Used this practice for years, always a good experience. Had many procedures and checkups here. Dr Kaufman is always right to the point and can do many procedures right there during a routine visit. I really do not know what all these elitist snobs are talking about on these reviews. Dr. Kristopher Kaufman was polite, professional and right to the point. He gave me a full exam, over several visits I had two lesions frozen off. Dr gave me a full body exam as I requested. Did not try to upsell anything. The only reason I'm writing a review is because I read a review about how Dr. Kauffman points to a spot on your face, tells you that he will test it and then you get hit with large bill. The same happened to me. As I was leaving, he stated that I had a sunspot on my face and that it could be cancerous. Of course, I want to be on the safe side and didn't object. When he took off the skin, he just scraped it off without any anesthesia or something that would ease the pain of getting scraped with a blade. I got good results later on and a $600 bill. I'm not criticizing Dr. Kauffman for his approach, since I suppose it's better to be safe than sorry. But I wanted to validate the other review and let others know what to expect. As far as waiting time, it's generally less than 5-10 mins in the waiting room, less than 5 in the actual room. The staff is busy, but they are a bunch of friendly ladies. The exam room was not sterile, dirty dated wood cabinets, vials all over the counter top. Took all of 30 seconds to misdiagnose a blackhead as a wart. Less than 5 minutes total with me. As I checked in I noticed she had a 9:00, 9:05, 9:10, and so on. If you want a mill, this is your place. I'll gladly pay double to have a doctor slow down to spend time with me and figure things out. I will not be back. I found it unprofessional when I recieved a letter in the mail about her husband running for sherif. I don't even know the man. read more

The office looks extremely old and retro but it's pretty clean and the people are nice. The docs I've seen are also quite old and retro! I'm not opposed to the service they gave me, they seem to listen and answer questions. However, I do have an objection to the "racket" of carrying a can of liquid nitrogen around and blasting everyone's "sun damage". It's happened to me twice with Dr., Kaufman (once on my face, once on my back), and I overheard him doing the same thing to another patient in the room next door while I was waiting for my appointment. It seems like a clever ploy to put a big charge on the patient's bill before we even get to understand or evaluate the treatment option. I heard the woman in the next room say, "Sun damage?? But I almost never go in the sun." JUST SAY NO to the nitrogen blast, until you get more information., read more

This doctor's office was a horror show. When I walked in the nurses and front desk people were loud and were gossiping. And then when I saw a Dr Kris Kaufman, as loud, dismissive, and not helpful at all. I had two visits there and I felt like I paid $60 total for people working there treating the place like it was a playground. Used to be such a good place when it was just Dr. Joseph Kaufman and assoc. Now his son is there and he's arrogant, not professional and didn't event take my lesions off. He just charged me an exorbitant amount of money and never did the work. Told me to come back but charged my insurance company for it. Now I've got a bill for well over $500 and he didn't do anything. So sad this place used to be great. I will NEVER go back and will tell all of my friends who do use Dermatologists not to go there. I even heard his son up at the desk talking loudly to a receptionist about another client. It's sad that he's the one taking over the business now. What a joke. I went here for laser hair removal using a Living Social voucher. I will agree with other reviewers that the place isn't fancy or new--it's a Dr's office from the 70s and 80s (...or 60s?). But it's easy to find, has ample parking, a big waiting area, and the staff at the front are nice. I have been impressed with the results of the laser and would go back for more areas (vs going to yet another place using a random groupon deal). Every time I go, there is a strange person in the waiting room. Never the same one, but always SOMEone. read more

Dr. Green is one of the best doctors I have ever been to. She is incredibly pleasant, thorough, and professional. I have had a few dermatological issues over the past several years, and she has successfully addressed every one of them. I couldn't be more pleased with her and her practice. read more

According to Kauffman he is the top dermatologist in the area...I beg to differ. Pros: Kauffman MEANS WELL, unfortunately he doesn't DO WELL. Cons: Expect at least a 45 minute-1 hour wait EVERY APPOINTMENT, not just sometimes. Even the early morning ones. My last appointment, which was very recently, I waited for OVER an hour. While I was in the doctor's room waiting for him to show up, I could hear him in the next room with another patient, laughing it up for over 20 mins. Umm, this isn't happy hour, your patients have other places to be. Have some consideration. When you finally DO get to see him, he wastes most of the time making jokes. THere's this one he has about "hachoo" or something. When you try to get back on track to discuss why you're there, he's back on the jokes. It's really awful. And most importantly he is a typical CLOSE minded doctor. He knows nothing about new research. When you present him with new information that YOU have found, he dismisses it, saying "well if it's not in the medical books, it's not accurate." That is PROFOUNDLY disturbing. His solution to almost everything is "get good sleep and drink wine." Really??? And finally, he has misdiagnosed me almost every single time I've seen him. Aaaaand to make matters worse, one day I politely questioned the K5 injection he was giving me, I asked about side effects etc and he totally lost his temper and started yelling at me, telling me I worry too much, I just need to trust him. On and on and on. There was a medical intern in the room with us and we were both SHOCKED by his behavior. He is not a doctor, he is a dictator. Your doctor should work WITH you on your health and listen to your concerns. More importantly, at the end of the day it's YOUR health so be proactive, don't be afraid to learn things on your own. If you feel the same way I do, "Dr." Kauffman is not the one for you. I've seen Dr. Wolf once, I think she's his daughter, she was much more pleasant, but she's usually booked like 6-8 weeks in advance. So, do yourself a favor and go elsewhere! read more

