I attended the Landmark Forum in August 2016 at this location in Alexandria, VA. This methodology is transformative learning and global education which develops your personal and professional life as well as relationships and other areas of interest. I completed the Curriculum for Living within one year. This is a collection of 3 programs including the Landmark Forum, Seminar Series, the Advanced Course and SELP (Self Expression Leadership Program). I am not the same person I was one year ago. I am becoming the BEST version of me since I started participating in this education. When you get on the court and in the game, amazing things happen in life! The staff truly cares about each person who participates in the programs. They aim to have the highest standards of integrity and challenge their support teams to always improve as well. I have assisted with the office support twice and both times I experienced transformation in major areas of my life. Specifically open communication with my sister and other friends who I had grown distant with. I highly recommend this program to anyone and everyone. You'll never be the same again! I had a revelatory experience in the Landmark Forum, but it bothered me that so much time was spent on promoting growth of Landmark. However, over time I became involved with the Wisdom group of Landnark in the Washington DC region. I found many lovely people in Wisdom. Then leaders of DC Wisdom began perpetuating what I believe were racially discriminatory stories about me (I am white,) the result of which was that I lost a dear friend of many years in a traumatic event. I appealed to Wisdom higher-ups and they spent considerable time with me but never owned the existence of a story and never shared with me to help me understand the events. They chose closing ranks over sharing with me what was so. They could have helped me and themselves take ownership and process the events - as would be consistent with the core of Landmark teachings. Instead they claimed that nothing had happened. They gaslighted me. I know better than that. I believe the DC leaders involved were too valuable to Wisdom for Landmark to risk losing the "leadership" of those individuals, in order to be of integrity with a Landmark newbie and nobody. They chose to abandon the standards of owning what was so and open sharing of what's so with a non-Wisdom-leader. So I believe that racially discriminatory stories about me were spread, resulting in the almost tragedy in terms of loss in my life. Landmark Wisdom has a deep integrity issue. read more

I had a boyfriend who was super excited into this. It didn't seem like something I needed or wanted. I went to a few different introductions and felt pressured to do it. Then I saw this small meek looking housewife who took the courses and had started a non profit and was making a difference in reducing the spread of HIV in Africa. So I decided to just go for it. The Landmark Forum was life altering for me. I really had no idea what a chicken s*** I was. I saw how many times I had let opportunity pass me by. After the course I really started looking at my life and made changes over time that and now I'm crossing off bucket list items... great husband, two kids, two properties, a great job working in an area I'm passionate about... Alright now it's just getting egotistical. Give it a whirl. It's worth the time and money. read more

WOW. Cult. I went in with a super open mind. When I heard the phrase "ANYTHING you want in life can be achieved through Landmark Forum" I realized something was up through this obvious brainwashing/branding. Then, an EMPLOYEE was berated by the moderator for opening a door during the forum. Whoops. How awful. ? The leader was extremely verbally abusive to many of the members, especially a mother of two small children. I stuck up for her a bit in class and that infuriated the instructor. I left after the first 5 hours. That wasn't the end. They called me. The person who called, once getting me on the phone, gave the phone to the instructor. She was livid that I'd left. She told me how closed-minded I was. I told her (respectfully) that I just didn't buy what they were selling in so many words. She then told me, in an effort to embarrass me (didn't work), that she'd share our entire conversation with the class. PRESSURE. COOKER. CULT. Stay away and save some money. I took the Landmark Forum this past weekend...the only thing I can say is, WOW. This is not like anything else I have ever experienced. It's not "informational" learning like we typically are accustomed to, this is "transformational" learning. It's an intense experience. I have a colleague who told me this seminar transformed his business...and his whole life. I was a little skeptical, but he was so adamant and persistant, I thought "Why not?" I saw the amazing things he was doing with his life, and how his business was blowing up. I was amazed at how you can get ANYTHING you want out of life from this experience. I'm not kidding, anything is possible. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to learn to communicate better, make a difference in the world, have better relationships, and clear out any clutter from your past. Took a Self Expression and Leadership program with the company in 2006 and enjoyed it a lot, as well as got some decent lasting tools / insights. Have also participated in other programs in the past. The programs can be insightful and quite effective. It is also possible a program is not particularly effective as this depends largely on the person leading the program/course, as well as other volunteers involved. Reviewed the Self Expression and Leadership Program earlier this year, this time led by another individual, and other coaches (volunteers who get trained to be a coach), Was not impressed / and can't say the program worked for me / was effective. Having said that, I'd recommend the courses and believe they are designed very well and perhaps with considerable research having been done towards creating the courses, while unfortunately can't say there is reliability in terms of the quality of how a given course will be led/executed. read more

