There were four of us on a Monday which is hard to find something open. The menu had good options but very little description of the contents of each item. The menu was a bit cryptic, we didn't know about the starters and it didn't describe the sides included. There was soup, salad and a side with most meals. The servings were quite generous but you couldn't tell from the menu. The schnitzel is REALLY good. There were several menu items unavailable (but it was a Monday). Not many items were gluten free. The servers were a bit curt or perhaps young or uninformed about ingredients. Lastly, I was expecting a sort of fine dining experience, at least for North Woods, however the salad dressing were served in plastic cups with plastic lids and tasted like bottled dressing. Food- nice that they can provide a good Gluten Free pizza big enough for two people with some leftovers. Drinks are well made and looking forward to trying out the patio are in the summer or better yet the fall with less biting critters in the area. Generally some sport on the TV and some coin operated games available plus a nice looking pool table. Haven't tried anything that wasn't gluten-free so I can't comment on the rest of the food but I would expect to be good. Never heard anyone complain about food or service. Outstanding drinks and dinner. Max the bartender is a total professional. Amuse Buche was tapenade with cream cheese spread on toast points. Saganaki is a family favorite so we tried theirs: perfect! Daughters ordered prime rib, chicken en croute, and I had the roast duck. Everything was very nice, and the atmosphere was a nice change of pace fron the up north fish mounts and taxidermy. Came here with a large group. Food was good but service painfully slow. Poor waitress- she was trying but it must have taken her 20 mins to prepare our bills. The best chef in the north woods! I brought my mother there at her request as her favorite restaurant. She had the best duck ever and I had a perfectly cooked petite tenderloin. Accept this place for what it is - a restaurant in the north woods that tries to do well - and you'll be happy. If you want it to be something else, say a great steakhouse, an elegant place, or a restaurant with gourmet cuisine, you'll be disappointed. The owner tries to do a pretty good job. Went with some friends for dinner this weekend. The dining room looks like an 80's quiet supper club kind of a place. Overall, it was a great meal. Everything i ate was delicious and all entrees come with soup and salad and sides. Service, well tried kidding around with our waitress Hillary and she told me to "shut-up". She actually said shut up without a smile and she meant it-we were all taken a back. She wasn't very attentive and as rude as they come. I don't know WHAT the other reviewers liked about this place. It smells. It's expensive. The service is nonexistent as far as I can tell. We were there for at least a half hour before anyone even acknowledged us. When someone finally spoke to us, all they said was 20 minute wait. It was a Tuesday night in the off-season! Our table was full of half-eaten food from the previous party the whole time. No one bused the table. Even though the bar was right by our table, nobody ever acknowledged us, offered us drinks, or anything. We weren't into spending a hard-earned $100 for two meals at a place where we felt invisible. Instead, we blew the place off & went down Hwy 45 South to Green Hills Log Cabin Bar where the food was great, service was excellent & everyone made us feel at home. Don't waste your money or time on Lanny's. They think waay too much of themselves. read more

Found this place looking at all the other reviews and believe me they are correct. This place may be a bit pricy but it's totally worth it. Pick anything on the menu and it is guaranteed to be fantastic! Just make sure not to get the chicken cordon bleu definitely the worst thing I've ever eaten... On the other hand the blackened ribeye was one of the most tender and flavorful steaks I've had in a while. Also make sure to get the chicken and sausage tortellini as our entire family couldn't keep our hands off that entree it was so good! read more

A nice departure from the typical "supper club" of the North Woods. That being said you still get a basket of crackers w/ cheese & cranberry or tomato juice with your meal. We chose to sit at the bar- as the dining room seemed a bit more proper & quiet than I was feeling. I'm glad we did as Jeff was taking a shift at the bar instead of the kitchen and was extremely helpful. We still had a waiter who was taking our order but he was a bit stuffy & trying too hard, Jeff was laid back and kept our drinks filled. We got the spanikopita for an appetizer, it was excellent.I ordered the Ahi Tuna which was pretty good, not the best I've had but prepared nicely with fried spinach & grilled veggies. My BF got something Jeff recommended which was good but not really what the BF was into. So overall the food was OK, but mostly because we went with what was recommended not what we actually wanted. So we will have to make another trip and try again :) read more

Best meal I've ever had in the north woods. After years of the Oneida Village, this was an excellent (albeit pricey) change of pace. We had a short wait and got drinks at the bar while they prepared our table. Our service was great, every need was tended to. I ordered the steak Alfredo; great pasta, but the meat was just eh - I think it may have just been a less tender cut. I tried everyone else's food too, and the chicken breast stuffed with artichoke was fantastic as well. Lannys is a great place to eat 365. The problem is service. The hostess cares and does a wonderful job always. The wait staff is awful. Tonight is Allen who is not even bad but sucks beyond belief and far from humble. Why have such a pathetic human on the payroll? Lanny you are far better than this! I have visited this restaurant three previous years and loved the good. Today was more than a disappointment. We drove 300 miles so my inlaws could celebrate their anniversary here. The table was beautiful the view lovely, the soup & salad wonderful. BUT the main courses were SO disappointing. My schnitzel was terrible. The breading not very connected to the meat & the grease was everywhere. Did they deep fry a schnitzel? I ordered a sweet potato that was shriveled & cold! Leftover from yesterday? My sister-in-law ordered a ribeye which came about 1/2 inch thick for $29. She said it tasted like a warmed over last nights prime rib! Hubby got the pork chop which tasted good but was so full of msg we had to stop at Walgreens to buy him medicine to stop his swelling stomach. I understand an off night but when we verbalized our concerns the staff ignored us and was through with us. Sadly one our favorite trips to this area will be no more. Hate to see this once hidden gem fall so far. read more