Been a patient of Dr. Green's for a few years and will be leaving due to the continued negative interactions with the office staff, in particular the receptionists. They have been consistently rude, talk down to everyone, hang up on people, and provide at best the bare minimum for assistance. They get annoyed when you ask clarifying questions, which is antithetical to customer service. The doctors are wonderful, but the staff are just so rude. read more

I would highly recommend AGAINST this practice. They have shady billing practices, for example - without asking me anything, the doctor clipped a TINY amount of skin off the top of a mole - for a biopsy, apparently - then charged me for outpatient surgery. The explanation "something was removed from your body". Ok... well you NEED TO ASK THE PATIENT and explain it to them!!!! DO NOT GO HERE. read more

Receptionist Debra I believe is her name is very unprofessional. I had an appointment scheduled by her via phone call day prior. I get there after going to the wrong location, and she didn't have me in the system. The wait time was way too long. I'm not sure if the office is like that but I canceled. She asked me the reason for leaving and was rude when I was explaining. Clearly she does not like the job she has, from an attitude in person to one answering the phones. I love Dr. Kaufman. He has a wonderful demeanor, and does a thorough annual skin check for cancer. He truly seems to care about his patients, and told me that if I had any follow up issues after one procedure that I could come back in any time and he would make time to see me. I think most of the problem is the office staff. They are unprofessional and uncaring. The doctors can't keep their appointments on time because they NEVER are close to on time. One understands how some lateness is a problem. Back to the staff, their attitude is always uncaring. Listen to how they don't mention the office name when they answer. This last straw came when the office staff says I was too late to keep my appt. I have a hard time believing the dr wouldn't consider a 2-5 minute appt in case I'm right about the shortness. I suggested waiting and get 2 minutes and leaving if it was more than 2 minutes. The staff refused to tell the dr I was in. Just don't go here. I'm off to find someone better myself and can't bring myself to coming back. read more

B.Y. Had an appointment with Dr. Green, she performed a biopsy and skin culture. I had a large infection 2 days later and asked to get in to see her. They did not have time, never got test results, staff was rude. Had to go to emergent care to get antibiotic prescription. Definitely going elsewhere in the future! read more

DO NOT GO HERE. This place is the biggest dump--I'm frankly surprised people don't end up with more skin conditions when then leave than when they arrived. 1. Dr. Kaufman is completely unprofessional. I consider the dermatologist one of those doctors that is pretty intimate because they are looking at your skin up close and personal. I expect people in the medical field to have somewhat decent hygiene when they are in my personal bubble. Nope--not Dr. Kaufman. I bet he hasn't been to a doctor or dentist in 20 years. Besides his poor dental hygiene, he makes inappropriate comments, doesn't respect patient's time and is manipulative beyond belief. 2. The office is filthy. The "lab" where your skin cells are test for cancer is in the back hallway on a counter cluttered with garbage. The REAL lab is another part of the office that is not used but staged to look like it is a sterile lab in use when inspections happen. The only time the actually office is cleaned and sterilized is when it is inspected a few times a year. 3. I don't even know how Kris Kaufman can consider himself a "doctor". His father paid his way through med school--did he even graduate? Is he board certified? Do your research because apparently anyone can be a doctor if they want to be at Landmark Duke Dermatology. Seriously--if you care anything about your well being, stay away from this dermatologist. It might have been state-of-the-art 50 years but the practice and doctors are all outdated now and it's a miracle the place even passes code. Do yourself and your family a favor and find someone in your network that is board certified and has a clean, sterile office environment. read more

