** 5/5 Stars** I finally decided to visit the dentist after my wife insisted--it had been a long time since my last dental appointment. I was honestly a little nervous walking in, but the staff immediately made me feel welcome and comfortable. My initial exam was quick and thorough, and my first regular cleaning was surprisingly fast, easy, and completely painless. Since it had been so long, I also needed a deep cleaning. I expected it to be uncomfortable, but I couldn't have been more wrong. The dentist was exceptional--very skilled, gentle, and professional. She took her time, explained everything, and completed both deep cleaning appointments with virtually **no pain or discomfort**. I was impressed by how smooth the entire experience was. Everyone in the office was friendly, professional, and made each visit stress-free. I still have a few remaining treatments to complete, and I will definitely be coming back. Since moving to La Mesa 9 years ago I have been switching out providers to those closer to home. Dr. Pawl came highly recommended and I can see why. I have been a patient for a few years now and he is the best dentist I've ever had - and that is saying a lot as I have gone through quite a few dentists in my 52 years. This will be long, but if you're in the market for a new dentist, please read! The entire staff and experience, from beginning to end, will far exceed ANY other dental visit you've ever had. I was searching for a new dentist and found Dr Pawl's office through a Facebook group I'm in so I gave them a call. I initially spoke to Christy (who is an angel and always works with my schedule) because she's typically the one that answers the phone because she's in charge of scheduling appointments. I told her of my previous dental trauma and severe anxiety when it comes to sitting in that chair. She was SO sweet and warm and connected me with Stephanie. Stephanie, the office manager, could not have been more compassionate and understanding and assured me that I was now going to be in good hands. I could honestly feel her genuine care through the phone. My first appointment rolls around and I get to meet Linda, DA, who seriously took the best care of me!! Her caregiving abilities shine through and it felt like a family member was there with me. She legitimately held my hand for part of it haha. I cannot say enough amazing things about this woman. She is the person you want sitting next to you if you have dental anxiety! Brittany is the dental hygienist and she gave me the most gentle cleaning! She was patient with me and kept me comfortable the whole time. And of course, Dr Pawl. He instantly becomes your friend and will have you laughing before he even starts the treatment. I am SO picky about who I allow to touch my teeth and I would 100%, genuinely and honestly, refer everyone I know to this man. I always have questions about my teeth and that would really annoy my previous dentists, but Dr Pawl is sooo patient with me and sits and actually listens to what I have to say and happily explains the why/what/how/when of my treatment plan. My teeth are in better shape now than they have been in a very long time. Well I had a wonderful fun time the other day. Oh this is a review for a dentist office? Yes! Can you imagine! I have been to my share of dentists and many that were not great. Some horror stories in fact. But Dr. Pawl and his staff are amazing, he takes his time to explain what is happening and options, never rushing. In fact the whole office is superb, they all make me feel very comfortable and almost part of the family.  How about I had a procedure done for two crowns and there was literally NO PAIN.  Did you read that right? Dr. Pawl & his team are amazing! I recently cut the inside of my mouth in my sleep, which led to a cankersore that lasted over a week. I was barely able to eat or talk. I found Dr. Pawl's office after searching for laser cankersore treatments in San Diego and from the start, their office stood out. First, when Stephanie took my call, she very patiently explained the entire process to me so that I could decide whether or not this was something I would want to try. She told me that the laser would not need to touch my (very painful) cheek at all, and that the treatment included a follow-up session the next day at no cost. The fact that she was taking the time to describe this process to me attests to how much she, and the entire office, care about their patients. Dr. Pawl did my treatments, and though I was extremely nervous, his jokes helped me relax. I had not slept well for an entire week, waking up in the middle of every night with pain. After that second treatment, I was finally able to sleep through the night! It's honestly worth every penny. I highly recommend Dr. Pawl and his team. My wife searched and searched for a DMD that could service our family's dental needs; She found Dr Pawl. She said she would be the "test subject" and let us all know how it goes. After her appt, she gave us the thumbs up and we all started going. I love the