The restaurant is better than I expected but it was mostly empty on a Thursday night. Service was kind of slow too as they only had 1 person waiting tables, but you can press a button to call the waiter over. I got the Jja Jang Myun and Tangsuyook which seem to be their house specials and the portions are huge! Even to split someone else we still ended up with enough leftovers for another meal the next day! Overall, the flavour profile leaned sweet, which was a little surprising for the Jja Jang Myun noodles since it's supposed to be a savoury comfort food. The Tangsuyook deep fried pork had an interesting sweet pineapple sauce which made the dish less heavy for summer. Not sure if I would go back tbh considering there's so much competition nearby.

This time around, we decided to pop into Gyodong for some tasty Korean eats. It's a cool restaurant where you order using tablets on the table. We decided to share a couple of items, the Jja Jang Myun and the Kkanpung Tteokbokki, and both dishes were ready fairly quickly. It's good food. The Myun didn't really have any spice, but the ingredients were solid and it was clearly made with care. And the Tteokbokki was definitely sweeter than any version of that dish I've had before but it was good. And actually, the dishes were elevated when we ate them simultaneously. Gyodong keeps the momentum of this plaza going. There's not a bad option in sight.

They opened for takeout about a month ago, and soft-opened for indoor dining on 2026-03-24. They haven't printed paper menus yet so you can see it on their online ordering website via a QR code. Some of the dishes allow your choice of protein, which some choices at an additional cost. Many of their dishes allow a choice of spice level; some dishes are naturally very spicy at a minimum since authentic Indo-Hakka cuisine is very spicy and bold, using Indian spices, green chilies, and fiery sauces. I ordered the following: 1. House Special Steamed Momos with Chicken ($11.99+$1.00). Chose mild. Comes with a sweet chili sauce and a hot chili sauce. 2. Crispy Cauliflower Bliss ($13.99). Chose mild. 3. Desi Hakka & Co. Chow Mein with Veg ($15.99+$0.00). This is a house special. Their mild level still has a little bit of spiciness. This is the spiciest level I could handle from this restaurant. The momos were not spicy, but you can dip them into the sweet chili or hot sauces provided. The chicken inside the momos where plentiful and juicy. While shooting a video of wanting to slightly dip a momo (using provided tongs) into the hot sauce, I actually dropped it into the hot sauce, so 30% was covered with sauce! Then I tried a second momo and repeated the drop again! I suffered eating those two momos! I wish dropped them into the sweet chili sauce instead because that was less spicy. The Crispy Cauliflower was a little spicy. The batter around the cauliflower wasn't that crispy. Not sure if I took too long to eat it. The cauliflower itself was good. If came which a lot of sautéed vegetables. The Chow Mein was also spicy. Overall this dish was good. This dish was large, so be hungry or share it. The customer service was acceptable. Currently the waiter is one of the two owners. They really need 2 or 3 wait staff. Have one person is nit enough, especially when the same staff have to also deal with the online delivery people. Hopefully they will hire more people by grand opening. There is seating for 25-30 people. The seating area is darkened but the front of the area lets in sunlight so it is brighter during the daytime. There is mostly instrumental lively music playing in the background. There is free WiFi. The restaurant is not wheelchair accessible. There are two gender-neutral washrooms in the basement, hence they are not wheelchair accessible (you have to walk up many steps to go in). There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Although it was all good, the Khao Soi and Soft Shelled Crab were my favourites. These are dishes that I would order over and over. We started with one of their specials, the Shrimp Donuts. My dining companion assumed they'd be actual donuts with shrimp flavors, but this is definitely not that. It's essentially shrimp pieces shaped into a deep-fried donut. And it's good, real good. It arrived to the table piping hot, and I took a big old bite right away. The flavors are right on point, and the whole thing is enhanced by the accompanying sweet sauce. It's a terrific appetizer (although awfully expensive at $12 for four of them). For our main, we went with the Khao Soi ("Soft and crispy egg noodles, golden curry, coconut milk, spring onion, red onion, crispy shallot, lime, pickled veg") and we got that Spicy. It's a really solid version of this iconic dish. It's maybe not up there with the best adaptations I've had, but it's quite good. The broth is super flavorful and rich, while the other components are right on point. The spice level was perfect, too. The service was top notch, as well, so I have no doubt we'll be returning to Thai Barn Na at some point.

The pop of the shop is so nice and explained everything on the menu to me with an understandable pleasant Korean accent. He was especially proud of their fishball soup that comes with the meal and he had good reason to be! After ordering in person he allowed me to wait at my car as he brought the meal when it was ready. It was only about 5 mins wait he came out and I met him half way saying one of 2 Korean phrases I know "!" and he was so happy as we bowed to each other after the exchange. The soup had the sharpest and alluring smell. It's a clear soup that reminded me of the Chinese soups I grew up consuming after a meal and it made my mouth water. For $11 you get a nice portion of spicy gochujang chicken with arugula salad, tomatoes, japchae and rice at the bottom which was necessary to soak up the chicken's spicy sweet sauce! I was actually so happy eating it. The rice was cooked perfectly. The main dish paired with the pickled veggies and soothing fishball soup is perfect! So many different flavors, all very intense and all complimenting each other. You just kind of keeping going around eating main, soup, pickled veggies, smiling, and repeating. So much love and care was put into this meal, you really can't help but smile and appreciate it. TIP: You can order by phone. Their online menu is limited so I'd recommend calling!
