I was introduced to transformational thinking through Landmark Education. I have been involved since 1994 on and off. I completed the curriculum for living (3 courses: Forum, Advance course and Self-Expression and Leadership). There were times that I hated Landmark and swore off it, but on reflection it's because I did not want the truth, it was better to complain as it required no action. I will admit, the worst part is the pressure you feel to bring guest or to sign up for another course. The best part: Before Landmark--I had an abusive childhood, and denied my right to an education. I was married, 2 children, no education and no work history, I was 30 and married for 12 yrs. After completing the Forum, I decided to leave my marriage (for the better), completed my BA, Masters and Doctorate. I traveled the world (45 countries) and just released my first book "Why Can't I Be Happy: From Self-Hate to Self-Love available on amazon and B&N. In the book I mention what my child abuse and how Landmark help me to reframe my trauma allowing me to forgive, have compassion and empathy and even led me to form my relationship with God. As someone who has completed the Landmark Forum and a 10-week seminar, and has yet to achieve my "transformation", here is my one piece of advice to anyone interested in going to an introduction session but unsure if they want to do the Forum: LEAVE YOUR CREDIT CARD AT HOME! It's a prolonged, high-pressured sales pitch that makes you feel pathetic if you don't make an impulsive, large, and non-refundable purchase. (Yes, you'd get a discount by signing up when they say to, so feel free to ignore my advice). During the Forum, they pressure you into signing up for the Advanced course, as well as to bringing guests to the intro session they'll have Tuesday evening. This way, your friends and family get the high-pressure sales pitch too! You get a free 10-week seminar upon completion on the Forum, which is a means to practice the "technology" of Landmark. A large portion of that seminar is pressuring you to bring guests to the next session, to register for the Advanced Course and pay on the spot, and to register for another seminar and pay on the spot. If you miss a session, expect to be ruthlessly contacted by the seminar leader or volunteers. My seminar leader (a volunteer who treated Landmark like a religion) had me on the phone for an hour after I told her I changed my mind about signing up for another seminar. These people are extremely skilled at making you feel vulnerable. They'll say that continuously attending Landmark and "enrolling" others is the only way to open up possibilities in you life. Picking on your vulnerabilities to get you to stay with Landmark and pressuring you to recruit people is why people call it a cult. STAND YOUR GROUND. I give 2 stars because there are definitely pro's to Landmark. It's shows you new angles of looking at your life (though you don't need to devote countless hours to understand it). Also, you get to experience opening up about your personal problems with a lot of different attentive people. I've always been open to anything that will enhance my life and my business, thus have done a number of programs over the past 20 years (I'm 41 now). I did the Forum recently, based on really glowing recommendations from people I admire and trust. I didn't connect well with it, but I witnessed a range of benefit in other people (from powerful, honest personal "transformation" to simply greater confidence and honesty). I think that for $525 it's a great deal of useful information and coaching. And if you're one of the people who turns their life around because of this, well, it would be cheap at twice the price. That being said: I do find the institution itself, as well as the structure in which they presented the information, unpalatable. But the "don't do it it's a cult" rants on the internet are way overblown. It's a business that wants you to lock into its methodology so you keep contributing (time and/or money), and they are up front about it. Some people get as passionate about the methodology as they might about a cult, I guess, but there's no being-locked-in-a-basement-and-forced-to-cry stuff. And even if it WERE a cult, it would be a fairly innocuous one. Its fundamental message (as I perceive it) is self-empowerment through awareness of, and generosity to, yourself and your fellow human beings. If only most religions were as successful at conveying this message as this for-profit organization... Since this IS Yelp, I'll do a little facility-reviewing :) The Quincy center is easy to get to: not far off 93, right across from a T stop, and there's ample parking. The building is in good repair, has well maintained restrooms, and feels safe and well-lit at night. I don't believe it's possible to give a higher rating for any sort of education or life coaching than 5 stars. I can give it 5 stars, pay them the course tuition, but what I've learned from the Landmark Forum and the Integrity seminar has done nothing less than changed my life. I used to consider myself, well adjusted, accomplished, etc. Yet when I looked at all the hardships in my