I would not recommend this place to anyone unless you want your loved one drugged up and starved until death. One star is more than they deserve. My father was taken there by his wife and he was only supposed to be there 5 days due to a plumbing problem at home. As soon as he was admitted his meds were changed so I called the doctor in charge. She called me back and explained that he was only being re-accessed because he was bedridden and needed lower amounts of medication. She assured me that this would help him so that he could feel better by the time he went home. The next day he stopped eating (was eating soft foods and liquids at home) and he was unable to speak coherently or even sty awake. This was very alarming since I lived out of town, When I left a message to speak to the doctor, they said I was not on the list of people she could talk to about him and she never returned the call. My step mother assured me that she would have the social worker call me and that they were going to keep him there longer. She never called that day but the next afternoon a nurse or caregiver called me to say that he would die in the next week and that he wasn't eating. I was very upset to say the least. The hospital he was in the month before had given him 6 months to live. Two days later I was alerted that he had died. An hour later the social worker called and left me a message about how she was sorry about my loss but they were there if I needed help with my grief. They would be the last people I would call about my grief, My dad wanted to be at home in his last days, but they took that away from him. read more

My Mom just attended Lakeview before passing and I'm here to tell you this rating is BS. Idk if all of these 1 star reviews are old and times have changed or what, but from start to finish my Mom, Dad and I were taken care of. Justin was the nurse that admitted her, he got her changed out of the hospital gown and into a nightgown they provide. He also answered all of my questions and was a huge help. I was staying the night when my Mom took her last breath and the nurses were Kelly and Kat. Kat checked on my Mom basically every 15 mins making sure she wasn't in pain, answering all of my crazy questions and being a calming presence. Don't trust the Yelp score, I would recommend this place every day of the week. read more

If I could give no stars I would. It has taken me months past my dads death to even be able to write this review We made the decision with my dad the weekend of Easter for him to go into hospice care. He had a type of cancer that pain management was nearly impossible without being in hospice. The plan was that he would go into Sharp Lakeview hospice home for a few days and get on a good pain Control regiment and transfer home. As my dad was leaving for the ride from the hospital to the hospice We discussed how we would order a pizza for dinner Monday and I would bring the grandkids up. This day would be the last coherent conversation I would ever have with my dad Upon arrival the intake nurse was all set on upping his pain meds to a level that we did not want. More importantly it was to a level that he did not want. They also repeatedly tried to give him A particular medication that he was very sensitive to. Again he expressed that he didn't want that medication. Night came and went and his pain level increased dramatically. This was nothing new and basically the sole reason he went to the hospice house was to get his night pain under control. At this point these hospice nurses took over. They used phrases with my dad such as you want to be out of pain, we can give you something to make it better and you want to make the pain stop. At this point he was given medication that he previously had told them he didn't want. He was given these medications multiple times. The nurses Would wake him up out of a sound sleep. He was completely incoherent and they would try to have conversations with him about pain medication. He had no idea what he was agreeing to. My mom tried to step in multiple times and Intervene and remind them that she held the power of attorney but unfortunately because my dad was able to be slightly woken up and could speak she could not override what he had said which was agreeing to the medication even though he had no idea what he was agreeing to. My dad would never be the same. The next day he expressed desire multiple times for no more medication. Some level of pain was acceptable and he wanted to be awake. These were his wishes. At one point one of the nurses, who in my opinion is more an angel of death, continued to push more medication on him. I had to physically step between her and my dad, raise my voice and tell her to get out of his room. The next few days came and and went. Each day was the same. The hospice trying to over medicate my dad and us not allowing it. After less than a week in Lakeview hospice house we brought my dad home. Unfortunately, in any person who has great pain once you increase medication you can't simply lower in. On the morning of May 3, one week after leaving that horrible hospice house my dad passed away. Although my dad was clearly at the end of his life when he entered Lakeview the expectation ( from the doctors and nursing staff at the hospital)was he had months not weeks to live. Everyday I wonder had we not went to Lakeview would he have been with us longer. The nursing staff at Lakeview are by far the coldest, most Uncompassionate people I met during my dads illness. I would not even send an animal to this hospice. Their goal Is to terminally sedate patientsRegardless of the family or even the persons wishes. If you feel your loved one has more than several days left this place should be avoided at all costs. read more

