We love Lamppost Pizza! The sauce is zesty, the toppings are fresh and ample, and the crust is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, like a good bread should be. There are coupons and specials every day, e.g., buy one get one for $3 or buy one topping, get three toppings free. They are also very reliable -- they've never gotten our order wrong or had to wait for the pizza longer than the estimate. We weren't that crazy about the hamburgers, but who cares? LampPost Pizza is one of my top 3 favorite pizza parlors in Davis. You get a huge & packed combo pizza for a lil' under $20, which is great for those nights when you're too busy studying/working and have little to no time to eat, let alone actually cook. It's walking distance if you live in North Davis, but I personally prefer to eat here or just pick it up in my car. Like other people mentioned too, you can get a couple cheap pitchers of beer here as well. Hey, when you're a po' starving college student, you gotta shop for the most bang for you buck, and this is one of the places that you'll get that (in my humble opinion). read more

Richard Pro here with another review. Sometimes, I cannot bring myself to say it, but I love this place. Your pizza looks cheap, it's greasy, cheese is somewhat low quality, and your pizza doesn't look great, but the taste is amazing. I get the sausage and mushroom, and I enjoy large chunks of sausage and a huge amount of toppings. The cheese, crust, sausage, and mushroom taste perfectly together, and believe me, there are pizza places that completely screw this up. Lamppost is not salty, which is excellent. Price and service, however, irk me constantly. Their coupons are in a way a rip off, because the tax is based off the original price. No one does this but lamppost. If you use a coupon for a $10 pizza, tax should be based on $10, not $24 or whatever a normal large pizza costs. As a result, expect the price of a coupon you use to be undercharged by $7 because of tax and delivery. I don't like the service. They're bored, tired, and the manager isn't eager for your business. He refuses to deliver to me even though I live within their delivery range. I had lamppost frequently in the dorms, but now that I live off campus I guess I'll give another pizza location my business. Their loss, because i actually like their pizza. read more

I didn't know there was a Lamppost Pizza in Davis until I saw a deal on Groupon! So far, I've bought two deals for this place and have eaten here twice in both in September 2011 and February 2012. Ordering was easy breezy. My friend and I shared a pizza every time we went. We usually got the large. Toppings I've tried so far are garlic chicken, the whole 9 yards, the best of seven, and the linebacker. All of these toppings were half-half. Pizzas came loaded with toppings. They easily fell off, however, there are utensils for that! Not to mention Janet, she's such a darling who warns you about being careful and not burning your paws since the pizza is hot and fresh! read more

I went there a couple of days ago to place a to-go order. My review will describe things in chronological order. I go inside and the place has great interiors and feels like a nice place to sit and eat at. I walk up to the counter and a really friendly person takes my order. I place my order and then am told that my order would be ready in 10-12 minutes. When I returned, my order was ready. But the upside was that they had accidentally made my pizza with 2 wrong toppings, so they made one exactly how I wanted and gave both pizzast to me for the price of one. The pizzas tasted great, but for some reason I found them a little heavy- I got full in 2-3 slices while I can normally eat 5. Nevertheless, a great experience! I'll be back soon!! read more

Food is great. The night crew is great. The mid day crew is terrible. I ordered the lunch special and after 20 mins they said they didn't have the stuff I ordered so it'd take another 10-15 mins. I asked for a refund. I found out later that, that said employee called me an a**hole. Doesn't sound like a "family friendly" restaurant. Also, my friends ordered a pitcher of beer and the cashier forgot to check everyone's IDs so the manger came up to my friend and harassed her. It wasn't her fault that lamppost forgot to check IDs. Lamppost is by far the best pizza in Davis, their specialty pizzas are amazing and they have good deals Sunday-Thursday. I am not a sports person but it seems like a great place to watch a game with friends if you're into that. Our first visit here started out a bit rough but management turned it around and I am definitely a fan. Long story short, we had been waiting for our food for awhile and finally went up to the counter to inquire about the wait after we noticed a large party that came in way after us get there food. It turned out that the order was some how lost but the manager comped our entire order and even upgraded our wings. He made sure to get our order made right away and personally brought it out to our table. He even offered my husband another beer and apologized again for the wait. When the food actually came, it was good! I expected some mediocre pizza but the ingredients were noticeably fresh and it was not greasy. A friend of mine was craving pizza from here. I wanted to try something new, since I never tried Lamp Post Pizza. My friend order Cheezy bread to share. OMG the bread was so delicious! I ordered the Mini cheese pizza, and it was good and plenty. I've never ordered a pizza without pepperoni, but their cheese pizza was very satifying without. My friend ordered the the Aggie Burger with a side salad. I didn't try it but it came with plenty of greens and looked appetizing. The pizza here is great. I'm never disappointed. (Always get the thick crust - mmm.) Love when they have fresh Heirloom tomatoes in the fall - absolutely delicious. I would never ever recommend this location for those seeking gluten-free food. I understand that some might say look for places other than pizza joints for GF experiences, but when Lamppost advertises and offers GF crust, I expect them to live up to it. It was my birthday, and I was looking for a location to celebrate that was casual and that friends would enjoy. Having been relatively recently diagnosed with Celiac disease, I am still trying to navigate the social aspect of GF dining. So I called ahead and was assured by the person on the phone that their GF pizza crust was frozen and made separately, and that to ensure no cross contamination, I should just clarify that when ordering. So when I ordered pizza, I made it absolutely clear to the cashier that I have Celiac disease and MUST have food completely free of gluten cross-contamination. We also debated whether the cider on tap was GF, and after looking it up online, established that it was. Given our several-minute conversation, it should have been crystal clear to the cashier the seriousness of my request for GF food. We waited for food, and when it arrived, the crust appeared fluffier than normal GF dough usually appears. Several people at the table were suspicious, but our order number was correct, so two people with Celiac disease ALMOST ate the pizza. We decided at the last moment to double check, and when we asked our server, he said, "Oh no, that's not gluten free." We asked how that could have happened, and he attempted to blame it on us, saying that we had not clarified that with the cashier. Given our several minute conversation with the cashier about both food and beverage that needed to be GF, Lamppost was clearly in the wrong and the waiter would not accept responsibility for the mistake. When pressured, he apologized and said another pizza was being baked for us. When asked if the non-GF pizza could remain for those who ate gluten, he flatly said "no" and removed the pizza. We expressed to him the serious health risk that Lamppost had just committed, and he neither accepted responsibility, offered for us to speak with a manager, nor offered compensation. We directed asked him if compensation would be appropriate for the serious mistake, and he avoided the question and left. A new pizza was brought 25 minutes later without ever a sincere apology or acceptance of responsibility for a very serious problem. I understand that being GF these days is trendy, but for the small population of people with Celiac disease for whom being truly 100% GF is essential for short-term and life-long health, it is absolutely crucial that there be some understanding in the restaurant industry how critical it is to get this right. For those who offer GF options, I expect them to live up to those standards. I expect Lamppost as an establishment to educate their employees and teach them respect for customers. I will never again eat at Lamppost pizza, nor will I recommend it to friends. Lamppost showed no concern for their error, accepted no responsibility, offered no compensation, and tainted what should have been a carefree experience without detrimental health risks. I am very disappointed and hope Lamppost will make a monumental effort to ensure that this does not happen to any customers again. read more

