automotive, so a AAA tow is very convenient, and there is an Enterprise RentaCar just around the corner. Mike gets 5 stars from me. read more
