Went on a road trip recently, and spent a few days in St. Louis. Since St. Louis has a whole style…read moreof rib named after it, I had to try and seek out the best in town. My research brought me here to Pappy's. I'm very glad it did. Ambiance starts with a line out the door, literally. You slowly shuffle down a long hallway full of Pappy's memorabilia. Then you make it to the ordering counter, order, and find a table. The dining room is huge, plenty of tables, with a full complement of sauces on each table. The service people at the counter were friendly, and so were the people delivering the food. The food came out quick and hot and delicious. We had baked beans and potato salad for sides, and they were pretty solid. Nothing show-stealing, but no complaints about them whatsoever. And of course, we got the ribs. Tender, juicy, a nice bite and chew, a decent bark, just a really wonderful rib. Better than any St. Louis style rib I've ever had back home in Florida. Other states, hard to say, the jury's out, but in that moment, I was eating a five-star rib. So good. We also got a 1/4 pound of the Burnt Ends. Usually, burnt ends are the king of meats, but I think we've entered the phase of America, where they're just another variety of meat and not necessarily upper echelon anymore. That being said, these were pretty ok. Should have gotten more ribs. Overall, Pappy's was pretty wow. Great local spot with a lot of pride and history, excellent ribs, I will definitely try to come back next time I'm in town.

As good as advertised…read more.. We've only been to the Pappy's in St. Peter's, but the STL location is equally as good... It's not hard to see why The Food Network rated Pappy's as the "#1 rib joint in the country", as this place is next level bbq. You can smell the bbq from down the street and it will instantly make you hungry, even if you just ate... The place has the "cool bbq joint vibes", the employees are ultra-friendly, and it's fair/reasonable priced based on the quality of the food (runs between $40-50 for two people). Strongly recommend getting ribs, but their smoked chicken and turkey are outstanding as well. I didn't love their original bbq sauce (it was too thick and sweet with a heavy molasses flavor), but the hoodoo spicy sauce was out of this world. I would put Pappy's up against some of the other big named bbq joints in the country and they'd hold their own... Definitely worth the stop when in STL.

Now listen... for me, the flavors didn't quite punch me in the mouth the way true Cajun food should. I wanted a little more "who made this roux and how long did they stir it?" energy. BUT -- and this matters -- everything was fresh, well-cooked, and genuinely delicious. No frozen-tasting foolishness, just good seafood done right. I just wanted the seasoning to turn the volume knob up a notch or three. The seating situation started off a little sideways, like a crawfish running from the boil, but we got it wrangled and after that the night smoothed out just fine. Let's talk sides. Baby... these sides were small for the price. And look -- St. Louis has so many great spots where you get quality and value. The county can be tricky like that: the food delivers, but the prices sometimes think they're partying on Bourbon Street during peak Mardi Gras. Now I gotta say something that stayed with me all night -- that fish tank broke my heart. Those fish looked lonely. If you're gonna have a tank, give them some friends, some sparkle, maybe toss in a bead or two -- make it FUN. Right now it's giving "sad aquarium waiting for parade season." Tonic report from the bar: whew -- that tonic was way too sweet for my taste. My gin was confused, I was confused, so I tapped out and switched to iced tea, which did me just right. One thing I truly appreciated -- the owner is very personable and stopped by our table to say hello, which always earns major points. That kind of hospitality matters and adds to the experience. And here's my loving suggestion: lean HARD into Mardi Gras season. It's a BIG deal here in the Lou, and this place is perfectly set up for it. Beads, music, specials, colors, chaos -- give us a reason to yell laissez les bons temps rouler before the appetizers even hit the table. BUT HOLD UP -- because the real star of the night was our server Brittany, and baby... she was an absolute QUEEN Warm, fun, attentive, and made the whole night feel like a party. We laughed, we relaxed, and we had a blast. Brittany is the kind of server who makes you want to come back -- and maybe order dessert even when you swore you were done. All in all, Gulf Shores brings fresh seafood, good vibes, and Cajun-adjacent comfort. Turn the seasoning up, give the fish some friends, lean into Mardi Gras, rethink the tonic -- and if Brittany's in your section? You're already winning.

There was a sign saying that it was takeout only and the venue was empty on a Saturday afternoon, but it was filled with a lot of beautiful cakes. I believe I got to witness the legend Tim Brennan himself handle some orders. Service was friendly, although the guy who was helping us out didn't seem to be too familiar with all of their offerings; I don't even blame him, as there are a lot of goodies on their menu with quite the specifications. I found the prices to be very fair. I tried their meyer lemon cream puffs and their mini Baileys heart cake. I actually asked for plain cream puffs, but I'm a fan of desserts with hints of lemon so I won't complain. I didn't love that the box they came in was so frozen inside, but the desserts themselves were tasty. I can only imagine they would've tasted so much better fresh. The Baileys heart absolutely met my expectations; the flavors were perfect and it wasn't too sweet. It was just a higher cream-to-cake ratio, and I would've loved for it to be a more even split because the cake was so light and fluffy. My partner ordered their tray of cinnamon rolls, which were a pretty good deal. His feedback was that he couldn't quite nail the reheating instructions and they came out hard every time, but he genuinely enjoyed them as is without any reheating. So many options, will definitely be back for more in the future!
