Mind you, this park, or at least the gully, certainly doesn't feel like your typical national park, in that the trees here make it feel much more like England. On the other hand, this place is the best place to start your trek up to the top of Mount Lofty, probably because there is a car park here. On the other hand, there isn't a kiosk, just a fancy restaurant.

I'd…read morespent years in Adelaide before ever coming here, and I was surprised at how close a natural treasure like this could be situated so close to the hustle and bustle of the city without any overlap. This is one of the reasons I hold Adelaide in such high regard, as you only have to travel ten minutes from the city to find yourself in an oasis such as this. The waterfall is grand and magnificent, and a short walk up to the top will give you a a breathtaking view of the flora (and the carpark) below. However, for the greatest view, one must traverse the walking trail all the way to Mount Lofty. It's no easy feat, and I've experienced my fair share of wanting to turn back. Though it starts off quite pleasant, the climb soon becomes steep and relentless, and simply grounding yourself on the rocky path is a challenge. However, the reward once reaching Mount Lofty is worth it, and you can enjoy a coffee or lunch at the cafe before making your way back down. The scenery on the drive in and out of Waterfall Gully is also picturesque, with age old architecture and rolling hills in the background. I even spotted some deer once on the drive out! Keep your eyes peeled.

It has wonderful play equipment, lots of space, sheltered table and chairs, beautiful trees and lawn, toilets and drink fountains. This is such a pretty and well maintained area with many walks and sections to the park. I have included a map of the park so you can have an idea of the space and fun you can have there. If you're wanting to have a large gathering at this park, I would suggest calling the Onkaparinga City Council (the number is listed in the business info section) to see if there's a booking system or a requirement to being able to request a certain area of the park. Visiting Thalassa would be a 'whole day' adventure to get the most out of the place. It sure looks like great fun and is definitely on my list of 'places to go back to and explore further'. I'm not sure if dogs are allowed at this park. If you can't make it to St Kilda playground, this is kinda mini (double mini version) of St Kilda. A long slippery dip awaits you and it stretches all the way down. I've seen many parents enjoy a fun ride down the slide with their kids in tow. Huge wooden timber fort awaits you in this slippery dip as you call out your mates to join you here. You'll also find a horse riding swing equipment, fantastic swings, flying fox and wait for it.....a long suspension bridge which will guarantee hours of fun, giggles and a bit of butterflies in your tummy! Plenty of benches and plenty of picnic spots to throw a rug here. The only downside I found was the council should have planted more trees here as it can get pretty hot during summer and you don't want to end up with a toasty butt on your way down the slippery dip! Overall: I heart Dunstan Playground.

This time however I discovered the park via its other entrance, around the corner on Magill Road. I truly believe this park has something for everyone. It's a stunner. This park has obviously been around for a while because there's a plaque inside saying it was opened by Don Dunstan back in 1978 but there are other notices saying it has just undergone a significant upgrade. All I can say to the Norwood Council is ... well done you guys! Great job! Not only is the park beautifully landscaped with accompanying paved areas, there is masses of seating, a playground, barbecues, toilets, a dog drinking fountain, a people drinking fountain and some great art has been created on bare walls to bring them to life as well. The quirkiest and cutest thing in the park would have to be the stump of an old tree that looks like a loo! At first I thought, what a cool seat under that tree but on closer inspection there's a hole in the centre that makes it look more like a toilet. Glad to see someone has a sense of humour when it comes to public spaces. Great park and there are good coffee shops just across Magill Road if you want to get a coffee and enjoy it outdoors. BTW I'm with Tegan - its not a little park!

It's not that small as alleged by my fellow yelpers, rather it has three joined but sort of seperated parts. There are two sets of play equipment, brand new toilet block, a bike parking area, a filtered drinking water 'station', bags for doggy doo, lots of green grass, lots of seating, a mural and a big fancy sign. I love it, so please don't come here unless you are very goodlooking, or intelligent, or interesting, or generally have something to offer, even if it's just chocolate. Lot's of play equipment to keep the kids entertained, I do have a problem with the slide set up though, to get to the top you have to climb up this weird green material that has been fashioned into steps, but you cant really see the steps, very tripsy indeed. I know this because I went down the slide numerous times and the climb up didn't get any easier. There is a kiosk available for drinks and ice-cream etc. you can bring your own picnic though and there are BBQ facilities available. one thing I did notice was a lack of rubbish bins, in fact I didn't see one, but there had to be one because there was no rubbish on the ground. The burnside pool is just across the green if you want to go for a swim, personally I don't like public pools because of how much chlorine they have to pack into them, ever had chlorine induced hazy eye syndrome? It's painful.

There are BBQs on the lawn section just off of the playground area and unfortunately there isn't a lot of shade over there apart from tree shade. If your child is in a wheel chair, there is a mechanical swing for them to use. Lots of fun shall be had at this playground.

Watch out for the Bunyip…read more It's very peaceful here, you can take a walk around the lake which will take about 10 mins max and there are various places to sit and watch birds. I think that's why the Bunyip moved here, because it's such a serene place to be. I like to come and feed the ducks bread, which apparently you aren't supposed to do but hey, I'm a rule breaker. Nice to come a read a book or have a picnic on a warm, sunshiney day or evening to get a fix of nature. I was kidding when I said watch out for the Bunyip, He's actually pretty nice.

