I have been sitting at my Moms bedside since last Friday. She is a resident at Lakeview Lodge senior home in West Kelowna. And she is palliative with dementia. In the middle of the night on Saturday, I heard that the care home in Osooyos was being evacuated. From what I understand nearly 100 residents and several care staff were transported in the middle of the middle of the night to safety here in west K. The kindness, patience, and care that I witnessed from all of the staff. ALL of the staff at Lakeview Lodge, and the staff that are being bussed back and forth from Osooyos is amazing! They stepped up!! The LAKEVIEW staff were getting towards the end of their shifts and most likely feeling tired and ready to go home. They received the call and rolled up their sleeves and did what they had to do to make the residents that were displaced feel at home, from housekeeping, care aids, nurses, kitchen staff, right up to the management, they all worked tirelessly to make everyone feel safe, comfortable and at home. I feel that the staff at Lakeview lodge and Mariposa should be commended for their tireless efforts to not only take care of displaced residents but also their own residents and the families of their residents. I have been here for 6 days now. It is a very difficult time for our family as we are losing our beloved Mother to dementia, but I, and my family have been given comfort, kindness and care also, they treat everyone like family. I will never be able to show my gratitude enough for these angels on earth! They deserve to be honoured! Thank you LAKEVIEW LODGE for not only stepping up in a crisis, but for making this care home a home full of love and kindness EVERY DAY!! read more