A nurse here called my MIL saying that her mother (91 and bedridden) may not need hospice, and an abscess on her groin are to blame for her deterioration and general end-of-life symptoms. No one expects to end up in a place like this. My grandfather was extremely ill and needed medical care 24/7. This is the last place he was before he passed. This hospice is as good as it gets. First off, it's in a residential area so it doesn't feel entirely like a hospital. But here are the main reasons I liked this place for my grandpa: -Beautiful backyard and home (it's right by a lake) -A very comforting and caring staff. My grandfather's position was changed every two hours and he received different kinds of therapies to help with his illness such as musical therapy, reflexology and etc. -Very private and exclusive location. Every patient gets their own room and can have up to three family members with them during visiting hours. -Visting hours were from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and one family member was able to spend the night unless there were special circumstances, then another could stay. -Kid-friendly: They have refreshments, snacks, TV, cats in the backyard and the home is spacious. I wish I didn't have to write this review, but I know that my grandfather was taken care of greatly here... He passed in peace and in no pain and that's what hospice is supposed to be about. read more

Lakeview is a beautiful home and has a great view of a lake. Unfortunately patients do not get to enjoy it. Once the patient becomes part of hospice they take away food, water, and they are placed on morphine (by doctors orders). They are terminally sedated. "They call it comfort care and dying with dignity?" "They call themselves compassionate?" I believe their only concern is to give medicare the correct billing code (for the cause of death) in order to get paid. I do NOT recommend Lakeview home to any family. The nurses are very rude! I find hospice care and their procedures to be inhumane. I regret placing my mother in hospice care, and yes my mother was euthanized! Please research and be aware of hospice care. read more

My mom Sara passed one week ago today. Which prompted me to write this. My family is so blessed to have such loving nurses. From Carla,RN, Juilianne, Aid, Wendy and Caretaker, Sophia. Beautiful individuals. It takes special people to do this everyday. They did give mom morphine and Ativan but they explained the doses each time. We left only to rest abit and Carla was considerate and compassionate to let us know to get there because she felt time was near. We are beyond great ful for making sure mom was comfortable to the end. The home itself was beyond my expectations. Very comfortable for the entire family. At times their were more than 10 family members and they always made us feel welcomed. Thank u to all for moms care. Im so glad she was at Lakeview. read more

So how bad can a Hospice be this was a question I personally found the answer to only after the fact. My dad was under the care of Sharp HospiceCare for over 10 months. First in their transitions program (palliative care), than at home Sharp HospiceCare, and last at the Sharp HospiceCare Lakeview Home. I had spoken with my dads RN Case Manager, and Social Worker many times in the last four month of my dads life. Honestly I was always told non truths, or what being politically incorrect I would call a pack of lies about my dads condition, how he was doing, and last if death was imminent. I honestly did not even know the true condition of my dad after his last visit to Sharp Memorial ER for a shortness of breath attach. Because at one point received a call from the ER Physician saying my dad was stable, over the shortness of breath, & the ER physician was considering sending him home. Than a few hours later someone from Sharp HospiceCare who said they were a "social worker" said they were taking my dad to Lakeview home. LEADING ME TO BELIEVE IT WAS A REHABILITATION FACILITY, AND MY DAD WOULD BE BACK HOME IN 7-10 DAYS. The truth about what Lakeview Home was finally disclosed when I called to check on my dad the night they moved hime, finding out he was project to live only a day or to longer. After my dads death less than 48 hours later I traveled to San Diego to clean out his apartment. What I found shocked me beyond belief that the staff of Sharp HospiceCare allowed this man to live like some homeless person in a third world country. In a filthy apartment, it was obvious that my dad was not capable of taking care of or looking out for himself. My father always was a neatness nut, would have never lived like this unless he had no energy to lift a hand to clean. But as I said Sharp HospiceCare staff always told me all is fine he is capable to live on his own, and talking care of his home. IMHO Sharp HospiceCare is not about care or hospice care, it is about billing insurance & medicare to get maximum revenues that sure never trickled down to the patient in my dad case, who's care Sharp HospiceCare were charged with. After the fact I saw the dollars billed to medicare by Sharp HospiceCare, and question for what? I realized after the fact had I travel to San Diego and saw first had what was going on I would have fired Sharp HospiceCare, and taken my dad to the VA in San Diego where people care. But the final stray came about 8 hours after my dad's death, when someone from Sharp HospiceCare called me at 11 PM, to ask if they could go to the mortuary holding my dads body to harvest skin that would be used for skin graphs. I politely said do you know what time it is, and no you do not have permission to do anything. Let his body lie in peace. A few days later the social worker on my dads case called me to express his condolences. Lets say as I had by now returned home, had seen my dad's apartment, I was not in the mood for a canned condolence speech. But I did ask many questions to this social worker who I had spoken to previously, he avoided my questions, observations, acted dumb when I point out short coming in his companies treatment of patients, and let say I got no answers about what I will call neglect, lies & misinformation. I do recall a conversation with my dad a week or two before he died. He mentioned that the "people" (staff) from Sharp HospiceCare were cold, did not seem real concerned, did not care about him, and were just going threw some motions. My dad made the comment that these paid staff people seem not to understand someday they too will be dyeing, and someone will be charge of taking care of them. Considering using Sharp HospiceCare, if you are let say you were warned. read more

