When I tried to explain that I had always had manual scaling done in the past, he stated "have you always been like this? This is the only way to clean your teeth." Ive been coming here for better part of 10-11 years. extremely frank and very honest. If there is a issue your told up front "this concerns me", if not urgent......youll be told it does not hurt now...lets keep an eye on it and see how it looks on your next appt. The brutal honesty and customer service is why I return here and refer friends, family and co-workers. 5 years ago my 7 year old was told by his pediatric dentist that he had 8 cavities and would be needed to be put under while they worked on these. I was shocked...this is a kid that does not have candy ( unless its Halloween or at a b-day party). Sodas are not stocked at home so maybe at ballgame or again a party or out to dinner. so I brought my kid here for a second opinion. after x-rays Dr Kamali said I only see 1 possible cavity and saw no reason for the procedure. My third time here and they are super chill when I am late. Dr K explains everything before he starts and makes sure you are comfortable with what he's doing. Receptionist Stephanie is very sweet. The nurses also are very nice. I started coming here because it's by my place and my children come here. Now that I've moved further away, I continue to come here. I've been visiting Dr. Kamali's office for a little bit over the past 6 years and haven't needed to go anywhere else for my dental needs. Originally I came here simply because he was one of the nearest dentists referred to me by my insurance, but I was impressed by his office so I stayed. The office has really good hours for people who work all day like me, being open until 6pm four days a week is quite a change from what I am use to. Most dentists have hours that are almost nonexistent for people who have long work days. Never had a problem ever scheduling an afternoon appointment here, the staff seems to be really good at making their schedule work for people. Everyone on the staff here is very friendly and does a great job at making you feel welcome. Dr. Kamali himself is one of the better dentists I've ever had before. He is straight to the point, tells you what you need to do to improve your situation and provides great feedback. I hate going to the dentist personally, but Kamali makes dental visits seem a lot easier to bear. He's really good with the lidocaine needle providing a pain-free dental experience. Have never had to return for problems with work done here, which is a major plus for any dentist (I've had some really screw things up before). As far as billing rates go, they seem pretty reasonable, I have crappy insurance so I expect I pay a little bit more than most people would. Before starting any procedure here, they come in to inform you exactly the amount you'll be responsible for though giving you several options. Today was my third and last visit to La Mesa Family Dental. The staff are rude and unprofessional. First of all, the receptionist was 10 minutes late, so I was standing outside waiting, she pulls in the parking lot and runs to the door to unlock it, the alarm went off about five times. I have sensitive teeth and my experience today was torturous. Dr. Kamali's response was " I have never seen anyone who is so sensitive! most people fall asleep while I'm doing this!" The dental assistant snapped at me "Not to JERK MY HEAD!" then he had his assistant "polish" my teeth, she needs more training. She was dropping everything & did a fast sloppy job, chomping on gum the whole time. I don't even feel like I had a cleaning. I don't know her name, because she introduced herself as "I'm just here helping out today." They also tried to upsell me a fluoride treatment for $35 and a $25 toothpaste for sensitive teeth. Dr. Kamali and his staff are totally awesome. I have SO much trouble with my teeth and I have ignored them for years because I have had bad experiences with dentists in the past. Dr. Kamali was not judgmental, and even better, he was totally cost conscious. He and his staff worked with my insurance to get me the best benefit coverage. I have a LOT wrong with my teeth, and while he made a plan as to what needs to be done, he said we could just do one thing at a time, working with my budget and taking the time I need. I've been coming to Dr Kamali for the past 13 years and he's a wonderful dentist. His staff has always been very courteous and professional whenever I have had an appointment or have questions. Last week I had my first appointment with Dr. Kamali, Everyone was super nice, and there were lots of friendly faces in there. I thought that ladies in the front were nice and super helpful. After my check up, I was told I needed 4 cavities filled. So I mad an appointment to go back to following Monday. The scheduling was quick and easy and Dr. Kamali made sure that the numbing was in full effect before he started drilling. I was in and out before I knew it. Approximately 3 years ago, I had a bridge made by Dr. Kamali. Getting the bridge was problematic and difficult, due to a combination of grinding and material failures. Dr. Kamali stuck with it and finally had the bridge made from zirconium. Early this year, I began having problems with it...pain when chewing and a sensation of looseness. The bridge needed to be replaced. This possibly is related to continuing issues with grinding which puts extreme pressure on the bridge, and the long span (2 pontics). Dr. Kamali stood by his work and made a new one for no charge. His positive attitude was wonderful. He suggested trying metal as possibly less likely to get damaged. It was delivered yesterday and I am hopeful for years of use. read more

This dental office is the best run dental office I have ever encountered and I've tried quite a few in my life. The staff is well organized and the whole operation runs smoothly. You never wait for long in the waiting room after checking. I have always been in the chair and work beginning at my appointment time. I have encounter offices where I have had to wait 2 to 3 hours before even getting in to a chair. I had 5 teeth extracted yesterday. I have had many teeth extracted over time. I can truly said this was the smoothest I have ever had. I was numbed first and didn't feel a thing and it was over. There was some slight pressure, but I didn't even feel the pressure when the teeth actually let go and came out. Less than 24 hours have passed and I am in great shape and no pain. I went in because of a toothach receptionist talks to you in a rude abrubt manner as if you are a child. and when you ask her to repeat something or question something she gets very defensive. Besides that I am very unhappy with how the dentist was requested a bunch of stuff I didnt need. He abrubplty admitted he doesnt get paid full price for some of the work and he would loose money and my insurance sucks!
