I went to Langlitz for a visit on Steve's behalf. He was getting some customized leather pants and jackets made. To make a customized order they are about a year out before your order is completed. A deposit is required in order to continue the order towards it's completion. Then as the time draws closer you go in so your measurements will match with what they make for you. There is a lot of leather jackets already for sale in which you can immediately purchase providing you find a fit that is good for you. Being a clothes horse myself I could easily place an order as well but I don't have anything specific in mind to pursue that at the moment. It was a lot of fun browsing around and I loved the autographed picture of one of the band members from the Lunachicks that apparently purchased a leather garment here at one point! read more

Stopped in on a Thursday morning after arriving from Phoenix with an old, heavily used item that needed repair. Told the gentleman who helped me that I was leaving on Sunday, but that they could take their time in repairing the bag and ship it back to me. Awesome place- the jackets they make here are custom, super high quality and super super heavy. I was really stoked I got to see the shop.

I purchased a leather motorcycle jacket at Langlitz before most of the readers here were born. The zippers and lining is getting a bit beat up but the jacket itself is in near perfect condition. It was not at all inexpensive.... I think I paid ~ $600 for it which was when $600 was real money. I'm sure the same jacket would go for over $1k today. Langlitz says that they will repair their own jackets and I've been meaning to take it by for a "tune-up" for several years. But I really hate to part with it. Sure, you can buy a much cheaper leather jacket elsewhere and if you are a new rider prone to road rash then you may not want to be wearing such an expensive jacket anyway. But as a life-long Biker, Langlitz really is as good as it gets. I was surprised they had what I wanted, in a perfect fit size, right off the rack. But that was many decades ago. Founded in 1947, Langlitz is regarded by many as the best manufacturer of motorcycle jackets in the world. The company is still run by the second generation of the same family, and all the jackets are made on the premises. The styling is very traditional and strongly focused on the US market: the leathers can be made with thickly quilted and padded arm and shoulder protectors, but they do not include the removable body armour that is normally found in European leathers. Think Marlon Brando in The Wild One, but in in a heavier quality leather, and you've got it. Their racing leathers are more cafe racer style (think: Ace Cafe c. 1955) but made in equally heavyweight leather. Understandably, their main customers tend to ride Harley Davidsons and similar traditional motorcycles rather than sports bikes, although they do make racing leathers as well. That said, they have customers all over the world, including both Europe and the Far East. Their popularity is such that, at times, the waiting lists vary from a month to several months for made to measure items. There is a limited choice of designs for both jackets and trousers (jeans and motorcycle breeches), although you can have all sorts of accessories added such as extra pockets, detachable fur collars and epaulettes, if you so choose - all of which are detailed on the website. They offer a range of heavy duty cowhides and goatskins. The 'build' (stitching, zips, etc) is second to none - I have no doubt my jacket will long outlive me, however long that is! Most of their customers order jackets made to measure by mail order: they keep a range of stock size jackets in the shop but, given the cost, most go for the made-to-measure option. The company provide you with a very detailed measuring chart and lots of instructions, which need to be read carefully. It's is worth taking these seriously as, once shipped to the UK, it's hard to send them back for alterations. (Thanks to the cost and hassle of shipping through customs at both ends). If you are in the US on holiday and thinking of buying a jacket, a trip to Portland to get measured up before you leave would be a good idea: you can also do a tour of the workshops at the same time. They are very happy to discuss any queries (including shipping issues) over the phone - I can vouch for that: in fact, customer service is second to none, in a very old fashioned (and good) sort of way. The website lists pages of accolades and testimonials from satisfied customers. It's only fair to point out that all this quality and service means that the leathers are seriously expensive: expect to pay around £700 - depending on the sterling-dollar (or Euro-dollar) exchange rate. It's worth waiting until the home currency is strong before ordering! And don't forget that UK Customs will add on a stiff set of import taxes on arrival. I just couldn't have been treated more friendlier. At this time they have a long wait for getting a jacket made, and the price is high to get a jacket made, but I am seriously impressed by them. Great quality, great customer service and a great product. Their pocket columbia jacket fit me off the rack and the goat hide that they use is super thick, but at the same time almost lambskin like in softness. No break-in needed. Goat hide is also naturally waterproof or very resistant so it's good to have in the PNW. The belt is also extremely high quality and you could probably use it to tow loads. Wait times for custom pieces can be pretty long in the busy season though. They also do not publish sizing information on their standard sizes, which would be somewhat helpful. Expect big $$$$$ prices too. On a side note there's also some type of fetish community following for this brand so be forewarned when searching about Langlitz on Youtube lol. read more

