Dr Frank Duran is amazing at what he does! I had been suffering from some tooth ache and I came to Tower Dentistry to have it checked out and found out that I was in need of a Root Canal, ouch. This pain was so horrible and I am so thankful I was able to have been able to have it scheduled for a couple weeks later. After being so anxious and reading about the process online, I was finally able to see Dr Duran again and let me tell you it was a really painless. Before he started the process of the root canal he had given me all the steps he was going to take, at first he put a little numbing gel on my gums then gave me a shot that numbed the right side (where the tooth pain was) after that I felt nothing, I didn't need any additional numbing shots and everything else was seriously a cake walk. After an hour the whole ordeal was completed, I listened to podcast while Dr Duran took out the dead nerve and filled my tooth. Honestly Dr Duran is an the tooth fairy, he made the root canal look super effortless and was really kind throughout the process. If you need a good dentist I would highly suggest checking out Dr. Duran he does wonders and is a stand up man! I can say after a week out of from the root canal I am feeling so much more happy to being able to eat regularly again! Thank you Dr Duran! read more

I have been going to Tower Dentistry for about six years now and this review is so long overdue! I cannot be more pleased with my experience with Tower Dentistry. The front desk coordinators are organized, wonderful communicators, and know all the patients by name! I have never had to wait over five minutes before being seen. My dentist is Dr. Paul Pierce, DDS and he is extremely knowledgeable and good at what he does. I get regular teeth cleanings from Dental Hygienist Lindsay who will always exceed your expectations. Since I was a child, I have had anxiety when it comes to going to the dentist. Particularly, I have horrible gag reflexes that make the experience unpleasant. However, not only is Lindsay the most compassionate dental hygienist I have ever had (not making me feel bad when we need to take a break) but she goes out of her way to help me through the process by putting salt under my tongue. Furthermore, dental hygienist Lindsay is credited for getting my teeth in the best condition they have ever been. Her recommendations on floss, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc. have made a tremendous difference in the health of my teeth and gums. I am so thankful that she always takes the time to share her expert advice. I always know I am in good hands at Tower Dentistry. Highly recommend! read more

He is extremely knowledgeable and experienced, using state-of-the-art dentistry techniques and technology. His "bedside" manner immediately puts you at ease. I heard from Tower Dentistry by one of my colleagues and she recommended the place. I went to get my crown done and I was impressed by the facility and the staff. The area is not the nicest as compared to La Jolla or other places but never judge a book by its cover. From the inside the office has high-end equipment and after I asked around, it is one of the few places that they do a general consultation and they placed the crown in the same day, instead of having to wait 2 weeks until the crown comes back from the lab. As a matter of fact, they have a machine that process the crown within 5 minutes and it is very accurate, probably the most accurate measure that you will get. Dr. Melgosa took care of me and did a great job with the crown and I actually went back to work after my appointment not feeling even a little bit of pain. Prices are reasonable compared to other places and the service you get is worth the money you pay. read more

He made me feel extremely confident and comfortable. But most importantly, I left pain free even after having a root canal. Thanks Dr Duran. I cannot say enough kind things about Dr. Raschke and the dental hygienists at Tower. I like them so much that I pay for all of their services out-of-pocket. I had been going to see Dr. Raschke for a while when my company switched insurance, leaving him out of my new network. I tried to find an in-network dentist that I liked, but wound up in a handful of sketchy and horrible experiences. Other dentists were telling me I needed a bunch of fillings and all kinds of special sealants. I went back to Dr. Raschke for a second opinion, and he told me I had one weak spot that might become a cavity but did not yet need any fillings. Since then, I've been paying out-of-pocket to see Dr. Raschke. And it's worth every penny. He's the nicest, kindest, and most honest dentist I've ever encountered. Went to Tower Dentistry to get two crowns put on To give you a little background, I'm not comfortable in dentist offices and had my share of experiences... The Dentist Office The office is really nice and the staff is very friendly and welcoming. I then got installed in a private room, with very High Tech equipment, from a comfortable chair, a screen with Direct TV and a remote in my hand so I can occupy my mind during the procedure. Dr Melgosa Dr Melgosa then proceeded to the installation of my crowns, after numbing the area he told me that if I felt anything to raise my left hand so he could too off the local anesthesia. Didn't even need that as I felt no pain. He was very precise on the work he performed while explaining every step of the process on what he was doing. Crown Technology Now, the crowns were ready to get built. I already had seven of them in my mouth and had to get temporaries - wait two weeks, and get my permanent ones... NOT HERE, with there CEREC machine, Dr Melgosa took some 3d images of my mouth, and then finalized the design on a computer in the room, I could see everything he was doing, and that was really advanced. The he clicked on a button, and my crown was getting machines out of ceramic in an adjacent office. I left that same day with my permanent crowns!!! ONE VISIT that is what was needed. Definitely recommend Dr Melgosa and Tower dentistry. read more