Thank you. ** ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I participated in "The Landmark Forum" about 2 years ago and I wanted to share my perspective. As a Large Group Awareness Training (LGAT), it is a very powerful experience; but, in some ways, too much. Participants are asked to open up and share typically private thoughts in small groups with people they've just met; or, If you want, you can step up to the microphone and share in front of the full audience. Many end up (courageously and/or naively) sharing pretty "dark" stories (having been raped, having been abandoned by their parents, struggles with mental illness, etc.). I shared some aspects of me in the small group format, but I never assumed the stage and shared my deepest secrets or fears to a group of strangers. It can be very traumatic (even self-destructive) to open up so drastically over a mere 3-day period. Trained psychotherapists usually work through serious issues gradually and in a safe, private setting. On top of the rather intense content and format, there's the relentless(!) sales and recruiting from seemingly instant friends. Throughout, we were encouraged, even pressured to sign up for more events and to invite others to join as well; the latter, a premature and shameless effort to get gullible newbies to do Landmark's marketing for them. This is the most persistent gripe with Landmark, and it has been for years; but Landmark seemingly chooses to ignore the feedback. People don't want to be guilted, obligated, cornered, or fatigued into signing up for anything that's intense, costly, and time-consuming. I'm glad that I resisted the pressure to sign up for other courses, or hastily invite my friends. All that being said, I am glad I signed up for the 3-day introductory course. Knowing what I know now, I would have made the same decision. Despite the aggressive and confrontational educational and sales techniques (the main reason for my low rating), I experienced some powerful insights: -- Almost everything we do is to look good and avoid looking bad -- We need to be authentic, including being authentic about being inauthentic -- There's what happened and the story/interpretation about what happened -- 3 things constitute our knowledge base: What we know we know (10%), what we know we don't know (30%), and what we don't know we don't know (60%) -- We have maladaptive habits that provide some payoff (e.g., make me right and others wrong, avoid responsibility, etc.); but also have costs (weakened relationships; decreased satisfaction, health, and happiness) I would encourage anyone interested to do some research (e.g., http://goo.gl/V5OS0w; http://goo.gl/0AVf; http://goo.gl/xIPMjV; http://goo.gl/gQFKw8). This controversial company and its courses are not for everyone, which the waiver makes clear. If you decide to attend, strike a good balance between participating in the course and using your natural and healthy mental self-defenses to protect yourself. Just because the people around you (total strangers, remember?) are gleefully signing up for the next course, doesn't mean that you want or have to. And if you choose not to participate, but still want to improve your life otherwise, there are alternatives: other in-person seminars; books, audiobooks, and DVDs; therapy or life coaching; joining a church; journaling; exercise, and meditation. read more

The Landmark Forum is not a cult. It's educational, inspiring, and fun. The weekend course gives people an opportunity to examine the way that they live their lives. It allows you to see new ways to improve your family relationships, your productivity at work, and also let go of traumatic events that are getting in the way. It's for people who want to make a difference for themselves and their loved ones. It's ridiculous to call the landmark forum a cult. It's a 3 day class! Give me a break! read more