I've been looking and lurking on numerous fine product sites for months now trying to find what I have long referred to as a Garrison Belt. I've studied Popov, Hanks, Boston and numerous sources but kept getting drawn back to Langlitz. Theirs is slightly wider than usual at 1.75" and their brass hardware seemed intensely sturdy. When I made the step to order their in store sales rep Scott noted that it would just be best if I measured my waist and use that sizing rather than a standard belt size reference. I did that and via e mail made my order. The black belt was delivered relatively fast compared to an equally stunning small belt bag I'd previously ordered. The Langlitz Garrison is stunning. it will definitely last FOREVER and the sizing assist was perfect. I only wish I could visit the shop and get measured for a motorcycle jacket to replace my workout Schotts Perfecto. Maybe someday and if I do visit tou can be sure my pants will be beyond secure. This place is great! I went in to put $$ on my boyfriends leather pants that were on layaway and I was greeted by the owner who offered me something to drink. Paying $ on the layaway was easy. I ended up buying a few coffee mugs one for me and one for the BF. It was really cool to see the leather being worked on. The workers work on the leather right there, not in china, not in thailand, but right there!!! I can't wait to get my own leathers from these guys, someday! Back in the early 60s, Langlitz was the only company to buy leathers from. I borrowed a set from a friend to use for a while before I got drafted in 65. When I got back in 69 I got into riding again and ordered a pair of their competition breeches and wore them in east coast enduros. They weren't treated too well and over the years got wet, muddy and even survived a fire that my family perished in. The pants were about the only piece of clothing that survived. About 10 years ago I ordered a goatskin Cascade jacket in dk. brown with quilted shoulders and elbow patches. I also sent the pants back for some small repair and some size adjustment. My exhaustive research determined that Langlitz still makes the very highest quality handmade riding leathers available in the United States--and perhaps the world, judging by their celebrity and international clientele. Lewis Leathers in England is renowned at a similar price point, but Langlitz also happens to be situated in my hometown of Portland, Oregon. I had read about all the international customers whose made-to-measure garments were produced with an extremely high success rate using the "foolproof" Langlitz instructions. I was pretty sure that I'd also need my jacket made to measure but thought I'd stop in to see what they had in stock. I was greeted at the door and offered a beverage, asked if I was a rider (I'm not) and was accurately sized by eye. Being a traditionalist with great affection for the classic Motor Patrol look of yore, I tried on several models of the Columbia, including one slightly used example being sold at almost a third of the new price. The cowhide was stunningly heavy--like wearing iron--and I know if I were a rider I would be well armored against any abrasive damage if I went down on a bike. The goatskin was delightfully soft yet thick and substantial and more practical for my purposes. Ultimately I selected a 10-pocket Columbia with epaulettes and the Sam Browne Belt with shoulder strap. The quilted padding on the elbows and shoulders was a popular option, but I liked the cleaner look without. They have a huge selection in stock and some incredible deals are on offer. It was unreal to get precisely what I wanted off the rack and walk out wearing something out of a dream. Langlitz customer service is as you would find in a high-end tailor's salon, only the garments are in leather. Everything is made by hand. Two men were building jackets right there in the showroom. This stuff is built to last and completely practical, from the brass snaps and zippers to the thick solid leather belts and precise stitching. The sleeves will NOT ride up once you zip them. These garments are of a different era and design aesthetic purposefully rooted in the 20th Century. They are not cheap but amazing deals are to be had, particularly if you can visit their one and only location. I found every combination of options on the jacket I wanted in several sizes (45, 46, 46L) and lengths that fit me--right there, hanging on the stock racks. Plenty of inventory to choose from. For form and function, Langlitz Leathers are in their own category of handcrafted perfection. If you can afford it--they have payment plans--you owe it to yourself to partake in peerless quality and craftsmanship that will faithfully serve you for decades to come. This is such a hidden gem in our city. Langlitz has been doing leathers since 1947 and it appears their dedication to quality since 1947 still goes on these days. I dropped by on a suggestion of one of my coworkers about this place that makes custom leathers but he's never been there. I go there and i realized that this isn't the right shop for me. I ride street sport bikes but their style is more of that vintage old cafe racer style. A bit disappointed but still impressed to see their shop. the greatest thing is you can see the staff there hand making people's orders and you know that this is a local shop. no outsourcing no cheap labor from a land far away just skilled craftsmen working at what they are good at. Today I got word that my custom jacket and western pants will be shipped soon. This is the realization of a dream! Langlitz is the leader, period. Tip - put in a deposit well before your order to shave down the production wait - I visited early August and will get my gear six weeks later. But whatever the wait, you're getting the best. Scott, Bennie, John and everyone there was great to work with. Pricey? You bet. But good leathers can save you from thousands of dollars in a mishap - and you have the benefit of the classic look found no where else. They have wallets and key holders and smaller item plus a consignment section- I got some great Wesco boots to take home while I waited for my new gear. Ok, So I bought a custom Langlitz jacket about 3 years ago, and was looked after like a VIP even though I just run a pub....in Australia. Yes...shelled out my cash all the way from Oz even with a terrible exchange rate to get a decent jacket, put some of my own personality in it, and hopefully get a jacket without skulls and flames and logos all over it. It wasn't cheap, but neither is caviar or a Ferrari. I met a dude called Scotty, who looked after me. It was all on the phone and email. My first jacket was a masterpiece, I get comments everywhere I go. So I doubled up and went for the second one. At this stage I'm sending Scooter Xmas cards from Oz and to the team aswell. These guys are amazing. I now have 2 amazing jackets. One lighter goat skin retro number, and a heavy hitting bad bad leroy brown number in heavy cow. These guys are amazing, small price to pay for genuine after sales service, true mateship, and your own safety. I honestly wouldnt bother going anywhere else. You can do lay away, the phone lines are always open, they are sincere, genuine, funny folk who absolutley care. I am working class with an old but not Classic Evo harley and a 98 Nissan Pathfinder that works in a pub. For me, it was a genuine investment. I now consider Scotty, Benny, and John to be mates. I send postcards from Australia to the, all the time. My kids and I all own Langlitz t shirts and wallets, and life's good when Langlitz is around. I'm glad Portland has a truly American company still, as I have never seen one (being born in the 90's) until now. Workers are actually making their products right in front of you. The highest quality leather you can buy. The only downside is the price, which is very expensive, but I'm not complaining too loudly. You get what you pay for by all means and I'm more than happy to pay full price. All of their work is custom, so if something doesn't fit after they make it, it does on the used or misc rack. That's where I got my vest. Fits me perfectly and at a huge discount. It's practically brand new, and I can live with the fact that it has someone else's name in it.
