You know this particular saying, 'There comes a time where a young man will grow up to be... an…read moreolder version of himself.' Okay, that might not have been accurate, but the idea is there. Kitchen Garden at Rodneys felt like a cafe that started humbly and grew to this fantastic experience that we know today. With its fantastic outdoor seating, amazing food and a beautiful garden store, Rodneys is a fantastic place to sit down, ogle with your special someone, and eat brunch. Then, after you've done absorbing each other's presence -- this got weird -- then you can transition your existence to the garden store and buy you and your special someone a plant... or two. Before this review gets any weirder -- I've just looked at the clock at its 10:23pm, and I'm exhausted -- the bottom line is fundamentally this: Kitchen Garden at Rodneys is a fantastic place to fill the senses. From its delicacies through to its merchandise, I am certain that you will find everything that they have to offer tasty, beautiful, and affordable.

The ploughmans was the right size for the right price, no feeling of being ripped off with tiny portions, the juice was gorgeously presented and delicious. Amazing food aside, the staff were the highlight. So attentive and lovely. The gentleman who looked after us really made us feel special. The separate dining area in the nursery for parents with kids to have room to run around is a stroke of genius too.

French toast with berries, compote and marscopone was delicious (if a trifle sweet for me). Toast with poached eggs and avocado was cooked perfectly and served with the freshest lemon. Coffee was fine in terms of flavour (not "great"), but perfectly extracted and tricky soy microfoam spot on (unlike some more dedicated coffee joints around town). Best brunch all round. Also enjoyed the low-key funk/soul on the sound system today. Nice airy fit-out and decor, and plenty of outside seating

The smoked trout tortilla is a great, high protein way to start the day, while the sausage and egg brioche burger is a significant upgrade on what you could get at other *ahem* breakfast outlets, with crunchy and fresh tasting bread and a rather delicious onion marmalade. I haven't tried the lemon pancakes but they are on my to-try list. The meals are well presented and just right in portion size. The prices are reasonable in Canberra terms but beware the sides- I paid $3 for the mushrooms, which was literally one medium size mushroom. Be sure to make a reservation as its a popular place, and bring cash if you plan on splitting bills.

Our waitress was super attentive, making sure water glasses were filled and noticing when the sun was hitting our faces full on, she opened up another umbrella. It was great to catch up with my friends and the weekend breakfast menu was a good price and with good options. The only bummer was that they didnt allow substitutions, which was an issue for one friend. I got the Poached free range egg, asparagus, mushrooms, avocado, sourdough for $13.50, and it was a lovely plate. I did wish my sourdough bread was a little bit thicker, but otherwise everything tasted farm-fresh. The majority of my friends ordered the Spelt and almond muesli, nutmeg poached pears, Greek style yoghurt for $13, and I guess it was pretty good too, as I heard sounds of bowls being scrapped towards end of the meal. I cant wait to go here again :)
