Dr. Douglas Lakin, MD, is a highly successful and extremely brilliant doctor. He is an Internal Medicine doctor who specializes primarily in the care of only adults, and has been my husband's and my doctor for over 22 years. He is an outstanding diagnostician who expertly gets to the bottom of whatever health problem we have acquired. With Dr. Lakin as our doctor, most of the time we don't need another specialist as Dr. Lakin is a Top Doc Internal Medicine doctor, but the few times we have needed one, he is well acquainted with the best specialists around. Dr. Lakin employs a friendly, highly trained, professional office and medical staff which allow him to very efficiently help us in anyway he can. That means when we go to him, not only do we have Dr. Lakin's expertise, we also receive a custom office experience as opposed to a "big box" assembly line. That is another reason why we very much prefer and like having Dr. Lakin as our doctor. If we want lab work, we do not have to travel to a lab. It is collected right there in his office and is picked up by a well know professional lab that same day, the outcome of which is reported to us by Dr. Lakin as it pertains to our individual case, the following day. We would gladly give up any small luxuries such as Starbucks etc., to pay the small yearly administration fee in order to have the peace of mind of being a patient of Dr. Lakin and his caring and extremely well organized office. My husband had a complicated health problem and Dr. Lakin patiently kept working with him to find out out the best possible solution that he was agreeable to. I very much appreciated the fact that Dr. Lakin consistently stayed in contact with me during that time to help me help my husband. Another reason why we feel very secure having Dr. Lakin as our doctor is, he actually listens to us. That is probably because he also has a background in medical research. One of his favorite sayings which he learned from one of his professors in medical school at The John's Hopkin's University School of Medicine is, "Your mind is like a parachute. If it isn't open, it won't work". Dr. Lakin is an extraordinary doctor who gives us confidence, hope, strength, and credit for intelligence, while helping us work through whatever medical problems we have brought to him. He is very likable and we always look forward to seeing him. On top of his brilliance and superior medical knowledge, he's an exceptionally caring, high quality person with a great sense of humor and a positive outlook. No other doctor has successfully taken us through some tough situations like Dr. Lakin has. Lost my father because of Dr Lakin. He was steadily going downhill with no testing or concern from Dr Lakin. When he couldn't get out of bed we called Dr Lakins office to see if we should call an ambulance. We were told to wait and see how he would be in the morning. In the morning he was dead. Dr. Lakin was my family doctor for many years. In that time there were two instances of malpractice which 1. Led to my father's untimely death 2. Put me in the hospital for a week at the age of 21. Dr. Lakin does not care for his patients and I can't recommend him in good faith to anyone. My father complained of chest pains continuously to Dr. Lakin who continued to assure him he was fine without doing any proper testing- which could've saved my father from dying of a heart attack. I had an undiagnosed kidney infection which Dr Lakin kept prescribing me antibiotics for- after a week a half of no water or food I was rushed to the ER. It still pains me that I put my trust into this egomaniac Doctor. It's unfortunate he's still practicing. Please avoid him if you can - he literally does not care about doing the right thing and shouldn't be practicing anymore. read more

Dr Lakin has been my doctor for my whole life I'm 34 years old and I have been seeing him since I was about 10 years old. This man has done everything in his power as a human and a doctor to always treat me right and make sure every problem I've had is fully addressed. When you see Dr Lakin it feels like your seeing a friend who also specializes in making sure your in tip top condition. I'm new to area and was looking for a primary care physician. I called this office and was told they charge, something like $250 for an initial appointment and a yearly charge of roughly the same just to be a patient. This was a new one on me. I guess doctors are trying to find creative ways to offset insurance payments. I never met with Dr Larkin so I cannot comment on his abilities or personal compatibility but I wasn't willing to spend that much money to find out. read more

Doug Lakin is one of the best doctors I've ever encountered -- as his 9 consecutive "Best of Phoenix" awards will attest. He is warm, personable, and knows his stuff. You never get the feeling that he is rushing you or disregarding your concerns. The office itself is standard fare - a lobby full of elderly patients and a semi-unfriendly staff who will keep you waiting for 30-60 minutes without communicating a thing. They also take very few types of insurance and I have always had to pay out of pocket. Nevertheless, I will go to see "Dr. Doug" as long as I live in the Phoenix area because I trust him to give me top-of-the-line medical care. read more

Doctor Doug is the best in town. He doesn't accept most insurance so he's also probably the most expensive, but they will try to submit on the part of the patient. Agree with others that the staff can be gruff, but when you deal with sick people all day long I can see why. When you have an appointment he listens and replies back with what needs to be done ,follows up on your health concerns. Requests testing when needed not wasting your time . Dr. Lakin is outstanding. He gets back to you personally within minutes or hours of contact, and really listens to you. He has been our physician for over 10 years, when we saw him once a year for annual check-up's. Currently, my husband is going through a serious issue, and he is very much on top of everything, such as coordinating specialists, ordering appropriate diagnostic testing and seeing that abnormal labs are addressed immediately. I'm an RN and had lived in the Valley for 4 years, doctor-hopping due to lack of attention, concern, too busy, unavailability, etc. Then we found Dr Lakin. His office is in a convenient location, the staff is friendly and very professional, and they remember your name! Almost unheard of these days. The doc gives plenty of time to talk to you, listens to your issues, and treats you like he really cares about your health. He is also very computer savvy and responds to his patient's questions by email if desired, which is great for my family, since we don't always have to wait for a phone call.
