Great alternative to framing, fast service and nice results. Please keep the ability to bring creative projects for laminating

Ok. I was printing an important project for a new client. The amazing Printlab did my printing and recommend Lamin 8 to mount the print. The print looked great when I picked it up and had it framed. About 10 days after the client hung the piece they send me photo of the print with large bubbles where the print was peeling off the mounting board. Obviously concerned and wanting to make it right I called Lamin 8. The manager that answered the phone went immediately to . Pointing blame at everyone and everything he could think of. I was taken back by the aggro!!!! I just called to see what could be done, and this dude went H.A.M on the blame game. I paid 850$ for the mounting. This is not the kind of service anyone would expect. He hung up on me when I had no choice but to push back. *do not use these people for anything. I will make sure my photographer community in Chicago know. Funny this is the exact same review someone left 11 years ago!!! read more

I placed my second order in 2 months (see previous review) and this time I needed a float mount of 6 large color photos. And I had an unusual request to have the back mount designed with a lower 3/8" profile for hanging on a 60 degree angle. Ben figured it out by making the "screw groove" dead center so when hung, it would be balanced and structurally secure. It turned out better than I expected because by adjusting the screw head as low as possible, to grab the slot, it can be super tight against the angled wall, eliminating the need for Velcro or double stick tape to hold it firm. The pressure allows you to fine tune and level the pieces for a professional and precise job. Turnaround of the 6 pieces was less than 1 week and cost was very reasonable. The Pilates studio I manage started to get more and more press, so we decided to call Lamin-8 to have all the articles and blog entries printed to hang in our studio. I called Lamin-8 first and then emailed them links to every article we wanted printed. I didn't have to go out of my way to explain what I wanted. I was in constant contact with them via e-mail asking for a number of different quotes, which they provided quickly. They also warned me about one thing: the PDFs and blogs I sent them were low-resolution, meaning they wouldn't print as nicely. I appreciated the heads up. When it was time to open and hang the articles, "low resolution" and all, they looked amazing! We decided to go with the plaque mount. All articles have a black background and look very sharp on our walls. Lamin-8 even re-did the blog entries so no adds would appear in the print. They did a phenomenal job. They did the PDFs for $40 each and the blogs for $55 each. read more

Good product terrible service. As a photographer I used Lamin-8 for about 3 years to mount my photos. Their general products are good and helped boost my sales. However they do not stand behind their work and take no responsibility when they mess up your piece ie you'd have to give them a new photo at your expense if it is damaged in production, although this was a rare occurrence. They helped create a backing for me for a new presentation style and assured me it would stand the test of time. Now I have customers coming back to me with problems with the backing bubbling/unsticking. Lamin-8 tell me it is my problem and do not even return my calls. UPDATE: Now that I have written this review they are now calling me, and so I have increased the rating to 3 stars. If they help fix issues in the future then I may increase it again, but as of now I am out of pocket fixing this problem. UPDATE 2: After their prior calls telling me how wrong I am with this review (!?!) they promised to help fix issues with their product, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. A customer 10 mins from them had a piece peel off their backing! Fortunately undamaged. Lamin8 said that they would help resolve the issue. I was expecting zero charge to material costs. Heck no! They wanted to charge $125, more than making a new replacement, including 1.5 hours for 2 guys to pick up the one piece. Did they go for lunch and bill that? Why did it take 2 people when I managed to deliver it by myself? Watch out, Lamin8 will nickel and dime you for everything they can think of! I would have left the review at 2 star if they'd been honest and straight out told they would not help instead of pretending to help and then wanting to charge me the earth. read more

I was referred to Lamin-8 through a classmate of mine for one of my projects for school. I am a photography major and I was very impressed with the everything, from when I came in for a quote on the pricing, the various mounting and frameless options and the end result! I needed a quick turnaround since I waited last minute to get it finished. I got a call from them in less than a week to come pick up my print! I switched to Lamin-8 when my other vendor that I used had retired. They did and do great work...but...yesterday I was argued with because I had a return. Apparently my business is too small for them to care. Ben who works there is great...it was the manager that was offensive. The redo was not even my fault...it was a fault of theirs and I was made to feel that it was mine and that they did not care because I do not spend enough money there. If you take your work there...you will get great work just try not to upset the manager in any way. Ask for Ben...he is the "nice" one at the counter read more

Several years ago I discovered Lamin8 while searching for interesting ways to display my photography. Lamn8 offers really interesting printing and framing alternatives. I chose to have my work printed on "Float Mount" for a small show. I worked with Ben Marth who was incredibly helpful and professional. Fast forward, I now live in Baltimore and again have the need for printing mounting my art for shows/sale. Gratefully, Ben is still with Lamin8. He goes above and beyond to insure the production quality is superior. The staff at Lamin8 takes the utmost care in packaging and shipping my work to me as well as drop shipping to customers who buy my art. Ben provides such unparalleled service. Very Poor Customer Service and Imperfect Product Lamin8 has undergone some changes recently which has resulted in an influx of work that they are obviously unable to manage. What this means for customers are jobs done quickly without enough care and very poor customer relations. The manager, Abe, is rude and frankly inappropriate in the manner with which he communicates. My most recent work with Lamin8 became an unprecedented situation for me. Abe spoke down to me, a customer who was certainly not in the wrong. Rather, I came in earlier than was initially indicating as a favor to pick up my work and free up their work spaces. This meant scrambling to sort out a car, four days before the ETA that was given to me upon drop off. After being spoken to with very little respect or understanding, Abe uncovered my work for a condition check and revealed an imperfect, off center mount. To add insult to injury, I was charged fully, which I have heard reported is common practice at Lamin8. They have absolutely lost my business. I have used Lamin-8 Services twice now for mounting my fine art photographs to Dibond for exhibitions. These are very large scale high resolution photographs, inkjet printed by me. Lamin-8 carefully mounts and cuts my work. I have white borders which they have carefully kept clean of fingerprints or smudges. I then frame the work myself, archivally taping the laminated work to plexiglas with spacers. Lamin-8 has mounted over 25 large pieces for me and have made no errors. I know the day will come when a work might get damaged, and I allow for that. I will reprint at my expense and try again. Fixed cost of business. They do the best work in Chicago that I know of, and I would happily recommend them to anyone. I will continue to use them for my work. I had an incredibly good experience with Lamin-8. I found their name through the SAIC service bureau. I dealt only with Ben, I think, on the phone and in person, and he was incredibly knowledgeable and responsive from my very first exploratory (panicked, on-deadline) call. About 90% of using vendors for printing is about the communication that leads up to the printing itself (so many options/concerns!), and all of it with Ben was great. I was very happy with the finished result, the communication leading up to it, and their ability to turn the project around fast. I was really worried about finding the right printer over the phone, making decisions at a distance, but - it all worked out 100%. Will definitely be using them again. read more
