I had been putting it off for almost a year but knew that the longer I delayed, the more problems might crop up. I called Endoconic Specialty Group in Gresham on Tuesday. They schedule me for a consultation the next day. After going over the process and answering all of my questions, I was able to schedule the procedure for the same day as the office had a cancellation for later in the afternoon Everyone in the office was courteous and efficient. X-rays were taken to make sure everyone knew what was ahead and I was perfectly numbed by Dr. Vaughan. (I've never had such a totally painless experience.) A protective dam was installed to help with keeping it all clean and I was offered an option when I initally tensed up at the process. (I have a pretty strong gag reflex but the dental assistant worked gently and slowly, making sure I was comfortable with the device as she installed it.) The process took about an hour. I used my earbuds and music to distract me while they drilled away. I had mentioned problems that I had endured during previous root canals and it appears that Dr. Vaughan was able to get the job done without a recurrence of these problems. I was given specific post-op instructions on pain management and we discussed when I should call my regular dentist to schedule crown prep and cleaning -- in a couple of weeks. All in all, it was a pleasant experience. I would recommend this office to anyone needing a professional and painless root canal. One day later, I have no pain. Thank you.

The evaluation was completed, x-rays snapped, and all was explained to me in generous detail. The procedure was local anesthesia and took less than an hour. They were able to do it the same day, right after the evaluation. The office was very professional. Getting "root canal" is not the boogie-man I have been led to believe - no more or less than most other dental procedures. Note that I am a retired physician. I recommend Dr. Vaughan and this practice without reservation.

When the root canal was finished, I told him, "It would've been nice if there had been a LITTLE less chit chat during it" ( he chit chatted with his assistant nearly constantly during the root canal ). Instead of accepting the constructive criticism, and maybe learning from it, he got defensive. Then I mentioned how I didn't have much anxiety coming in, until he said, "Let's get this nightmare over." He got MORE defensive. "We have anesthesia available," he said. I don't know, simply not referring to the procedure as a "nightmare," right before performing it, seems a lot easier than doing anesthesia. On a side note, but worth mentioning, before the surgery, something in our conversation led me to joke, "My dad didn't tell me about sex growing up. One day my dad said, 'You know about the birds and the bees, right?' I said, 'Yeah.' And he said, 'Good, I'm glad we had this discussion'.... That was a joke." Dr. Bayat said, "Well, here's something that's NOT a joke. The only time my dad mentioned sex was he said, 'Don't get AIDS.'" I think he also said that his dad said, "Don't be gay." So, again, words that might not put certain patients at ease. Dr. Bayat seemed alright when I first met him, a week ago. It was very disappointing to see this other side of him, especially on the day of my first root canal.

I traveled all the way from Portland for my initial appointment and had expressed at that time that I require a trauma informed level of care due to having severe PTSD. The provider I met with had absolutely zero understanding of what trauma informed care is or how to provide it. When attempting to explain my need for this specific level of care, it was merely called into question instead of respected and or accommodated. My wife attempted to contact their office as well, in an effort to explain the severity of my PTSD symptoms and request an appropriate level of care and/or a collaborative approach with my primary care provider to ensure my needs were met accordingly. Instead of finding a way to assist in proceeding forward, they told my wife that they do not; or are not willing to accommodate my needs. As my PTSD diagnosis is a disability and falls under ADA protections, I am absolutely appalled at not only their professed inability to provide an appropriate level of care but the manner in which they so poorly navigated the request. The office staff was extremely rude and unwilling to assist in finding a viable and appropriate option for me to recieve the care I need at their practice. As a retired provider, I am beyond disappointed in their lack of professionalism and/or ability to serve individuals with disabilities in an ethical and appropriate manner. As a patient, I am absolutely devastated by the inability of this office to meet my needs or even express any concern regarding my care.