Okay, I gave this place the benefit of the doubt after all of the bad reviews I read. The people in reception are okay - but not the best. The office is insanely busy and honestly, I after waiting for an hour - I didn't think it was really worth the 5-minute consultation I received and a perscription to help me get rid of my minor acne. Anyway - I went to see Dr. Sampson - he is a nice old man - loves to talk. Long story short - I have had a terrible allergic reaction to the medecine he prescribed. When I went back in to see the Dr - he wasn't in so they had me see Dr. Kaufman instead. Dr. Kaufman is nice, prescribed me a new presciption but told me to wait for the rash all over my chest to go away. He said that if it didn't go away, to call him back and he would call in a perscription for me to get rid of it.... Well - it's not a week later and the rash is not going away - in fact, it has gotten worse! I called the office 5 times to see if he could write me the new perscription, and they said "he is getting to it" or "he just got your folder". I told them that this is serious and I am really getting nervous about it - you know what they told me?! "Go to the Emergency Room." Enough said. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Kaufman's for over 10 years. He is an excellent doctor and has considerable experience in the field. I will be leaving his practice, however, based on numerous negative interactions with his office staff. When calling to schedule for an emergency, I was told I would have to wait until August to see the doctor. When I explained that I did not believe the issue could wait until then, the receptionist stated that they treat emergencies like all other appointments. I would give negative stars if I could. Extremely unprofessional. My appointment was at 3 and I arrived at 2:58. I couldn't find th suite so I called them to ask. The lady who picked up the phone put me on hold and the phone eventually hung up on me. The second time I called back she kept telling me I needed to be in the suit at 3 and this am late for my appointment. I tld her I was out on hold and it was not my fault It was now 3:05pm. She started raising her voice and finally hung up on me saying I need to get a new appointment and she can't help me. She was extremely rude!!! No sense of customer service. First and foremost Dr. Kaufman & Dr. Wolfe used my family's personal information for politics. We received a campaign letter in the mail from the entire office apparently Dr. Wolfe's husband Bryan Wolfe is running for sheriff for Fairfax county. We live in the CITY of Alexandria not in Fairfax County so he wasn't even on our ballot. That's lots of campaign money wasted. I would hope that any person who is running for public office would know the city/county lines of the area in which they are running. How embarrassing. This has to be a HIPPA law violation too. As far as the dermatology practice. It's crowded and you have to wait 3-4 months for an appt so if you have something pressing like a rash, cancer scare, or need an injection of cortisone in a cyst forget about it, it's not going to happen. Dr. Sampson has sooner appts but he leaves nice HUGE SCARS that don't fade with time. I'm really not happy with this office and even more so now that they had the NERVE to use my personal information for THEIR own personal gain, disgusting. read more

The doctor (Dr. Kaufman) was personable, but seriously overstepped boundaries. I went for an issue regarding my hands. He spend 5 minutes discussing them then, without asking, started checking out my face. Before I know it, he is scraping at my face. When I asked what he was doing, he down played it, told me that the small spot that he removed doesn't really seem like anything but wanted to be sure. A few weeks later, I get a bill of a few hundred dollars for surgery. Kaufman sucks. I give this purported "Dr" zero stars but this program requires at least one. To be clear my rating is ZERO!!!! The hygiene and professional demeanor are deplorable. There are none! I went to him for a spot on my face. As he was telling me his stupid jokes, he blew his nose, did not change gloves, and did not wash his hands. He also did not inform me of what he was about to do in terms of his procedures. Without even asking me about it, it proceeded to dig into my face. I have been going to Dr. Kaufman on and off for almost 15 years. He is warm, inviting, listens to your concerns and is aggressive in his treatment of your problems. You have to make your appointments several weeks in advance, but he has worked to squeeze me in before when I have had an emergency. read more

I agree with all the terrible reviews of Dr. Kaufmann at this practice. His approach is heavy handed and inappropriate and I'm left feeling like the whole thing is an insurance scam. I wish I had read them before going. The "full body" check up consisted of me pulling my shirt up and him immediately spraying numerous spots on my back, chest and FACE with liquid nitrogen. I've seen many dermos and none had any concerns with my spots, nor would have immediately taken it upon themselves to painfully treat them. When I questioned him he said "well you don't want to have cancer, do you?" Well of course not. He never checked the rest of my body and I was irritated to even pay the copay. Then weeks later I got a bill from insurance. He billed me for removal of both benign and premalignant spots. I've called insurance, his billing office and the main billing office several times. The doctor called me back at my request and stood by what he did. When I pointed out that he billed me (and my insurance) for benign growth removal I reminded him of his cancer comment. He said "well benign and premalignant are synonymous..." Ummm, no sir, they are inherently not, and I know my insurance would agree. He said he'd waive the charge, just send back the bill with a note. I did so, only to receive another bill a few weeks late. I called his office and the billing lady, Carol, said to do the same. So again I submitted the bill with a note. I have now received the bill a third time (with threats of it going to collections) and upon speaking with Carol, she swore no knowledge of the situation and said she'd never received any notes. I'm now submitting a new form she sent to get the charge waived. This entire experience was uncomfortable, irritating and a huge waste of time. GO ELSEWHERE!!!! read more