life I see them as a "rite of passage" in order to achieve success and what I wanted in life. I could not have been more wrong about my assumptions, as they were based upon a half-ass view of whats possible in life, in our relationships and in my personal perceptions. Through just the forum alone, my life view has changed, for the better .. and the tools they provide for literally transforming oneself into living possiblity are nothing less than unprecedented. It's been nearly 4 years since I first took the Landmark Forum, weekend course, which included a free 10-session weekly seminar on, living a life of integrity. Although I have not attended the advanced course, I feel that I have received incredible benefit out of my participation in the Landmark Forum. I saw myself from an entirely new perspective and the self-awareness techniques I learned to manage everyday situations continues to be available to me as needed. At the time, I was the president of a midsized Website development agency and quite unsatisfied in my role. The Monday morning after I attended the Landmark Forum weekend course, I chose to step down from my position as president and launched a new company. stay away. if a friend or a family member tries to guilt you or otherwise manipulate you into going to the free introduction (which doubles as a sales pitch), refuse. if you go, you will only feed their dependency on Landmark, which they would benefit from breaking off as sharply and quickly as possible. if Landmark has caused you to get hooked on their courses or to volunteer for them, I will tell you that you could benefit from breaking off as sharply and quickly as possible and resist all manipulative attempts to draw you back in and give Landmark more of your time and money. read more

I took 3 landmark classes that qualified me to take the Introduction Leader Program, their self-styled flagship course. While the lessons on integrity, responsibility, personal excellence were incredible and the overall theme of learning to manage your own ego was great, Landmark is not a solution for all problems in life. Anytime you pointed out anything that you think was not done well or could have been different or better, the manager tells you that it's just your ego acting up and you should "get off it" and move on to the next task at hand. Like any organization, there are 2 kinds of people. On the one hand, there are people at landmark who are there to learn a few things, enjoy themselves and go home. Then, there are the ones who drink the kool-aid hook, line, and sinker. They remind me of church people. They are nice on the surface but woe be to the infidel who contradicts their beliefs. It's definitely not a cult, because you are free to come and go as you please, but there is always an overwhelming amount of peer pressure to buy into everything that's going on. They are a corporation after all. This is what corporations do. There's also this aspect of some courses where they have you call people off these little white cards. They are the ones who went to an introduction and indicted an interest. You spend hours doing this. It's free inside sales and businesses development for your center because the landmark centers all over the world are in competition to see who can get the highest enrollment. They make it sound like some noble mission to save humanity. It's just sales. A lot of SMART people in my group complained about this aspect of it and when leadership was challenged on the no-pay issue, their response was a very weak "well, consider it further training we are providing you..." yeah, I thought it was a BS response as well. I'd recommend trying the forum, their flagship course. You'll learn some stuff about yourself and be able to make a few things in life better. But, like anything else, it's not a cure-all and DO NOT get wrapped up with the overly enthusiastic "churchy" "landmark for life" crowd. They're groupies. Nothing more. Final story before I go... One day, I invite a guy I know from my Landmark center to lunch. My wife, who has not done landmark, was there. As we talk, it comes out that she has not done landmark. This clown immediately launches into a diatribe about how landmark rocketed his relationship with his wife to the next level and how if she doesn't do Landmark, our marriage will stay stuck and never flourish and all this other happy horses--t not worth mentioning. My wife is an intelligent, polite woman with her doctorate, so she gave this idiot the courtesy of letting him finish his spiel about how much better our relationship would be if we only signed up for more landmark. Now, pause the action. I promise you WILL run into morons like this guy all over the landmark education landscape. Under the guise of being "fully self expressed", there are many, many antisocial and antagonistic comments made under the guise of helping someone. This was one example. I have never spoken to this person again nor would I. His remark was beyond inappropriate. His wife is a fool for being married to such an arrogant prick who thinks it's his job to go around Boston snd tell people how to run their marriages. Like I said... if you can stay away from the overzealous little jerks that populate a lot of the landmark world, youll be alright. There are some decent lessons. And everyone has a radically different experience, so it's a coin flip. But then again, so is everything else we do in life. Good luck. read more

