Horseshoe Lake Park

I thought our parks were nice in Somerset County but we may have some competition. Whew - this spot…read morewas beyond gorgeous! And we discovered it by accident. Wesley was amped up after his vaccines so I decided to look for a park where we could eat our lunch and enjoy the spring weather. I legit just looked up parks on Apple Maps and chose the closest place. Oh my god - there was a lake - accessible by walking or by car. So many lovely places to park right by the water. An ABUNDANCE of benches. So many beautiful cherry blossom canopies. And dog friendly to boot! We saw elderly couples, teenage friends, young lovers, new moms, athletes, dog dads, people fishing. There's also swimming and aquatics there once the summer rolls around. It was just so perfect. For history buffs, there was also a war memorial to departed soldiers from the area since The Revolutionary War(!!). What a sweet little afternoon break!

some thing for everyone it seems!…read more You'll find a playful area called Imagination Station, shady spots, a little "sprinkler park," fishing spots, and courts for basketball and volleyball. The park has a large 40 × 80-foot pavilion, a covered stage, and a gazebo on "the Island" with benches nearby--ideal for parties, ceremonies, or even just relaxing with family, That's where we had our picnic--enjoying lunch with a view of the lake. this ares also marked as Roxbury Rotary pavillon. Concert/big gathering, and Roxbury's Memorial Day Parade and ceremony spot. The grounds are tidy and well-maintained, with scenic views of the horseshoe-shaped lake that's especially beautiful at sunrise or sunset It is a relaxed and welcoming spot for families, friends, and big gatherings. From playgrounds to trails, sports fields to peaceful lake views, it offers a bit of everything.

FLG X Adventure Course - New Jersey

(On Father's Day, no less. When I was hoping I could keep up with my kids and at least finish the "advanced elevation" course.) That being said... we had an absolute blast. (Myself and the Mrs. were beaten and bruised and battered and sore afterwards, but we loved it.) The weather wasn't ideal (cold and rainy) but I think that was a blessing in disguise. The workers and guides were all incredible. (They were all supportive, friendly, and passionate about the adventure we were about to jump into.) Each course got a wee bit higher and more challenging and within the actual course I appreciated their 'method to the madness' - they'd break up the taxing (physical) stuff with a zipline as a 'breather' before you had to start to hustle again on some crazy shifting logs or cargo netting. As someone with a bit of experience over the years (ziplining at Hunter Mountain, Ausable Chasm in the Adirondacks, TreeEscape at Mt. Creek) FLG X was by far the most exacting. (But take that with a grain of salt... if you're not in the AARP age range - like myself - you might have a blast and be able to reach the Black Course, including those daunting monkey bars!) Worth every penny, for sure. (Pro tip: make sure you bring or buy a pair of rugged gloves... they're essential.) "GUIDE! GUIDE! GUIDE!"

Today our adventure led to this place . I always watched my wife zip line in Florida and Louisiana…read morebut i was to scared Finally i promised my wife i would go and give it a try Ive been recovering from some bad trauma from 2011 and finally i prepared myself for this day im not fully recovered but i was able to do a few zips lol. Im also horrified of heights but i was determined I went through a brief video about the corse and some safety. The young lady from the desk gave a excellent training on safety and proper use of the equipment Then my wife and i was introduced to Matthew our guide Matthew explained everything step by step as we went along My wife had plenty of experience and with Matthew we felt safe for myself and my wife I took my time climbing the latter and Matthew assured me i secured and safe He really gained my trust . I had to take my time and rest for two to five min at a time and Matthew really gave me the confidence i needed to continue Im 60 years old i not old but iam a little broken lol I was a little dehydrated i needed water i thought i was in trouble but no Matthew asked one of the other highly trained staff to get me a bottle of water After that i zipped a few times with no issues i was doing really good. But my arms were going dull because of some prior injuries Matthew helped go down the ladder and i was ok Matthew is a very calm individual professional who knows what he is doing you can tell he had the best training. He really made my experience great I have to add it wasn't very busy so thank god The staff is excellent and these young men and women run a tight ship safety is their priority and second is for their guest to enjoy themselves. The zip line course is great for any level my wife said this was the best one yet and she has been to many. If i can do it i think most people can to Use common sense, listen to the guides they are there for you I cant ever do this ever again because of my injuries of a bad accident i had in 2011 but this was on my bucket list I always wanted to scuba dive but that dream is only a dream But i got to zip line and at no point at all i wasn't in any kind of danger Thank you Matthew for doing your job above and beyond of any on my expectations The harness and the clips and all the safety equipment are the best . You have to listen to the guides have common courtesy and have patience and use the equipment properly and pay attention to what you are doing Its not all to difficult trust me im not to bright and i had a great time Matthew you are a true champ and you will succeed anything you do. I will be for ever grateful i will be recommending this FLG X to everyone. One more important thing thank you so much for making sure my wife and the rest of the quests are safe and everyone was enjoying themselves Great corse also. The corse and zip line are the best its a must try All the staff are professionals and they all will keep you safe Thank you guys so much forever grateful for the experience CHEF RAMOS