My dad was admitted here on September 4 and he passed away on the 11th. They always kept us informed of what they were doing (baths, turning him, medications, etc.) The nurses and staff at Lakeview Home were compassionate and caring not only to my dad but to our entire family. There were fresh baked cookies every day, there was always coffee and tea for the family members plus a small refrigerator for us to keep our own snacks and drinks. My dad died at the exact moment the shuttle arrived to take me to the airport and when I went out to ask the driver if he could wait a few more minutes, one of the staff members came out with me and I heard them ask the driver if he wanted a cup of coffee. I'm telling you, they ministered to everyone involved! This is a phenomenal place that I highly recommend! read more

My dad was lucky enough to secure a spot in this home environment years ago. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer and went very quickly. My dad was very adamant about not wanting to be sedated as my mom had been years before that, so the nurses respected his wishes and brought in different specialists to help him meditate and reach a more spiritual place. They were always welcoming and provided constant care. We had many visitors and the staff were always gracious hosts, letting us conduct meetings at the dining room table and using the facility as our own home. The backyard was a serene spot to digest reality. The other families there with their loved ones interacted as well. We all felt blessed to have that level of compassion for our special people. Not once did I doubt a thing they did and received answers to every question I asked. My dad was taken off food when he stopped eating because his body was shutting down. I fed him his last meal. At the very end he had asked to be placed on morphine before he had slipped into the last phase of his journey. He became very comfortable and let us know that he was no longer in pain. Even though he could not talk or even really open his eyes, the staff continued to read to him and have a spiritual healer come in because that's what he wanted. We were told in advance when they thought he would die and because of that we were able to be there with him when he did. Even after all these years, I look upon this experience as one of the most beautiful of my life. My father passed away in October 2010 in the Lakeview Home Sharp Hospice Care. I still remember the trauma I experienced when I was half-way across the country and helpless. When I telephoned him, the last words he said to me were, "I'm nauseous, please do what you can." He was alone with strangers when he died. When I spoke with the nurse, at first she didn't know which patient I referred to, even though we had the same last name. When I mentioned the nausea, she giggled and said that maybe a suppository would help, but she didn't know if any were available. No, I would not place a loved one in such a situation of vulnerability and discomfort. My father was a resolute and strong man. He was not treated well. read more

This place is horrible. My grandfather came here for comfort care during his passing. There was no comfort care. He was so uncomfortable and in pain and they did nothing about it. The nurses were rude. They seemed annoyed that they had to do their job. She was annoyed that she had to stay in the room to comfort and calm down my grandfather. I felt like all they wanted to do is drug him up and leave him there alone to die. Then they were upset that he was getting visitors and they kicked us out. They told us to Go HOME. They also called Sharp security because there were to many of us and they felt overwhelmed. They tried to keep us from seeing my grandfather. If you are family oriented, DO NOT send your loved one here because odds are they may pass lone. Just such sad quality of care. read more

