I was told that without a receipt, phone number, or account lookup, there were no options available -- not even an exchange or store credit. What made the experience especially disappointing was not the policy itself, but how it was communicated. When I expressed concern, the associate stated that the policy had changed three years ago, implying that I should have known this. As a customer, that felt dismissive -- I don't work here, and policies like this aren't always obvious. When I suggested that customer feedback should be shared with management, particularly since policies are often shaped by in-store experiences, the response was simply, "I just work here," with no acknowledgment or empathy for the situation. I fully understand that employees must follow company policy. However, I would expect a brand like Zara to train staff to show basic empathy, take some ownership of the customer experience, and communicate policies with professionalism and understanding. A little acknowledgment goes a long way.