fact that he is honest, very knowledgeable, and can joke around. PLEASE READ ENTIRE THING. I DON'T WANT THIS HAPPENING TO ANYONE ELSE. If I could give zero stars, I would. My husband knew this dentist so we decided to try him out. Dr Pawl did recommend me eventually getting Invisalign, which I am still going to do. But before you can do so, you have to be cavity free. According to him, my right and left side needed to be worked on so I went ahead and did my right side first. During this time, my family went to Dr Pawl as well and that's where the issues started. According to him my nephew had 7 cavities even though 6 months prior he had zero. He did a lot of work on my parents and even though their insurance ended up paying for more services than we initially thought, instead of reimbursing my mom since she overpaid, they just kept the money and never told her. They eventually refunded her because she looked into it and demanded they give her money back. ---- Fast forward to last night, I went to a new dentist to start my Invisalign journey. In the back of my mind I figured I still had to do a bunch of work on my left side since that's what Dr Pawl had said, but much to my surprise the dentist said my mouth looked great and no work would be needed prior to starting Invisalign. INTERESTING. Clearly Dr Pawls office isn't not an honest one and they just try to get as much out of you as they possibly can. I regret having my entire family go to him and I hope you think twice before going there. It's just not ok. read more

For my entire life I have DESPISED going to the dentist....like I avoided it for 5 years despised.... I heard about Dr. Pawl through my boss and decided it was beyond time to go in and have a cleaning and once over. My first visit there was amazing, I'd never felt so at ease in a dentist's office...didn't even think that was possible! The entire staff is amazing! April is a great hygenist and his front staff are on top of it (which I appreciate since I manage a doctor's office too). This is going to be a long review so please beat with me. Before I became a patient of Dr. Pawl, I was going to a dentist in Santee for 10 plus years. In February of 2019, I found out that my old bridge needed to be replaced, and my previous dentist initiated a project that turned out to be a nightmare. The bridge didn't fit well, and mind you he tried twice, but both bridges were bad. I found out about Dr. Pawl thru a friend, and this friend of mine was telling me how gentle Dr. Pawl is. He even fell asleep during the treatment. I was stunned because of my previous experience with my ex-dentist. It's unheard of for someone to fall asleep during a treatment. I was so frustrated with my ill fitting bridge when I decided to give Dr. Pawl a call. The pandemic was starting to get real bad, but I heard from Stephanie (office manager) a few days later. I told her about my problem, she scheduled me to see Dr. Pawl, and sure enough, he agreed that my bridge doesn't fit well. Stephanie and Dr. Pawl are both very kind, patient, and compassionate people. They helped me so much and answered all my concerns. Stephanie goes above and beyond to help me, and Dr. Pawl is thorough and explains things in a very detailed manner--plus he is hilarious (a bonus), which I appreciate very much. My whole family transferred to Dr. Pawl, and my husband and daughter couldn't agree more on how amazing everyone is. Linda and Brittney are both so professional and very kind as well. I'm beyond grateful to my friend for referring Dr. Pawl to me. If you are in search of a great dentist and staff, look no further than his office. read more

Updating my previous review... My daughter finally had the work done on her teeth after several years of braces, x-rays, impressions and consultations with dentists, orthodontists and of course, Dr. Pawl. He did an outstanding job and her smile is even more beautiful than before! Today was a follow up visit. We arrived a few minutes before her scheduled appointment time and checked in. I mentioned before that his staff is great. Stephanie and Christy at the front desk always greet us like we are family. After a couple of minutes in the waiting room, we are told that Dr. Pawl is running a little behind. Stephanie offers my wife, daughter and I each a Starbucks gift card to go grab a treat and says she will call us when the Dr. is ready. Wow, unheard of customer service! I have been going to Dr. Pawl now for almost one year. I can assure you that Dr. Pawl is one of the best dentists in San Diego. I am a CHICKEN when it comes to dental work. Nothing is more terrifying to me and Dr. Pawl has helped me through all of my anxiety. He is warm and friendly and has the best chair-side manner taking his time to walk me through any fears I have. He is up to date on all procedures and you can tell he is a truly caring individual. Everyone in his office is very easy and great to work with. Since a traumatic dental experience in my adolescence, I have had extreme anxiety about the dentist. Most dentists