Julia (hot & nice!) whisked me away for a rinse, nothing like a beautiful woman washing your hair for you - gotta get Carla to get in the shower w/ me more and pamper my hair! Fortunately Mimmo spoke english and I was able to relay that I work in an office during the day, but like to have a little funky time w/ my hair @ night - "no problem" he says, and gets to work. Mimmo was a very Kool Kat - razor on the sides finishing by hand, then w/ the same scissors ( no blocking shears) went to work on the top. He had a technique for creating a choppy/uneven top for standing things up w/ product. He held the hair as normal between the fingers, but instead of cutting straight across, he "whipped" the scissors at the hair and cut at the same time, only chopping a sliver at a time, leaving some long, some short - this really helps to get the hair to that contrived messy look, which many times eludes me. Back to Julia for a 2nd rinse (no complaint here, see rinse comment above!), a quick dry and light putty product to get me as italian stylish as this American could get! Great men's haircut and service, when in Florence/Firenze and need of some style, hit up Contesta Rock Hair and ask for Mimmo... tell him the guy from California sent you, it might just make him smile...

From the window it looks like there are only 2 or 3 chairs, but the shop is T shaped and there are more chairs and barbers around to the left. My barber spoke English, but the only question he asked me was how I wanted my hair and where I'm from. I told him I was from the US and I asked him where he was from. Pakistan. I've lived in Florence for 8 months now and have gone here 3 times. I originally went here because…read morethey claim to do "dip" nails. The dip is only for the base and then they finish it with gel, which I was have avoided for years as I do not want the skin exposure to the UV light. The first manicure was good, not great, but I liked the atmosphere of the salon. It was definitely priced on the higher side, especially compared to US pricing. The returned a month or so later for another manicure and simply got the gel manicure. It last about 2 weeks before starting to chip, which I found unusual. I decided to do my own manicures because I didn't want to continue UV exposure for a gel manicure. So I finally went back last week, after the holidays, to get a "dip" manicure once again, to help protect my nails and keep them strong. I guess I had forgotten they do not do a true dip manicure with powder for the color coat, only the base, using gel and UV for the color coat. Literally within 24 hours one of my nails chipped. And I am not hard on my nails. I decided I would not go back after paying €80. No fill, no artificial nails - just base coat and gel color. And then, two days later, another nail chipped. Maybe it was the nail tech, but I will not return. I expect more out of a salon that charges this kind of pricing.
