Really nice place & one of me & my friend's favourites. Good service & tasy food at a very affordable price. Never had a bad meal.

Situated in St Helens, it's a gem of a spot with excellent service, polite and attentive staff, superb fresh and skilled cuisine and comfort for everyone, whether you're a large group, a family or a tiny little couple. Its regularly changing menu keeps life interesting for the workers and customers alike, but why, pray, at this quality, is it so darn cheap? The answer's simple. A lot of what you're being fed comes from learners. Yep, some of the catering students from St Helens College actually conduct their training here. You shouldn't at all let that change your opinion of the place. Each and every kid here will be putting 110% effort into their dishes and have the enthusiasm of youth on their side, and you can certainly taste the pizzazz. It's a new and unusual option as not often does one get to taste the results of a good education but I can highly recommend it, and those that love the restaurant have trusted it for years. Give it a go - you might learn something yourself!

Inside the restaurant is neatly set out with a contemporary modern feel. The menu is awesome, very adventurous and their dessert list certainly passes my criteria. D E L I C I O U S! Emma-Louise has filled you in on the detail on why the food AND prices are so great, so I won't go into that. What they also do - but I don't think they do enough - is the themed nights, running from Nov to June and including an italian evening, burns night, valentines, mother's day, 70's evening, greek evening, chinese evening and father's day. Oh let there be more!

It's easy to find, as St Elphin's 280ft spire - the third highest of any parish church in England - provides a perfect landmark. The pub is part of an attractive clutch of old buildings next to the church, and is Grade II Listed, although unfortunately there's a large Sainsbury's plonked opposite. Inside, it feels more like a country pub than a town pub: lots of tucked away seating areas (ideal for family or social groups) give it a cosy feel, with some old beams on the ceiling providing the right atmosphere. Real ale fans are well catered for with two regulars and three guest ales, although one of the latter was off on our visit. The food menu is extensive and features traditional pub grub, with main meals, baguettes, sandwiches and baked potatoes. There's a good vegetarian selection, too, and staff were friendly and helpful. The 10 minute walk to the pub from Warrington Town Centre passes several other old pubs, also serving real ale, on Buttermarket Street and Church Street, which would make for a perfect real ale pub crawl, ending at the Ring O'Bells. There's a bus stop a few yards away to get you back to the bus station, if needed!

This is a fairly typical 'spoons pub. with a good selection of well-kept and well served real ales, a selection of national brand keg beers at good prices, various wines and spirits and a family-friendly setting. The menu is basic but good and at excellent prices. My wife and I called in for a mid-afternoon snack as we were going on to a presentation for 15.00. I ordered a small plate of nachos and she had a bowl of soup (Italian tomato). My wife added a plate of "Topped chips" as the staff told her there was an offer of three snacks for £10, so the chips were, in effect, free. The food came within fifteen minutes and was exactly as ordered, but my nachos looked like the Sharing plate I usually eat as a main meal! I couldn't finish them or the excellent chips, which were topped with bacon and cheese! The soup was reported as excellent by someone who usually makes her own! The staff were efficient and friendly, despite the fact that it was so full of customers they were quite rushed and all tables were cleared and cleaned as soon as vacated.
