My wife, son, daughter-in-law and I were on Wellesley Island on vacation for a week. We wanted to…read moreget fresh veggies and fruit before going to the supermarket to stock up for the week. I found Cross Island Farms on the internet and we decided to check it out. The farm was not what I expected but it turned out to be a pleasant experience. When we drove up to the front of the house (yes, house) we were greeted by two friendly dogs. As we are all dog lovers, we made friends with them right away. We went inside and saw a table full of fresh fruit and vegetables and more in a refrigerated case. Someone (one of the owners?) came to help us. She helped us choose what we needed and told us about the selection of meats. We then also bought a thick sirloin steak that we ate that night. It was yummy. She also told us about the fruit picking. We went back the following morning to do that and got some more freshly picked fruit. Wow, those strawberries were very tasty. Can't get them in Westchester County. (We live in Peekskil, NY and Denver. No one is from San Francisco. Where did that come from?) As for the animals, I think you have to take the full tour to see them all. But we did see a few pigs and goats. I wanted to pet them all as they seemed friendly but they were behind a fence. Oh well. Overall, a very satisfying experience. Just don't expect anything fancy.

Cross Island Farms is certified organic. They sell goat, beef, pork, [organic/free-range] eggs, fruits, vegetables and herbs. They have educational (and enjoyable) farm tours, primitive campsites (private&no energy/water hook-ups, walk in etc.,) and volunteer opportunities. It is a fairly small farm run by two people in the thousand islands region of NY.

Ottawa is so lucky to have this facility. Located in the Riverside area near Billings Bridge it's…read moregot an unreal amount of stuff happening at all times of the year. Under their umbrella, there's a ton of fitness centres and wellness programs (like the Nepean Tennis Club!) under their "lifefit" heading. I had my first experience here in a summer camp when I was young, and then at a volleyball camp as a teen. As an adult, I appreciate all the clubs and sport leagues available. They also do training courses like CPR and First Aid, and have specialty classes like Fine Art which is cool. Their facility is a big one, and there's a ton to learn and see, so take your time and soak it all in. I'm a big advocate of checking out their website to see what might be of interest to your fine self. You can get an individual or family membership, and there's a lot of options, so if you get confused, maybe go in for a chat. The FieldHouse Bar and Grill is also a part of the centre and serves up breakfast, lunch dinner and snacks and drinks. There's also a sports shop that sells fitness gear like clothing, tennis rackets and they offer restringing which is helpful. They also have banquet and special event services as well as a massage and physiotherapy clinic! If you're looking to get active or make some new friends, this is an awesome place to check out. Also great for kids - they have a massive summer program!

The lobby is nice and welcoming and the signage is very helpful to get the guests to where they need to be in the building. The food the catering staff creates is top quality and their event staff must be on point as I've never attended an event where anything went wrong from the venue's perspective. They recently added a temporary extension off the front. I'm not sure what this building houses. It includes an enclosed walkway from the main building to the new temporary building. That walkway is a bit awkwardly placed and makes cab drop-offs and pick-ups somewhat difficult. It's not possible to see the full driveway and getting passed the temporary walkway is a bit of a squeeze in order to get to the cab drop-off/pick-up. But with all new things come a few bumps, so I'm sure they'll figure this out quickly.

John has come to the rescue many, many times for us resolved and fixed quickly. Pam found us a site 4 years ago when we could not find one. Highly recommend!

We did and wait until 10 minutes for her as she stopped to yell at other campers while on her golf cart. After tersely telling us her rules - including a 5 mph speed limit, which we felt was reasonable- she led us to our campsite. As I was driving 5 mph- we lost Pam who was indeed breaking this rule on her golf cart. The Campgrounds amenities were less than stellar. There was a dusty, dimly light game room that appeared to have not been touched in decades. The bathrooms floors were dirty. The coin operated 4 minute showers was something that I will never forget. The pool was very nice but we were told that we could only use it if there were two adults in there at all times. Our "campsite" was in the middle of an open field with other campers. There was no septic hook ups which we knew about in advance. I had to leave with our son for a few days. My wife and daughter stayed behind. That night, lights flickered in our camper and our AC went off and circuits were popping. My wife called for help and Pam's husband, John, showed. Up. He rudely accused of having a poorly wired camper- our 5th wheel was a new 2025- only on our second trip. He also rudely told her that she shouldn't have requested a 30 amp. She emphatically denied as she knows our 40 foot camper runs on a 50 amp. This was requested multiple times with as we had previously made our reservation over the phone. Pam admitted that it was her mistake and she also admitted to moving our site. John pointed out that no other campsite would help people in "the middle of the night".... It was only 9:15 PM at the end of June! We have been at Swan Bay as well as several KOA s in New York State, and had wonderful pleasant people help us well after his "middle of the night" time. John continued to insist as he yelled inches from my wife's face (witnessed by my daughter and reported by my wife) that our RV was wired wrong and he boasted that he had a degree in electrical engineering from Penn State. He stated that he knew what he was talking and that my wife needed to listen to him. My wife and I have several degrees but we both know that no degrees are needed to be kind to people. He kindly hooked a battery charger to our (labeled) Deep Cycle battery. My wife called me and said that nothing seemed to be working and I asked if the charger was on regular or derp cycle. It was regular so my wife switched it over to the correct setting. Unable to have any power, my wife and daughter, fleed early and paid for a Vrbo in the area. We had made arrangements to keep our RV there and John was nice enough to help us move it. The price for the unoccupied camper stay increased from the quoted $50 to $100 which I found out about when I arrived. It seemed reasonable at that time. Pam said that for our troubles that she would reimburse us the $100 with a check since we were taking it back home to the Finger Lakes area to have our RV dealer look it over. When I arrived for pick up - Pam indeed handed me a check - only made out for $50.00. No money was offered for the day that we had to leave. After a thorough check from our RV dealer- it was found that our camper was fine. We have enjoyed using our RV to its fullest capacities at other campgrounds the rest of this summer. We were greatly disappointed and are still aggravated by our experience this summer at the Riverside Acres campground in Clayton, NY