Before Landmark Forum I was pretending that everything was ok and the things that weren't would just get fixed somehow over time. I came to the Forum to achieve better communication in my relationship. What I actually accomplished is authenticity in my relationships. I am extremely grateful for this program. The immediate impact in my life has been the healing of past trauma and a new way of being that has transformed me into each moment of my life. If you are thinking about trying this DO IT!!!! Sooo, I happened into to this life transformation one day and... I just wrapped up the Landmark Forum this last weekend. I was way skeptical when a friend of mine tried to get me involved and invited me to one of the perfunctory introduction meetings. I went basically to support him. While there though I found the speaker quite compelling and influential. I was intrigued. Now, get that I am a clinical psychologist and I was definitely sitting there with two minds 1) the observer wondering "what's in it for them?" 2) the average guy with baggage that he wants to unload so he can keep moving forward more freely and happily in his life. For me #1 has been in the driver's seat since I was about 8 or 9 years old. Think kid from divorced family, parent dealing with alcoholism, abuse in the family, yada, yada, yada. So, Mr. Gonna Trust You right off I am not. However, I sat, I listened and I agreed with myself "hey, at least I may pick up some tips on public speaking and techniques to influence people" (yep, the Forum leaders are that good and fun to watch. And the one I ended up with on my weekend was a very gifted speaker). When the "helpers" or "staff" or whatever (if you are getting a hint of derision here, you get the bonus points on perceptiveness) began to probe for my reasons for not enrolling and thoughts on how my life could improve, I began to back away. As the guy who has typically needed to be in control would, I took a week to think on it (I mean I couldn't let them know I was sold, now could I? Had to make it MY choice) and then took the plunge. I have to say the weekend was quite something. Very stimulating and a whole lot of insight into the way I really operate. I'm still chewing on it and, frankly, that little 8 year old is still fighting for his share of space in my head ("you've been duped! you've been tricked!"). However, looking at my actions as a result and the insights and way I view life so far, it has been worth it. Even with my near-pathological doubts the Forum still has pushed me to speak directly, powerfully, and honestly to family I have been estranged from or relating to in a fairly superficial and guarded fashion. Hell, I even got up in front of a room of 300+ people and shared on this! And after words wondered what the hell did I just do! But, I really mean that in a good way. I worried that I sounded like a sales pitch without really intending too. Was I being mind controlled?! Not really. Unless you live like you're 8 and traumatized, of course. This brings me to my next share on this topic. I agree with previous posts and comments on the icky marketing Landmark does. They really do sell it and sell it hard. Sure, they are into it and frankly with me they can't win. If they don't stand behind their program and sell it I wonder why. And if they do I wonder if they are manipulating me. But, in truth they do do it a bit too much. During the forum you chew on some deep stuff and likely get into touch with some feelings you haven't had in a while. You also get to trust and rely on those around you and the leader themselves. When they weave in diatribes on the wonders your life will ascend to if you just take their next course, you feel a bit like you've been slimed. At least you do if you are me. And yes, some of the staff do look like they are right out of Stepford. But, hell, you could say that about a lot of corporations. Still the selling leaves a foul aftertaste. On the whole, the program is very well done though. Don't miss the point. And, as hopefully I've made clear, I can be a pretty tough critic. Ignore the strange staff and focus in on the message and do your level best to open your heart and mind and there is a lot of gold to be mined from the experience. Also, when it comes down to it, its pretty damn easy to just say "no" to these folks. Any time I let on that I didn't want to be pushed, they were for the most part very sensitive to this. I've also gained a new perspective on my own skepticism and the constraints it really puts on me and my life. I new at some level it was there, but like a fish swimming in water just got used to the lens I viewed life through. Now I've made some very helpful connections and am standing much more on the outside of the doubts (although the 8 year old does love a good old fashioned tantrum from time to time). From here I am taking more responsibility for the way in which I limit myself, others and fail to let them into my life. Also, and quite painfully, how I have pushed people away out of my own fear to be hurt again. Sad, yes and there is grief there, but now I really know and it is ok. I now have the power to choose and change. I have the Forum to thank for that. Oh, and yes I did sign up for the next course (The Advanced Course). I have read these past reviews, and I definitely agree that Landmark may not be right for everyone. But the program certainly could help EVERYONE. Landmark was recommended to me, and I can honestly say that I wish I had known about it many years ago. It is NOT a cult, it is NOT Amway, it is NOT a pyramid scheme. It is an opportunity to transform your life if you are willing to trust the process and your leader, stay open-minded no matter what discomfort you may feel, complete all the assignments, and be authentic (you'll get what that means when you participate in the Forum). Yes, it's intense, and now I totally understand the reason for the long hours. The curriculum is brilliantly crafted. If you are ready to take that leap of faith, you will be transformed.
