Turned up to be told there…read morewas 'no lights' then got to my room to discover there was actual no electricity at all (funnily enough though they were still able to use card machines and take contactless payments). Waited as we were told the electricity would be back on at half past 7 latest (bearing in mind this was about half past 4 we got there. Had to speak to manager and explained that it wasn't really okay and surely the least that she should be doing is offer us a complimentary drink while we couldn't use our rooms to which she eventually agreed after a debate. Went through to bar sat in total darkness had to request a candle (no one offered one) waited and checked with manager a few times to be still told repeatedly that it would be back on by half past 7 latest so ordered another drink and sat in bar as it was pointless going to room but as time went on started to feel like nothing was happening and they were still cooking with no extractor fan so the whole place was smokey so went to room and went for a little walk then came back and went to request a refund as the situation was not acceptable. Explained how I had already paid for an uber there and was going to have to then pay for a taxi back as didn't have any power in my phone so had to request a taxi be phoned which was another huge debate ( at this time the chef had to come out to tell the manager he couldnt keep cooking bevause it was breaching health and saftey regulations). During this process the manager started to cry in front of all the other customers which then caused a debate between myself and another couple who had just turned up. This then escalated to a point that I had a pint thrown in my face. I find it highly unprofessional how the situation was dealt with and the fact that the manager created more of an escalation by involving other customers who had just arrived. Tried ringing multiple times to no avail even though the power is back on. After I eventually managed to get a taxi out of the hellhole and I then was so flustered and worked up that I left my wallet in the taxi and I can't get in touch with the cab company because I don't even know which company the staff rang. This is beyond a joke I have emailed and called with absolutely no response the place is an absolute joke

It's a must for me on Sundays in summer. Easily found just off the A6, this complex of thatched hamlets making up the pub, restaurant and hotel rooms is remarkably peaceful and a real retreat to bygone times. I often find myself sampling the wine list during the afternoon, succumbing to the menu at dinnertime, slipping into a comfy chair in the bar and then booking a room for the night! Residents can also make the most of the 'nightclub' a bit of a locals night, but great fun in a rural way. The restaurant and pub menu is part of the 'Taste Lancashire' acceditation scheme, which guarentees local produce wherever possible, as well as high standards of service and hygiene. TIP - Make sure you book a room with a whirlpool bath - just don't have a blonde moment like me and go overboard on the complimentary bubble bath - not fun to clean up! Another tip is to check out when they hold their annual oyster festival - usually in early September.

Our son enjoyed the steak pie, and refused to share. I had the Lancashire Hotpot, which was supposed to be swapped for 1/2 of the steak pie, and it was good but not quite as good as Nan's. Our gluten-free companion was overwhelmed by the number of choices that were gluten-free, and chose the fish pie - which she thoroughly enjoyed. Followed up by a delicious sticky toffee pudding and a gluten-free iced lemon and Grand Marnier mousse, we wobbled out quite content. With Hobgoblin, Cumberland, and a guest ale on tap, there's plenty to try while searching for that perfect pint. The restaurant was clean, the staff were all smiles, there was a small beer garden outside, and the pub was clearly separate from the restaurant. The establishment is now called "The Railway @ Euxton", so the Railway Tavern name shown onb Yelp is a bit dated.

Having read some great reviews of this place, and had some personal recommendations from family and…read morefriends, I booked a table for 2 for 5.30pm on Sunday, looking forward to enjoying a place that serves a roast dinner beyond 3 in the afternoon! When my partner and I arrived, the restaurant was practically empty and we were seated at a table in the middle of the dining area. Our waitress pointed out the day's specials (roasts are up on the blackboard) and very quickly brought our drinks order. A few minutes later, a family of 4 (including 2 toddlers, one using a highchair) were seated at the table right next to us. As we'd gone out for a quiet meal (and a break from noisy toddlers!) we apologised for seeming rude and moved tables. The family agreed they couldn't understand why they'd been put right next to us when the place was empty, and said they'd actually specifically requested a corner table for their kids to make as much noise as they wanted without disturbing other diners.............. So that was the first gripe. Our starter of "mixed breads and crisp breads" arrived as a small wooden board with 4 chunks of (admittedly tasty and fresh) different breads, with 3 very small pots of oil/aioli and none of the advertised crispbreads. As our plates were being removed, we were immediately asked if we were ready for our main meals; staff were fine when we asked if we could have a few minutes breather and a chance to enjoy our drinks. And then our roasts arrived..... Well, I have to say I've seen more meat in a Birds Eye "Frozen Dinner for One". 3 small, thin slices of beef, served with a Yorkshire pudding and 3 roast potatoes. Vegetables (which are served in separate ceramic dishes) comprised a dish of cauliflower cheese (which was delicious) and another, with about 6 baby carrots and barely enough mixed green veg (courgettes, peas, beans) for us to have a scoopful each. The meat was very tasty and tender but my partner had devoured it in a few minutes! I took pity on him and gave him the rest of my meat and potatoes, and commandeered the cauliflower cheese as my "main course". We felt that at £13.95, this offered poor value for money, especially in an area where there are lots of pubs offering "2-for-1" Sunday lunch and carvary menus. There were some nice looking puddings and icecreams on the dessert menu, but seeing as our bill had already reached £40 for the plate of bread, 2 stingy roast dinners, a glass of wine and a pint of lemonade, we decided to give it a miss...... We were so disappointed, as the staff are friendly and efficient, and there is a lovely "buzz" to the dining room, and we may be tempted to go back in the week and see if the normal menu gives you better "bang for your buck" - but we will be trying to sate our Sunday dinner cravings elsewhere!

Pacing is on the slower end, which was perfect for us, as we were mainly there to catch up, talk, and hang out with the group. I always enjoy strolling through groceries stores in different countries and seeing the local offerings. The waitress advised she would be back to take our order but with no return I attempted to make a food order at the bar only to be told someone will take table side orders... 15 mins later still nobody has come to take our order.... at this point I'm tempted to just leave and take my mother elsewhere for lunch but decide to stand my ground... so 20 mins in to our hour time frame our order has been taken whoo! Not even hungry at this point but like I said standing my ground Overall it's a shame because I'd heard great things about this place but first impressions last and at this point the only thing that's going to save them is the food. I had a craft platter consisting of hallumi fries , butter milk garlic bread and vegetable goyaza with a side salad My mother had the Sunday standard roast beef dinner Okay update... main was 'ok' but I've had better the fries were over oily and couldn't finish the rest of the meal after getting that stodgy feeling we have now hit our hour time frame and still waiting for desert .. The desert was the star of the meal I had the salted caramel pecan brownie and it was melt in the mouth delicious! I actually have no complaints. Would I return? The greeting we had set the tone for the meal I work 17 hour shifts it's rare I eat out and when I do the last thing I want is to feel under pressure and constantly checking the time I want to be able to relax and have a laugh ... the waitress we had was lovely but a little slow on the service. If I had to return I would begrudgingly but it wouldn't be my choice.