I have found benefit to this program but I do have issue with their refund/rescheduling policy. They claim to be easy with refunds or rescheduling but that's not what I've found. I've tried to reschedule one forum this month to take it instead in December, I'll be out of the country. I let them know this back in August I would be out of the country but they said it would cost me $2xx.00 to reschedule.Even though I wanted to do the class in December. I do enjoy the learning I have experienced with them so far. Just not very happy with their policy when it comes to scheduling. read more

For roughly 5 years I've taken numerous courses at the Boston Landmark center, and I've spent many hours as a person who assists on the courses and at the center. The coaching, practices, ideas, and work have made a significant difference in the way I live. Through the programs, I've spent days, months, and even years inquiring into things like: - Where am I a person of integrity, and where am I not? What does it cost me when I'm not a person of integrity, and what value do I get when I am? - Where am I inauthentic in life? It's some of the most meaningful, impactful, and life-affirming work I have ever done, and two of the many results I've created out of doing the work are: - Switching from a software engineering career to a corporate team coaching career. I now get to make a difference in the quality of people's work-lives every day, and I am immensely more fulfilled. - Creating a amazing relationship with an amazing woman where we use numerous tools we've practiced in Landmark's program to continually create a relationship of love, partnership, connection, and fun. As for Landmark Forum graduates sharing about the Landmark Forum with people who haven't taken the course, and/or graduates inviting people to introductions about the Landmark Forum, here's what I have to say...If you REALLY take on the courses/programs as designed (do all the homework as designed, fully participate in course exercises, try on whatever coaching you receive before disputing it, etc.), it might be some of, if not THE most difficult work you've ever taken on. The work will challenge some of your most deeply entrenched truths about life, people, yourself, relationships, what's possible, what's socially acceptable, etc, so you can imagine how that might be extremely uncomfortable. That discomfort can turn people off. However, if you look at any person that has accomplished something truly EPIC, they almost definitely had to persist through an immense amount of discomfort. As a comparison, I always think of the mental and physical training one has to go through if they want the accomplishment of being a NAVY SEAL. Some people are completely turned off, maybe even disgusted by that type of intensity, discomfort, and brutality associated with what it takes to become a SEAL. However, I am 100% sure that when those people make it through the training and reach their goal, it is one of the most life-affirming, exciting, fulfilling, and amazing experiences. Sometimes, if not most of the time, Landmark's work is a little like that. It takes something to do it, but if you can persist through the discomfort, you will generate some of the most fulfilling, exciting, and life-affirming results you've ever seen. When people do that, it's an amazing experience. They love sharing about it with their friends and family. They want others to experience it, just like when people can't wait to take a friend to an awesome movie they just watched. Similarly, people consistently walk away from Landmark's work genuinely caring more about others and the world. Landmark's work consistently makes a significant difference in the quality of people's lives, so if you're a person who all of a sudden has a enhanced level of caring for the people around you, there is a natural urge to want the people in your life to go through the experience of the Landmark Forum so that they can also benefit the quality of their life. So, if you're ever annoyed or frustrated with someone that's sharing about the Landmark Forum, or inviting you to an introduction about the Landmark Forum, just know that they're coming from a place of love and caring. They want the whole world to have the amazing, life-affirming, fulfilling, and joyous experiences they've had by doing the work, and they just want to share their happiness with you. I have a friend who strongly encouraged me to do the Boston Landmark Forum. I went to the open house and was not impressed with staff or the organization. I recognize that Landmark is like EST, Actualizations, Insight and other high intensity in your face gestalt workshops. I have done a lot of personal growth work thru Actualizations and other sources over many years. However, I wasn't prepared for the pathetic lessons on responsibility, personal best and integrity which I learned long ago. There are too many people, including my friend who have drank the Kool-Aid. Meaning, it is their church or there is no church. Don't get me wrong, this is a cult and one can leave but these folks are surface nice but I pity the poor person who contradicts beliefs. My friend paid for this experience. I have to say I am glad I didn't waste my own money. She was so insistent, I said then you pay for it. Truth be had, I do have life problems but they are best handled as such. There are many practitioners and workshops available that do not berate, are better organized and frankly have trainers that are more balanced personally in their own lives. read more