It had been years since I had had any dental work done, due to being terrified from bad dental work in my childhood and past. I also hadn't had dental insurance in the past as well. I had a consultation in June with Dr. Velton and he went through his thorough path of what we need to do to fix my dental issues. After deep cleaning sessions, 3 root canals and 5 crowns later, never did I go through any sort of pain during the procedure and even days after. Dr. Velton has all the newest up to date tools and gadgets to make the process of your procedure pain free and quick. I can't say enough good things about this place but lets start from the beginning. Appointment set up was a breeze. Gal on the phone was very welcoming even helped me with questions about insurance coverage. The facility is very clean and the ENTIRE staff is wonderful to be around, the xray tech was quick, the doctor very warm and welcoming and the hygienist was friendly and fast. They give you the option to watch TV while you are getting a cleaning which is pretty awesome. They don't try to sell you a bunch of things, they just give you the facts about what you have going on in your mouth and let you choose what you want to do. I have 6 kids and have seen many pediatric dentists over the years, but Dr. Raschke is the best by far, for both myself and my kids. Went to Tower after purchasing a Groupon. The office was very nice and the cleaning I received was outstanding. HOWEVER, the dentist told me that I had four teeth that needed crowns at $1,200 a piece for a total of $4,800. The crowns would mean grinding my teeth down and adding porcelain veneers. My previous dentist in Virginia had told me that I had a some old fillings that would need to be replaced over time. Thank goodness I decided to get a second opinion! Several people told me to go Dr. Keeney on Park Blvd. Dr. Keeney said I needed to have two fillings replaced. Total cost was $700 including the initial exam, cleaning and two replacement fillings. read more

If I was writing this review solely about the dentists and hygienists at Tower Dentistry, I would give them 5 stars...hands down. Dr. Pierce and Dr. Raschke are awesome! However, after having several issues with the front desk/billing people, I've decided not to return. One issue I had was when my insurance changed from a PPO to an HMO. I was unaware that this office does not take HMOs, so when I asked if they took my new insurance I only said the company name and they said yes. I then handed them my new card and went in for my cleaning. When I came back out, I was told that they did not accept my new insurance because they don't accept HMOs (and that I would still have to pay for services performed out of pocket). Now, I understand that mistakes happen but my card said HMO in big letters. How did they miss that? Another time my insurance changed and I made sure to get a PPO that was covered by their office because I really liked the dentists there and wanted to keep going despite the issues I had. I checked the insurance company's site and several of the dentists at Tower were listed as accepting the insurance. When I went in for my appointment I was told that my insurance didn't cover even a basic cleaning for 6 months or a year (something crazy like that) even though I was pretty sure it did. I freaked out and called my insurance because I felt like I was getting cheated. My insurance confirmed that they do cover those basic services and that the only reason they wouldn't be covered is if I went out of network. So I called Tower back and explained the out of network thing and the woman says something like "yeah, you're out of network". First of all, I wasn't out of network. And second, even if I was, why would you tell me my insurance doesn't cover something as opposed to saying I'm out of network so my cost is higher?? I explained that several dentists were listed as taking my insurance and she said the site must be wrong and they couldn't do anything about it to get it updated. So I basically chose an insurance company specifically so I could go to Tower only to find out I couldn't actually go there. I realize that was long and possibly confusing (and this isn't even all that happened!), but the point is if you don't want to deal with billing hassles and being mislead, you should probably skip over Tower. It's a sad thing since the dentists are so great, but for me, I just don't think it's worth the headache. read more