condescendingly shook their head at me when I told them my fear kept me away for years, and never did their "bedside manner" indicate any concern for my anxiety. Not only did Dr. Pawl and his staff acknowledge the strength I had for coming in despite my anxiety, but they also provided me with the most caring, friendly dental experience I have ever had. The hygienist was very gentle, which is a first for me, and my fillings were about as quick and easy as fillings can get. Dr. Pawl spent the extra few minutes to slowly inject the novocaine to prevent unnecessary discomfort, and I honestly have never had such painless shots! The best dental experience of my life! Dr. Pawl and his awesome staff, Stephanie, Kristie and Brittany are by far the best in their field. I was referred to Dr Pawl by a family member a couple of years ago. I was pretty terrified of dentists but Dr. Pawl and his Super Girls put me at ease. I needed a lot of restorative and cosmetic work done and thanks to Stephanie working with my insurance company she got it done! The two stars are for the front office staff. I was really hoping that Dr. Pawl was the right office for me and my family. I have a family of 5 so we go to the dentist frequently and need an office that is on top of billing and customer service. They have up to date equipment and Dr. Pawl has a joyful personality. The big problem with this office is his front desk staff. My first complaint is that they nickel and dime you. I understand they are in the business to make money so that didn't bother me as much. I was mainly unhappy because they are not organized and have unpleasant personalities. The first time they were rude I thought oh well maybe she was having a bad day. When I called in and had questions it felt like I was bothering them. I sure this office works for other people but this was just not the right one for me. read more

I can't believe my luck to have found such an amazing dentist office. My son had a huge canker sore and refuses to eat or brush his teeth for days. My dentist had mentioned a laser they can use to help heal the sore quickly but when I called them they couldn't see him till Monday, which was 4 days away. I googled canker sore lasers in San Diego and found Dr Pawl. Stephanie at the front was so compassionate, even though the offices were closing she made accommodations to see my son even though we were 20 minutes away. When we got there, everyone was so nice and courteous. The office was kid friendly. Stephanie is the sweetest, kindest person and made sure I knew exactly what was going to happen with the laser treatment. My son who wouldn't let me look at his mouth for days did great and it instantly felt better. I don't care that they are not in my neighborhood, I am making the switch. read more

Larry Pawl and his staff are the best! I get cold sores and they have this amazing lazer treatment you can get done that reduces the healing time by half. For some, it reduces the frequency, and some have even reported they stop getting them! I love Dr. Pawl and his staff! My coworker recommended this dentist and I am so glad she did. The atmosphere is very friendly and courteous, when you walk in you feel that Christi and Stephanie are genuinely happy to see you. I had a crown put in earlier this year, although there was some scheduling issues (my fault) they were able to work with me and make sure my crown fit correctly and that I was happy with the results. Dr. Pawl went the extra mile and I really appreciate it. Pricing was great too, they told me upfront how much the procedures would cost, accept Flex plan, offer early payment discounts and worked with Dental insurance, although my insurance is not the best they were still able to work with me to get my claim paid thru my insurance. After both my husband and I went for an exam and cleaning, we were so happy that they are the nearest dentist!!! Stephanie, the office manager, is one of the most friendly people you will ever meet! One of the simplest things that shows how great they are is when I had a filling that was done by them and a year later some minute decay was found in the same area. Dr. Pawl redid the filling for free! I have recommended Dr. Pawl to my family (including kids),which is the highest compliment I can give. What was a matter of convenience is now a matter of choice. This dental office is amazing! The staff is very friendly and if it's the first time they've seen you, they greet you with a hand-shake. I've never experienced that in any type of medical/dental office. Made me feel very welcomed. I had to get some deep-cleaning done and then a couple of fillings (it's been a few years). I've had deep-cleaning done before and it hurt like a b****, so I wasn't looking foward to thess appointments. The hygenist was AWESOME! The deep-cleaning didn't hurt at all (I think they used warm water while they did it, which was nice) and when Dr. Pawl gave me the numbing shot, I had no idea that the needle ever pricked me until I started to feel numb on a part of my gum.