After having attended 1 graduation and 1 info session, which have the exact same format, I am absolutely certain that Landmark Forum is a complete scam. I simply could not believe how many people fall for this stuff. The leader emphasized the 'miraculous' results that you WILL get from attending Landmark courses. 3 days and your life is forever transformed because it is a "miraculous experience." I've known diet pills to made the same miraculous claim yet fail to deliver. All I saw were people who had issues with other people in their lives and somehow Landmark turns the problem onto them. This way, the person who sought help for some issue in their life, is made to feel that THEY are the problem, not the other person, no matter how awful the other person is portrayed. If the complainer is made to feel as though he/she is the actual problem and only Landmark can have them 'create the possibility' of becoming a new person, the complainer feels the need to stay and work on themselves and the initial problem no longer exits because they have been making the other person wrong the entire time. Bam! It was you all along. My spouse has fallen for this hocus pocus business and unfortunately, there is no way of getting him out. He has been convinced that he is this new person. In one respect he is. Now he speaks the LMF language yet I see nothing new about him. He has gone through all courses and has spent thousands of dollars to do so and is hoping to become a forum leader one day. It is quite unfortunate. All I heard was 'if your priorities are straight, if you truly want to change, if you want to reach your full potential in life, you have to do it through LMF because there is NO OTHER way to do so because there is nothing like it.' 3 days and you are cured. 3 days and you have opened all the doors before you. It is unreal that 100+ people pay $575 dollars for a 3 day seminar. That is over $86,000 in their pocket in 3 days!!!! You are offered water and cookies. Where in the heck does all that money go? How much do the leaders make? Maybe my husband should become a leader after all. read more

When people ask me "What's Landmark?" I call it "enlightenment with training wheels." Without too much semantic wrangling, I think of enlightenment as a state of awareness characterized by the absence of projection, an experiencing the universe without the need to label said experience. In a sense, Landmark takes this a step further by teaching how to use language to manifest the realities we want to see for us and for the world. Whereas traditional enlightenment is attained through meditation, Landmark transformation is attained by using language to undo our assumptions about ourselves and the world. What's left is who and what we create when we are awake. Needless to say I recommend Landmark to everyone. Cult-like? I'm convinced that the charge of "cult-like" comes from 2 camps: those who react to transformation itself (because misery loves company and hates happiness) and those who feel pressured to attempt to transform others. I understand where both come from - the thing is, once one gets transformation one wants to give it away to everyone. If you don't get it, you can't give it - even if you claim that's what you want. Chances are you've heard about Landmark from someone who loves you and you've come on here to talk yourself out of doing it. Consider coming to an introduction - it will cost you nothing. My boyfriend and I were supposed to go to the forum but had to cancel because of more important commitments that we previously made. Before we signed up for the class we were told numerously about how you can get a refund at any time and that there would be a table outside of the forum just for refunds. However that was not the case. We were treated horribly by the financial advisor Kathleen Peterson who was extremely rude and unprofessional to us when we called the first time and then continuously avoided us and our calls until we threatened to bring the better business beurau into this and all of a sudden "her phone was broken but is working now!" . I dont know if the forum works but it has for people I know but the fact of how horrible Mrs. Peterson was to us and how hard it was to get a refund is enough for me to never want to go back. If anyone is interested in the forum, make sure you are completely ready to do it and that it works on a weekend that you have completely free or else you might not be able to get your $500 back!