My son (24) and I just went to Tower Dentistry with a "Groupon" I purchased for Cleaning / Xrays and exam. I could tell Dr. Brett Melgosa was upselling everything and I did not get a cleaning as groupon stated, only a polish. He told me I should have a deep cleaning and would need to numb my whole mouth... PASS! I've always gotten regular check ups and floss everyday and have never needed a "deep cleaning" expecially at an extra cost of $1400! I also was found to have slight cracks on a molar and he wanted to grind the tooth down and put a crown on it so i wouldn't risk breaking the tooth someday... PASS! I had my son go on his own to his appt and he phoned me in a panic after he was checked out. He was diagnosed to need $10K worth of work. he was told he had an absess, needed a root canal and crown, along with another tooth that needed an inplant due to some gum loss in front of it! I had my son bring his xrays home so we could go to our old trust worthy dentist for a second opinion! After our exam with our 2nd opinion all my son needs is a tissue graft and was sent next door to a periodontist. We had extra x-rays taken to be sure there was no absess anywhere in his mouth and there are NONE! To think they were going to do a root canal / crown and implants on teeth that are perfectly fine is horrifying! Dr. Brett either doesn't know how to read xrays or is totally trying to make money! Neither is good if you want a good dentist. No more groupons for me for Dental work, and back to my older trustworthy denist for our family! Find somewhere else to go, you can't trust this place! read more

I have had a difficult time finding a dentist that I like and trust since I outgrew my pediatric dentist's practice when I was 15. When my current dentist informed me that I had two cavities that needed to be filled, I decided to trust my gut and get a second opinion. After some researching, I stumbled into this gem of a place. I cannot say enough great things about Tower Dentistry. Upon arrival, I was blown away by the beautiful office, a far cry from the dust-filled, grimy place that I had walked into during my visit to my other dentist the week prior. The office manager greeted me warmly and I was immediately handed my paperwork to fill out. Within moments, I was taken back to my chair by Sheila, who kindly took my x-rays and showed me how to use the DirecTV. Dr. Melgosa quickly showed up by my side, where he examined my mouth before explaining what he would be doing (five fillings- it turns out that my suspicions about my prior dentist overlooking things were correct). He was quick in his work and made me feel very comfortable; I'm still in shock that I felt NO pain throughout the entire procedure. He kept things light and humorous, while explaining every step of the process. My fillings look great, and I am ecstatic to cut ties with my now previous dentist. I will be a loyal patient for life. Do NOT go here if you want to have bad teeth creep up on you over the years. I was a patient for 7 years of Dr. Frank Durand. What kept me going was that he was a very "nice" doctor that both cleaned and watched over my teeth. Throughout the 7 years, I was being told of minor things to pay attention to - more flossing, a cavity, some gum issues and all of that - so I added daily flossing, kept up with my electric toothbrush - but all in all, everything was looking ok. I was a little concerned that the Dr. was also the one cleaning my teeth - and even more concerned when he always spent less then 30 minutes to not only do a short cleaning but in that time also examine my teeth. I've had cleanings for years at other locations - consistently every 6 months - and they have always taken 1 hour from other places - not here. But, I thought, he's the DOCTOR - so he should know. Well, apparently, he did not know. I decided to leave his office during COVID because I didn't feel like they were taking responsibility for my safety (that's another story) - so I went to another dentist down the street who my husband and his family have gone to for decades. I came in to the new dentist under an emergency - a pain in my tooth - and when he took xrays, he saw so much build up that I had permanently lost BONE (that can NEVER come back) - and all sorts of issues (which were starting to present in the previous year with Dr. Durand but nothing that caused pain until now). The new dentist said the build up of calculus (sp?) had been happening for MANY YEARS - to get to the point where it shows up as it does now. Because of the poor cleanings, I had to pay $1000 for a DEEP cleaning and now have to come in 3x / year for more regular cleanings in order to at least MAINTAIN at my current state. I wanted to ask Dr. Durand what was going on and emailed/called the office to speak with him about my care over the many years. I was told by the front desk (the same front desk people who didn't see to care about me during the virus) - that since I was no longer a patient, it would cost me $97 for an office visit. Really? Do NOT go here. Over time - you will have problems - and maybe that's their plan because then you have to pay lots more for other care. Go to Dr. John Bacino down the street. He got me in right away - and has my full trust. read more