Not your typical northwoods restaurant! Everything else in the northwoods just seems to get lost in a sea of sameness. Lanny's excels where others seem to fail. Lanny's gives you the northwoods ambiance at first glance but be prepared to be blown away by the food and drink they offer. As a resident of Chicagoland I have so many top notch dining and drinking choices to choose from. When traveling to the northwoods its nice to be able to have a choice that gives you the northwoods hospitality but not the typical fare. Upon entering you will receive a warm greeting from Max the Mixoligist, he can truely make any cocktail you request. You will definately want to enjoy an after dinner drink with him as he will make you feel comfortable enough to not want to go anywhere else for a nightcap. Once you open the menu you will see what seperates them from everyone else. Fresh hand cut steaks, fresh roast duck, and some magnificent wines to pair with your meal. If you really want to splurge, get the Valpolicella Amarone. I thought I could only get this in Chicago, really who would have ever thought you could get a 90+ score wine with DOCG status in the northwoods, I paired it with a 20oz Ribeye. I know the menu only lists a 16oz but thats another thing about being hand cut, they will cut you any size steak. I unfortunately did not have room for desert but will try the Profiteroles as suggested by the chef when he was making his rounds through the dining room ensuring everyone was extremely satisfied. I usually start with positives and end with the negatives but in this case I could not thnk of one. Even the service was top notch. They are very knowledgeable of the menu and wine list. read more

One of the absolute best supper clubs up north. Reservations are a must! Starts at the bar, where you're greeted by Max, a 13 year employee, who makes a professional martini. Try the Swiss cheese spread offered in the bar. It's excellent. Then move to your table, very up north yet a touch of sophistication . The key you are about to experience is Lanny, the owner and nightly chef. You've just avoided the biggest problem up north...rotating chefs. When you do find a new favorite , the next time u go back, the chef could have moved on. Not a problem at Lannys. Were there on a Sunday nite, and our friends had the special pork chop dish. Said was the best ever had, very moist and unique flavor. Wife had lightly breaded walleye, which was bright white and perfectly prepared. I tasted it, and had to agree it was incredible. I had the tuna filet, and it was so fresh I had to remember that I was up north. Top 3 I've ever had, maybe the best. This restaurant could hold its own anywhere. My husband and I stopped in to eat at Lanny's while we were on vacation. When we arrived (on a Saturday night), the parking lot was fairly full but there were still plenty of spaces left. When we walked in we had to wait a while for the hostess to make an appearance and she told us it would be a short wait for a table, so we waited at the bar. After about 15 minutes the hostess returned and seated us at a table. She told us that they were busy, so our waitress would be a few minutes. A "few" minutes actually meant 30 minutes before the waitress made her first appearance. When she did, she just laughed and said "she did tell me I had a table, but then I just forgot all about you! ha ha!" I ordered the chicken stuffed with wild rice and brie and my husband had the rouladen. We both thought the food was good, although mine was extremely rich- probably something that would be delicious in the winter but a little heavy for summer. The portions were fairly large and dinner comes with several sides (salad, potato), so we were totally stuffed by the time we were done. The prices were a little on the high side, but not outrageous. The only major negative was not so much the fault of the restaurant but that of two very loud, obnoxious middle-aged and well-to-do couples from Illinois (they were loudly talking about where they were from) who apparently had a few too many cocktails and did not think they should have to wait in the bar area. Instead, they were wandering into the dining room, messing with things on the hostess stand, and loudly complaining about the wait. This was definitely a disruption to our meal and it made us very eager to leave at the end. I don't know that the restaurant staff could have done anything other than maybe ask these people to please return to the bar area, but their behavior did leave us feeling more negatively about the place. read more

If I have an issue, I always take it up with management rather than ruin a reputation so I just won't write anything if it's a bad experience. This place deserves the best I have to offer. North woods supper clubs are fine but if you are up here and want a change of pace, this is an excellent alternative. Service was great. Had Scott taking care of us and he did a superb job. The cocktails were generous and Scott knew his stuff all the way around. He shared that what we were thinking of ordering were top sellers and I can see why. The potato soup was broth based with cream giving it a nice light balance with plenty of potato and green onion. We both ordered salad with lemon vinaigrette that was enough to bring us back. My wife's tenderloin tips and gnocchi were everything you would expect. Meat was tender, gnocchi was delicate yet al dente. Rich sauce with bits of tomato was just right. My chicken saltimbocca was incredible (I never order chicken but love saltimbocca). The prosciutto, cheese and spinach along with the velvety masala sauce was a perfect compliment to the chicken breast. We didn't have room for desert but it all was home made and sounded terrific. read more