My family has very recently had a family member in the care of this staff. The facility was closed for renovation, but the staff was available for my mother and my family and they came to our home in a location in the outskirts of East county. The professional CNAs. LVNs and RNs that we had assigned to Mom's care were extremely competent and caring. My mother was a retired RN and knew what true health and comfort care required. She specifically requested Sharp Hospice after seeing what the Parkview staff di for my cousin in May. She knew she would have competent and professional care and specifically asked for Sharp Hospice to help her through her final days. Mom only lived 4 weeks after her diagnosis. Her last weeks and days were very comfortable and she had loving and caring family and Sharp Hospice workers by her side every minute of her last 8 days. The Lakeview facility was closed for renovation so we were fortunate enough to have the staff available to drive to Mom's home, which is exactly what she wanted. Mom were given 7/24 care and kept comfortable, clean and well cared for every minute of that time. The staff was professional, kind, caring, attentive to Mom and the family...they were able to let us family members be FAMILY and spend the last hours of Mom's life with her trying to be at peace and share lifetime memories and not having to care for her.. this was huge; this allowed us to disconnect from the caregiver mode and be FAMILY. People who don't understand what hospice care is all about may think it is cruel or profit based. This is truly not the case. The hospice team specializes in end of life care- they are there to make your family member's transition as comfortable and peaceful as possible for them and for the family. They aren't withholding food and fluids to be cruel or anything of the sort. The fact is, the person who is dying can't process the fluid or drink or the food. The body simply doesn't need it, and it can't absorbed. If you ever feel that way, you should do yourself a favor and ask a hospice Dr. It will give you much comfort. I know my Mom had the best care possible not only from her family but from her Sharp Hospice Team. Thank God there are people that have a calling to do this work. read more

My grandma was sent here in May from Grossmont hospital. She was suppose to be here for only a couple months and then to go back to the nursing home where she resided. Well she ended up dying here only after a week of being here. Every time I came to visit here it felt kinda fishy. They were always watching you like a hawk. Some of the staff are rude and not compassionate at all. My grandma was on a feeding tube and they took that away from her without my families consent. They also gave her high doses of morphine because they "thought" she was in pain ( which wasn't the case). My mom who was her POA asked for them to lower the morphine or for them to take her off it and they just brushed her off. I felt like they did whatever they wanted with my grandmother. I do not recommend this place to anyone. They are not caring or compassionate. I hope no one will bring there loved here unless they absolutely have to. read more

If you love your family member do not place them here. This is a place to be legally euthanized. Do not let the pretty house and beautiful backyard fool you because your loved one will never see it. My Grandfather arrived on Saturday night was complete sound mind and was trying to stay awake to watch jeopardy at 9pm but fell asleep about 8:30pm. His daughter was with him and kissed him to tell him goodbye and she would be back the next day to spend fathers day with him. She arrived late morning and he was in a morfin coma. They claimed he was in pain in the night. He had been in the hospital for a week previous to arriving at this awful place and was never in pain and we asked him frequently. We spent the entire day with him hoping and praying he would wake up and would not allow them to give him any more atriven or morfin. They said he was scheduled for another dose at 1:00. We stayed with him until 5:00 and was concerned he was wet since he had been asleep all day and they had placed him in a diaper ( something he never had been in) They knew when the drugged him up he would not be getting up ever again. They refused to move or change him until they were allowed to give him more medicine because they said it would be painful for him. Our hands were tied there was no getting him back. He lasted just over two days laying there drugged starved and no liquids until he passed. It is incomprehensible how a man of complete sound mind who said he would try this place for a week and talked about needing to rent out his house if he wasn't going home for awhile could be gone in 2 1/2 days. Please don't fall for their sales pitch of caring for your family member and keeping them comfortable unless you understand comfortable is drugged and asleep for 24 hours a day until their body shuts down. My Grandfather was a great man and deserved so much better. The guilt is something we will have to live with the rest of our lives and I hope to be able to help you not make the same mistake by reading my review. read more

The Lake View House is beautiful and peaceful. Unfortunately some of the nurses they have on staff should not be working there. As soon as my Mom arrived she was given morphine and Ativan. When I questioned why she was given Ativan the nurse said "don't you want your Mom to be comfortable?" which was rude and inconsiderate. I told her my Mom's wishes were to be as coherent as possible while managing her pain so she could enjoy her family and friends before she died. It was a constant battle with the nurses wanting to over medicate my Mom. One of them actually said to my Mom "your daughter doesn't want to give you medicine that makes you feel better" and to me "you don't want your Mom to have a good nights sleep?" I was appalled and so angry. Then she wanted me to produce the POA stating that I was not the decision maker. If I made a decision not to turn her or bathe her I was always met with resistance and condemnation. They actually blamed me for some of her compression sores which she was already developing. There were many more instances. But to top it off, when my Mom passed and my Dad and I were leaving I asked the volunteer to get the nurses so we could say thank you. Their response was "can you ask them to wait a few minutes?" So lacking of any compassion or empathy. I had always heard such wonderful things about hospice but this experience was horrible. read more