This past weekend we had rain and ended up at Sports Galaxy all the way out in Hackettstown. For those that don't know, Hackettstown is way out in bear country...in the boonies. Sports Galaxy is a nice indoor turf facility with an 80'x100' field area that they can break down into different sizes, two batting cages and a party room. The owner and staff here were really great and gave the team some additional space and time on the turf after batting practice. I still don't know why a great facility like this is way out in Hackettstown, but I'm glad we got to use it. There are quite a few facilities like this that have sprung up around the state as soccer, softball, field hockey, football, lacrosse, etc have started to become year-round sports. Some of these facilities are too small and some are huge. Sports Galaxy falls in the middle. I hope these guys are successful out where they're located because the seemed like genuinely great people running the place.

If you're tired of bowling and arcade games, why not try axe/hatchet throwing? It's a fun,…read morestress-relieving group activity that allows you to bond with other people. Stumpy's Hatchet House is the first indoor axe throwing venue in the US. We visited the Fairfield location on Route 46 West. It's located inside a large office complex that has plenty of parking. The entrance is in a little corner. It may look small at first, but looks are deceiving - it's a lot more spacious inside. Upon entering, we were greeted by a friendly staff member in the lobby/check-in area. The ambiance and decor is ON POINT! It's a very rustic atmosphere with a lumberjack theme - you'll feel like you're in a cozy cabin. Take some time to look at their wall decor and merchandise. Reservations (deposit required) are highly recommended, especially for larger groups on the weekends. They do accept walk-ins, but only if there's available room. We came on a Sunday at 5pm without any reservations and it was surprisingly empty. You can book for 1-3 hours. Smaller groups (4 and under) are booked for 1 hour, while larger groups (5 and over) are booked for 2 or 3 hours. Pricing is based on how many hours you book for and is charged per person. They also have a 20% discount for military and first responders. We paid $60 for an hour ($30 each for 2 of us) and signed our waivers. Stumpy's has 10 hatchet pits, each with two targets and plenty of room for the participants. There are tables, chairs, and comfy sofas. It's BYOB (beer + wine only) and you can even bring your own food. They have a "bar" with light snacks and soft drinks available for purchase. An axe throwing instructor gave us a tutorial on safety, how to throw the axe, and how to use the interactive game system. Unfortunately I forgot his name, but he was incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable, and made sure we were enjoying ourselves. He checked in on us and gave us some tips/suggestions to correct our form. You can simply hurl your axes at the target or you can choose from a variety of interactive hatchet throwing games on a touch screen system. In addition to axe throwing, they also have darts and giant games (like Jenga). It took awhile for me to get the hang of it.... but I finally activated the lumberjack in me and got around to hitting a couple of bullseyes!!! This was a fun experience overall. The atmosphere was lively, music was good, and the interactive games kept us entertained for an hour. I recommend trying axe throwing as a way to bond with people over some friendly competition or to release stress in a productive manner! Not to mention... it's also a great work out ;) Put that upper body and core to work... and hurl that axe like you mean it!

It took a while for my friend and I to get the hang of it, but our husbands, who had been before, did well. After a good hour I finally became adept There was cornhole, jenga and shuffleboard. It was nice to break up the throwing. The couches were comfy too. They sell some snacks and drinks but the place is byo. They offer ice if needed. We saw some groups get pizza delivered. Would definitely return!
