I was so touched at a recent visit to Nazarethville, I was brought to tears. But in a good way…read more This facility was founded in 1974 and sponsored by the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. It is open to all, but there are many retired nuns living here. On a side note- nuns do not receive any pension when they retire and many work as teachers and nurses, well into their 80's. It's a hard life. I believe that quality of life is the most important aspect of maintaining your health into a ripe old age. The combination of a home-like atmosphere, offering wholesome living, balanced nutritional programs with menu selection, medication supervision, social events and entertainment are what I believe makes Nazarethville so incredible. I was there on a Saturday with my seven year old niece. Her entire class was there to assist the residents in a lively session of bingo. The school requested that we bring a little gift- to be given as prizes to the winners. Apparently tissue is in big demand, because it is not provided and must be purchased by the residents. In addition to this, many people brought little stuffed animals and puzzle books and such. To see the joy and watch the faces of the residents light up when the children arrive is truly wonderful. The children enjoy themselves as well. It's really a win-win combination. Whenever the residents won at bingo, they were able to choose a gift. Although they desperately needed the Kleenex, they all chose the stuffed animals, and then the books and always gave the prize to the child that was assisting them. I can happily tell you that they organize these type of events on a monthly basis. They also have occasions where (well trained) dogs come in with their trainers for a visit. Another big hit! The facility is spotless and adorned with the most beautiful and inspiring artwork.- all painted by a resident. Sister Jolanta. Her beautiful paintings emit a magical light- similar to the work of Thomas Kinkade. She was an art teacher for many years, but I don't believe you can learn to paint like that. It's a gift from God. So remember, if you find any tissue on sale, buy a little extra and stop in Nazarethville. You'll be happy that you did : )

Sister Lucille and her staff are dedicated beyond belief. As a pedistridc RN for nearly 30 years - I marvel at those who dedicate themselves, selflessly to the needs of the elderly. My mother is at Lee Manor now receiving care. My family's experience has been a mix of good but…read moremostly bad. The first month my mother was at Lee Manor, she was on the 1st floor. This floor is clean and welcoming it is staff appropriate number of residents to staff for the most part. She was later moved to the 4th floor due to her medical coverage would no longer cover 1st floor care. My mom was sent to Medicaid floor. Our family understood as we didn't have the money to cover the co-pay $$$$for 1st floor. The 4th floor is dirty, and smells of urine and poop once you step out of the elevator. Residents are left in dinning hall for hours at a time. Some are slouched over in tables asleep or falling out of chairs. When my mom presses the call button it can take up to 2 and a half hours for a response from staff. Staff can be rude and incentive. We have to be present to get my mom the attention she needs and physical go get a CNA or nurse to assist with care after an hour of having pressed call button. I do not recommend this facility for your loved one's unless.... They are getting care or residency on the 1st floor.

My husband was transferred from Lutheran General to Lee Manor for rehab. for 2 weeks…read more He stayed on the 1st floor and he was alone in his room. We liked the fact that the place was clean, it didn't smell of urine at all, his room was clean ,the cleaning crew came daily to pick up the garbage ,change the sheets and cleaned his room several times a week as well as his bathroom. We also liked the fact that he was picked up 5 days a week to the exercise room to work on his major problems. They also gave him a bath twice a week. The entire staff was very nice and helpful, both medical and office. I don't know what's going on the other floors or the long term care situations? I can only emphasis on our experience. Yes, the food could be a little better and the response when one press the call button could improve!

Brookdale Des Plaines, IL 3-16-25…read moreAfter almost 2 years of residency my opinion Brookdale Des Plaines remains the same...... VERY high marks for both residents and management with staff. In spite of a madcap rush of 40+ new residents caused by the abrupt closing of another "senior" facility up the road, management rose to the occasion over a 4-5 month period to get everyone housed and safely moved in. Toss in another round of Covid, the Flu and artic winter temps, the Holiday decorations were once again Rockefeller Center like. Residents long-term and new have blended together on a mostly joyful. and very friendly fashion. Management continues their top down approach to keep things running smoothly Access to top rated reliable medical care is always a growing need as we all get older. And when buying a house any good realtor will say.... LOCATION - LOCATION - LOCATION!!! This facility has it in spades as well as a an IN-HOUSE reliable bus service to get you to and fro. BDP SHOULD BE at the VERY TOP of anyone's list as a safe, extremely well managed plus welcoming home for you or your loved one. I invite you to read my previous more extensive reviews, or better yet call BDP and schedule a visit. A long term and well informed marketing team await your call. Again, I am in NO way associated with Brookdale and simply reside here as an 85 yr old slightly disabled male resident. 2 years now and still very happy!!! HOPE to see YOU soon!!!

The type of care in Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy were fantastic. I was there 2 months…read moreand received excellent Therapy. As for care given upstairs, it sucked big time. Residents were treated poorly. When I got there from the hospital I was put in a diaper and then placed in a wheelchair where I stayed for my entire 2-month stay. When I would soil my diaper I would have to wait over 2 hours to have it changed. The night staff was terrible I once called to go to the bathroom and the black Aid told me to go in my diaper and she will change it in the morning. The day consisted of getting up in the morning getting dressed and then having breakfast. After breakfast you would go down to therapy. The therapists were fantastic. After a therapy I would go up to my room and have lunch. I could not go to the lunchroom to eat because it was horrible. You said eating with people who did not want to speak. I asked to have my meals served in my room. As for the food it was horrible unedible and disgusting. The only decent thing to eat on the menu was the pudding. I certainly would never ever recommend this facility to anybody

Do you think i wanted to be there? Food tucked. MY dr would not even go there to check on me. My insurance got me there because I don't have BlueCross. Still care should have been at least up to standard. One night the black nurse just walked out when i told her i needed my diaper changed. The day people were nice. Isabella was great but she pushed the god issue where i knew she was brainwashed. There was a Ukrainian lady that was an angel. Therapy was great. 2 guys were good. Not pushy but knew how to get me going positively. My insurance sucked. Would never extend therapy. Now i lay in bed not being able to stand up without help from my son. I try so hard. It hurts. Can not lock my knees so good. I dont want to live sometimes. Needed at least 1 more week of therapy. Insurance sucks. Should not complain because i have not paid anything even with the back surgery. But i cant walk. Needed more therapy. My crappy insurance kicked me out. Never saw anyone actually from the insurance company, just word of mouth through Alden representative. I will never trust any insurance company again.