WOW ! So impressed by this dental office! My daughter really wanted to go to one of those "kid" dentists because they went to her school and did a presentation. But, my mother in law Anna works here and decided to check it out. (this review will not be based on the fact i know her ) When fist walking into the dentist, it was very clean and welcoming. It was quiet because it was a Saturday. Kayla, Dr. Raschke's assistant brought us back and set up the tv for my daughter while waiting just a few minutes for the Dr. Dr. Raschke was AMAZING. He treated my daughter with such respect. He explained everything to her and told her that he will not lie to her about anything he does. He started by showing her all the instruments and explained to her what each one does, in "fun" terms. He then counted each of her teeth, then did a polish with his cookie dough flavored paste. She was laughing throughout the whole visit. I am definitely making it back to Dr. Raschke in 6 months for her next cleaning! She also got to pick out a prize when done with the visit. read more

Dr. Raschke spent 20 minutes answering all kinds of questions about my teeth and the cracked tooth I currently had. I started going to tower dentistry on a recommendation. I made my appointment with Dr Melgosa who has been fabulous since day one. I had previously been seeing another dentist in the San Diego area, who, for a lack of a better word, seemed like he didn't know what he was doing. From the moment I sat down in the chair at Tower, I felt confident in Dr Melgosa's knowledge and skills. I went through the standard x-rays and the dental techs (not sure their exact title) were very friendly and quick. Those x-rays can be quit annoying but this was one of the best. Reviewing the x-rays was so modern and high tech, I never knew there was such a thing for dentistry. But Tower definitely has all the latest equipment, again making me feel confident in the work being done. Dr Melgosa was awesome in explaining the work that I needed done and gave me several options so I could find a good fit for me. We picked the best course of action and with one quick appointment we got everything done. I am currently in the process of getting Invisalign and Dr Melgosa has been wonderful in helping me through this process. I have wanted to get this done for so many years and he has made it happen in a matter of 2 quick months for me. He is great and has worked on our whole family, even our four-year-old. Well...as I'm sure the Doctors here are more professional and welcoming then what I experienced. They have a very rude, unfriendly and quite uncooperative gatekeeper or what most would call as the front office Manager. First and Foremost I don't deal with gatekeepers well as most of them do not operate as the owner or decision maker for the companies, they simple are not smart or intelligent enough to make financial decisions on behalf of the Doctors, nor do they know anything beyond their programming. This redheaded office Manager proceeded to be rude, and very nasty to me as I explained "this is a legal matter", and as she turned her back on me...I exclaimed..."thanks for the disrespect!" Now...I wash my hand and smile for her disrespect for compliance and if the fines and fees are on her hands at her "they're NOT interested" attitude...I'm free of guilt, but tried to save them. I bought a Groupon coupon for this Dentist office since I had not been able to find a good dentist in my area that I liked. I traveled from Point Loma to El Cajon which wasn't too bad. The office was very modern and all the equipment was state of the art. I was seated within 5 minutes of my appointment and they sat me in a chair with a TV which I could turn to any channel I wanted while I went through the Xrays etc. Nice to get your mind off being at a dentist. Dentist was very thorough & I had my cleaning which was not painful as in the past & had earphones on, while watching TV again! Tara was very patient, took her time & did a great job. Even though it is a little far from my home, I already set up my next cleaning appt and will definitely go back. read more