Woorabinda Lake is a beautiful little lake hidden away behind Stirling…read more Part of the Stirling Linear Park, Woorabinda originally formed because the newly installed train line prevented water from running as it usually did in the area and pooled in the natural depression now known as the lake. Regardless of the fact that this isn't a natural lake, it is a haven for native species. Water birds like ducks and geese flock here and there are plenty of fish kicking around underwater, not to mention the amphibious and insect components of the area which are numerous to say the least. There are tracks beginning and running through here. To walk around the lake is pretty short (only about .6km), but a nice one for the dogs or kids as the paths and boardwalk are well maintained. There are benches and a bird watching house amongst the wetlands here too if you're planning on a picnic or need a short break. There's also a jetty if you feel like sitting out and catching a few redfin.

The new playground has a bird theme, but I think it might be a little too advanced for very young children. The surrounding recreation reserve is really well set out, with a long walk through carefully tended gardens going all round the reservoir set so picturesquely into the hillside. The grounds are huge, with excellent walking trails, and tons of space for family picnics and gatherings. Plenty of bbq's are available to support those gatherings, and there's a kiosk on weekends if you forget your picnic basket. There is a huge playground, all under shade cloth, with a steadily growing collection of equipment for the kids - including the Liberty Swing, a special swing for children in wheelchairs to ride, a nice touch although I'm yet to see it in use. There's a big spiders web on a stick for climbing, a number of swinging things that spin around (one with rather comfy chairs dangling from a frame shaped like two big bat wings - not that I'm a big kid at heart or anything), swings, see saws - there's hours of screaming and running around like a mad thing here, and then the kids can have fun on the playground too. :) There's fish in the water - mostly small minnows of some sort, but bigger fish can be spotted at times if you're feeding the ducks. Lots of trees provide shady areas for the picnic and bbq crowd - there's a few big structures and pavilions, too, if it's wet. BBQ's are electric and plentiful. Thorndon Park is used for a number of gatherings for the local community, including Campbelltown Proud Day, a celebration of all that there is in the local area, a big Christmas celebration starting with a parade and ending in fireworks and carols. This is one of my favourite spots for a stroll - many a time I stopped in on the way home from a hectic day in the office and had a wander right round the lake. Calm, peaceful and serene - a world apart from the kids playground on a busy weekend. Recommended.

I'm not talking about the usual three meter metal structure that you see at a lot of playgrounds, and in its own right, is a lot of fun. I'm talking about a real swinging, cable, go-from-up-high-and-then-lower flying fox! As I was leaving a car pulled up with 2 girls about aged 9-10. They burst out of the car doors yelling "Yay! I LOVE this playground!" I wiped a small tear from my eye (joke) and walked away smiling. This is what playgrounds should be about. They should be a place where children laugh and run and play and balance and fall over, and try again, and get better at doing things every time they go there. The girls ran straight over to the flying fox and I can imagine they would have been there for quite some time. This playground also has a sheltered seating area in between the flying fox and the other playground equipment. And when we turned up it was nice and quiet with no one else there. Not for long..... We had barely started eating when two dads rock up with their daughters (4 of them) for school holidays play obviously. Nice to see. They put sunscreen on and then ran straight to the flying fox. They took it in turns and did not stop or even look at any other play equipment. And the screams from 4 young girls on that type of equipment. Serious headache. So when we finished lunch my son went on the playground for a while and we both had fun with the spinning thing (even tho part of it was broken when we went, come to think of it two of the lights on the pathway were broken too). In the end I said to him let's go, you can go on the flying fox another day. I had warned him as soon as they got out of the car that if he wanted a go he better put his food down and go now before they get there, but he decided food was more important at the time). Plus another group came down as well with their cricket stuff and played on the grassed area. o it quite a popular place and we will probably visit there again one day so he can have a shot on the flying fox. Fifth star must be with the toilets because they aren't here either :-(

The shaded playground is a great set up. There's a lot of different equipment for older children and would suit Primary School aged children. In my view, it's a shame the two playgrounds aren't closer together, at least on the same hill. There are toilets at the beginning of the park...not too far for little children to walk but it is right next to the car park. I would hazard to guess that there hasn't been a weekend go by when there hasn't been someone using…read morethis playground/park. It gets a lot of visual attention from people driving by so you've probably seen it in your travels. There is a relatively new car park down Evans Ave but there's still parking down Norman Walk also. A small agility playground has been set up near the Evans Ave car park. There are also swings here and the rest of the play equipment is just a short hop, skip and a jump across the bridge. The playground in the main area is entirely rubber floored and is a cute place for toddlers to hang out. Toilets are close at hand and so is a sheltered table/chair area. At the time I was here, there were about 8 men in Parks and Wildlife uniforms on and I didn't feel like asking them to smile so unfortunately there's no specific photo of that area. You may be able to see it in the background of other photos though. There's also a rotunda available but it's purely shelter, no seating or tables (BYO!). It's a diverse park in terms of structure, shape and options which should make it accessible to pretty much anyone. We used to come here to play on the playsets, later to have a kick, to go for runs along Brownhill Creek, smoke clandestine cigarettes, and then later still have picnics and chill out with friends. It's hard to call it an actual reserve considering it's mostly just a big space of lawn spotted with benches, play equipment and a rotunda with a creek running through it. Yet, it's a nice place to relax in the shade of a massive gum, and super easy to access.
