This is also known as "LSD," and is located smack in the middle of the central bustling square, vibrant and lively with a hundred twinkling white lights at night, dozens and dozens of white tablecloth tables outside. We entered the restaurant at around 9:pm, late for us in CA, but early by Porto standards. If you like to eat in a quiet environment, do not come here, the place was slamming, literally hopping with energy; at times during our dinner, it became obnoxiously loud. It seemed the place to be, a trendy hip vibe, which should've been my clue that the sound decibel would prove too much for me. The tables are placed very closely together, with barely enough room to walk. But the servers, hostess, etc. are very warm and sweet, try their best at negotiating the tricks of the space. We ordered the vegetable soup, and I guess I had something in mind, which it did not deliver. Turns out, it's the traditional puree of veggies, which tastes almost like liquified baby food. I say this as if it were a bad thing :-) But really, if my expectations had been on course, I would've added salt and called it a good night. We also had the Portuguese sausage, bread and kale soup; again, this is a matter of what I was expecting, which I had a fantasy and vision of a hearty kale leaf ridden creamy or broth, chunks of crusty bread, with sausage slices or pieces strewn in. But it was much more refined and high end, where they poured the liquid separately at the table. This would've been fine had this been what I wanted. But I'm at an age where I hate this fancy schmancy sophisticated trying too hard shit . . . been there done that. I'm over the Michelin star crap. I just wanted a hearty bold sausage soup, but it was not to be. As an entree, we got the turbot Sous vide with potato gratin. If was fresh, and tasted fine, though not exciting. To be fair, if I wanted "exciting," why the hell order a bland white fish, right? That's on me, I admit. We also got their green salad with smoked salmon, roe and egg--oh my goodness! I wish I'd known this was going to be the hit of the century, because I'd have ordered it as my entree and nothing else. It was fantastic and easily hands down the single best, freshest salad in Porto. After spending five days in Porto, I was going through salad withdrawal and desperately needed a hit, a greens to the vein ... awesome crunchy lettuce, a combination of what seemed like butter and little gems, tiny crimson tomatoes, tossed with a light and tangy dressing, redolent of herbs and lemon; resting on top is a salmon filet so lightly and beautifully smoked and without the excess salt, popping pink roe, perfectly 3/4 boiled egg--yes, you read that right: it was not half boiled so it oozed all over the place (not a salad Lyonnaise), and not a fully boiled egg so the knife or spoon doesn't easily puncture. This egg was between the half to full mark--the 3/4 point, where it was moist but not runny, the color not golden yellow but a very deep beautiful marigold, verging on orange. Not sure what these chickens were eating, but let's just say their diet and lifestyle was agreeing with them :-) I should've taken a photo of this salad, but I was overcome with the need to eat and get out of the cacophony and din. I found the prices a bit steep, but give it 5 stars because in all, the experience was solid, and that salad puts it over the top for satisfaction. read more
