Went back to Lalo's for dinner in early June and noticed the signs about the new ownership inside. The new ownership must have reduced the service and quality of food. Both of our dishes were not as good as our last visit. They were salty and contained less protein. Hopefully they can turn it around and make it as good as it used to be. read more

A decent neighborhood spot for Tex-Mex. Was busy on a Friday night, so I have to assume others agree. We ordered margaritas and they were mid-tier. I will admit my party is a bit specific with margaritas so it wasn't our perfect match, but it was decent enough. Has a lot of sugar though, so I'd personally ask for less next time. We ordered the guacamole, nachos, and fajitas. The guacamole was great, but it did have some odd plating (I don't really understand why it came with cucumbers, but to each their own). Salsa is fresh and you can tell! The nachos were fine as well. The menu says they come with either shredded chicken, picadillo, or carnitas, but the people I was with really wanted steak and the staff was happy to oblige. The fajitas were great, hard to mess up delicious grilled meats and onions. They also give you melted garlic butter at no additional charge. The only thing I'll say that I was a little disappointed about is that their fajitas did not come with lettuce, shredded cheese, or sour cream. It's not the biggest deal, but it was noticeable enough since most places in the area do serve it that way. All in all a nice experience. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. If there was any advice I could give them, I would say they need a website attached to their google address! read more

Do not waste your time or money. To start, the waitress/manager did not listen to our order and brought our drink and appetizer order wrong. The food tasted partially prepackaged, the avocados were brown, and the rest had zero flavor. We were also charged prices above what was listed on the menu. Lesson learned. read more

This was truly the worst mexican food i have EVER had. The plates are over priced and under seasoned. We ran out of chips and it took about 10 minutes before we got up to ask for some more. The salsa was also flavorless. We received cold enchiladas that were so over salted you couldn't taste anything else. My husband received tiny tacos and unsalted, COLD fries. You do NOT want to miss this! These folks have a long and time-honored reputation for their restaurants in this part of Texas. This ain't their first rodeo. Lalo's is located in the town square of Madisonville, so there is plenty of parking and plenty of things to look at after the meal if you want to walk off dinner. You can't miss this place. It features festive decorations inside and out and even has a horse in front. The atmosphere inside matches the decorations. They make you feel like the guest of honor at a festive gathering. The staff are friendly and professional. You won't have to ask for refills on your drinks or on your chips and salsa. The employees have great attitudes. They are welcoming and dedicated to serving you. They provide an excellent experience. You should leave feeling better than when you arrived. The food is excellent. It is served hot and fresh. The portions are generous. Believe me, you will NOT leave hungry! The restaurant is kept very clean. You won't find employees just standing around or on their phones. They stay busy scanning the tables for glasses that need to be refilled, chips that need to be refilled, empty plates that need to be collected, tables that need to be cleaned, floors that need to be swept, etc. Excellent service and excellent food in a pleasant atmosphere at a reasonable price. First time trying Taco salad - service was slow and not too friendly (no smile or chit chat). It took a long time to make it but liked good when finally arrived. The chicken was freshly grilled and tasted good. The tomatoes were old and I found pieces of wilted lettuce in the salad. No guacamole at all - this is the first time having a Taco salad without guacamole! One thing that bothered me: the TV was broken and they just left it on in the middle of the main dining area - who does that? It was hard to watch TV and I almost got up and turned it off. Anyway could have rated higher if waiter was pleasant he was focused on hustling the female waitresses/bus girl. read more

Good service! The bus boy was amazing and on top of any need or request. The server was charming, quick, and very polite. My daughter couldn't decide what kind of queso she wanted. He suggested one yellow and one blanco. Perfect! The blanco was better. We each got what we ordered with refills of tea, water, chips and salsa. The only food issue was flat Dos Equis draft. The server and bartender couldn't fix it, so a draft Modelo was the substitute. The bathroom needed a wipe down and the TV in the dining room was annoying. Something wasn't right about the screen. Haven't been to Lalo's in a few months. But decided to try again tonight. Went to the bar and only two others at the bar and they were waiting on their check. When the server/bartender asked what we would like. We told him to start waters and Queso with fresh jalapeños. He wrote it down on his little pad. He came back and asked if we were ready to order, we told him our drink order. He brought our drinks jumbo margaritas and a wine. Then asked if we were ready to order. We placed our order and I asked for picadillo for the Texas quesadillas. He said they don't have that only beef or chicken. So I ordered beef. My wife ordered and then the food came out quickly. Soggy quesadillas. Never got our waters or queso. So I told him don't bother with it. He didn't even know what I was talking about. Not once asked if we needed anything. He was only on his phone. They close at 10:30 but at 9:30 they moved the chairs next to us and started sweeping. Not once did anyone ask us how we were or if they could get us anything. We finally decided to leave and asked for our check. Again never asked how was your meal/drinks/evening. I guess guests are now taken for granted. I hope Martin reads and better trains his staff. It always comes down to management. I would love more places to spend time at but not again at Lalos. Sorry to be a b**ch but I eat out a lot and this is about as bad as it has been for me. this is the 3rd time I've online ordered food or sat at the bar and been completely ignored. The first time I sat at the bar ordered a coors light and waited 8 minutes for someone to serve me that at the bar, wanted to order food but nobody came I had 3 drinks of my beer and walked out. Second time sat at the bar got a beer and my food...waited 15 minutes to pay. left a note on the check for them to pay attention to their customers, fyi they were not busy at all. Today I ordered online...food was ready waited while 8 new customers came in and were helped before me. I am a bartender in the service industry . Got a combination plate that included a taco and the taco shell was so stale it was chewy. It was served on a hot plate which could have an effect, but the plate also included queso and the taco bowl it came in was fine. Also the taco meat tasted weird. My husband wasn't impressed with the enchiladas. Service was good and fast but our experience with the food was not great. As a side note, we both noticed we felt a little off a short time later, like how you might feel after not getting enough sleep or having a cocktail, but neither of us had an alcoholic drink there or at all that day. Not sure if it was related to the restaurant or not, however if anyone else feels that way after going to Lalo's then that place should be checked out for what they're putting in the food/drinks. read more

We noticed some negative reviews and feel like they must be from jealous competitors. We love Lalo's and make a point of stoping in at least once a week. The atmosphere is festive and upbeat with brightly colored walls, pictures and happy music! The menu is terrific! If you can't find something that suits your taste, there is something wrong with you. There menu is extensive but not expensive! Great food for a great value! Did I mention the best Happy Hour we have ever seen? Happy Hour is from 11:00-6:00 every day of the week and their house Margaritas are awesome! We have been going there since the second day they opened. Honestly im so picky about trying new restaurants but this is such a GOOD restaurant! GREAT customer service and FOOD WAS SO GOOD! Great price. We got burritos/enchiladas and torta. We got guac and queso blanco and the aguas frescas are good. Waiter was on point. We never had to wait on anything. Drinks were always refilled on time. We went Monday 8PM good time to go. read more