I appreciate fresh ingredients, and Lampost is pretty darn fresh. They hand toss their dough, and they don't overcook their pizza. However, their prices are a bit high, and they told my friend that they didn't offer student discounts. The interior is kind of dark and dead (even on a Friday night), and one of the workers was acting weird. Three guys were hanging by the front looking at the beers on tap, and she went up to them and told them to go away because they were blocking the walkway (which they weren't). Pizza is great. Crust texture is very nice. Toppings are generous. The screens are always playing some big game or sporting event. Went on Easter sunday with my novio at night time, so there were only about 5 other people dining in. Both of us decided to order calzones. Each one comes with up to 4 toppings, he ordered his with pepperoni & sausage, and I ordered mine with pepperoni..roasted red peppers..bell peppers..and tomato. We only ordered 1 drink and the waitress was gracious enough to offer me a glass for water(which I hadn't even thought of asking for). Our order took about 15 mins to come out...which wasn't a big deal because they're made to order and we had each other to keep us company(plus my bf was plenty entertained with the soccer game that was on the tv..haha =]) Both of us were very pleased with the taste and size of the calzones...despite being super hungry when we arrived, neither of us even finished the whole thing. So we took the remainder home and had a nice lunch with it the next day. All in all we really enjoyed dinner here...have also tried the pizza on a separate occasion and would recommend it as well. read more

Good pizza place, especially for West/North Davis. IMO the best pizza in Davis are here, and Woodstock's. I tend to pick Woodstock's over this simply because it's in downtown and it's got a cooler atmosphere than here, but pizzas here aren't bad at all, some are actually better even. Really good pizzas, but what surprises me is how they offer so many other foods without compromising quality. I really like their sandwiches and, surprisingly, their salads as well. Who could have expected a neighborhood pizza joint to use microgreens? For that matter, who isn't pleasantly surprised by their large selection of microbrews on tap as well. After a day on the road, the last thing we wanted to think about was finding a restaurant. Our limited experience of Davis was that parking was neither easy nor convenient. When I read that the Lamppost delivered, I was all in. We ordered the garlic chicken pasta and the antipasto salad. The salad was plenty for two and pretty good. The pasta portion was huge and though it probably would have been better fresh in the restaurant with maybe some extra Parmesan on the side, it was ok. The pizza is great. Worthy of 4 stars. A tad on the expensive side - but lately the only cheap pizza that is at all worth eating is Costco. The rest of the main pizza places seem to all be about $30 for a large pizza. So if you are not in the mood for quick, Costco pizza, but want a nice draft to sit down with your meal - then this is worth the splurge. A full star reduction on this review because of the staff's attitude, whom are often rude and condescending. The salads are not worthy of your time or money (especially spinach salad that has weird bacon on it), but I have excluded salads from this review, since this is really a pizza place, not a salad bar. If the owner should read this - after being a customer for well over a 15 times, I have seen a remarked difference in how your staff treats customers when you are there vs. when you are not there. I actually had a server tell me "I only have two hands to carry the pizza", when I kindly reminded her of the other items I ordered. Is there ever a reason to say "I only have two hands"? Granted this job market is tough, but I think the bar needs to be set a little higher from the top down, that customers are worthy of respect and gratitude for continuing to patronize the business. It seems the culture among the staff breeds "customers are annoying and stupid". At least that's my take-away impression. Otherwise, if you can put with the snotty staff, and want to have a nice draft beer with a big screen tv in front of you - then this is your place! read more
