Once you turn off the main road onto Rim Rd, which is a dirt road, nothing to crazy and I'd imagine easy enough for most automobiles. There is then a large dirt lot probably half a mile with trailhead map and info. Bonus no fee to park in the lot! The route has a bit of elevation, but for the most part features wide trails and pretty casual. It is a tad rocky, but my group did it in tennis shows or lifestyle boots. It is a loop trail, with a straight start an option to go left or right, the signage isn't great so we ended up doing a five mile hike instead of a three, but c'est la vie! There are trail markers they just are far and few in between. Service also is not great and sporadic, so Iw ould recommend downloading ahead of time. The hike featured lots of woodsy landscape a tons of wildlife footprints, markings and birds. It wasn't the best hike I have ever done, but a great option for those who want to get outdoors, have an easy approach or drive in and mellow hike that I personally find appropriate for most ages. Also dog friendly!

This visit was during the covid-19 pandemic…read more We saw a sign for Pintail Lake and had to take a look. Pintail Lake is more of a wetland than a lake. It is known as the Allen Severson Wildlife Area. It's located on the east side of AZ State Highway 77 aka Penrod Road. It is about 3.5 miles north of Deuce of Clubs on the right as you leave Show Low. There is a decent gravel road in about 1/2 mile to a parking area. Admission is free. The wetland was created by Forest Service, City of Show Low and the Az. Department of Game and Fish. The Show Low wastewater management uses treated affluent to create it. The marshes help treat and purify the water, and serving as a wetland that attracts birds and wildlife. I gave it 5 stars because the city created a really great place for wildlife as well as cleaning the affluent. Allen Severson consists of two small artificial marshes including Pintail Lake and South Marsh. Pintail consists of 3 ponds with 14 nesting islands, while South Marsh is a resting and feeding area. Pintail Lake contains 50 acres of water within a fenced area of 250 acres, which South Marsh fluctuates from 15 to 50 acres of flooded meadow. On the wetlands, we saw a couple kinds of ducks and a blue heron. A nice wide trail leads to a viewing deck and a sort of concrete 'blind' where you can watch the waterfowl without being seen. Its about a half mile walk and there are interpretive signs and benches to sit and enjoy the scenery. There is wheelchair access on the trail. There is a porta-potty. I definitely recommend this place for birders, though, you can see most of the same birds on Show Low Lake or at Fool Hollow. It is another place to get out where fewer people go and you can relax during the covid-19 pandemic. Next time, I will bring my Birds of Az book and binoculars. I suggest going early or later in the day because there isn't a lot of shade. It was getting warm when we went out and couldn't stay long.

However they…read morecall it a RV Resort but in all honesty it's a vacation village of privately owned park models. They rent out vacant lots for RV guest. The park management was very courteous and yes the WiFi was very fast. There are a couple small issues that may be bigger issues for some like there are no bathrooms and shower but let's be real, if you have a motorhome or travel trailer you really don't need them you should have your own. Trees are a issue for satellite and the cable tv inputs are only for long term guest and residents. The BIG issue is that the park roads are extremely narrow with some corners cannot be made with a large RV. In our short time stayed I met a lot guest that hit trees or rocks on street corners and RV spaces corners. It's very difficult while maneuvering the narrow streets and sharp corners to the your rv spot. This park is not Big Rig friendly. I however have been RVing for over 20 years and did manage extremely carefully and cautiously with a great deal of stress maneuver our 45 foot Prevost H3 through the park. Several streets the management will even warn you that a simple right or even left turns cannot be made. Unfortunately as friendly as the staff was and as beautiful as the park is I would never try my luck again taking our bus there again. We had a great stay but it is only by the grace of God I was able to get in and out without damaging our Coach. In conclusion I highly recommend this park for smaller RV's and trailer but Big Rigs use extreme caution and be for warned.

3.5/5 stars overall…read more We were looking at RV Parks in Show Low, AZ area and came up with only 2 that fit our needs but on different ends of the spectrum. One was a bit upscale with lots of activities but less trees or nature. The other was Rainbow Forest RV Park. The park claims to be in the largest stand of Ponderosa Pines in the world. It is natural and tons of trees. It is close to Rainbow Lake. The sites were not as large though and there were almost no amenities and no organized activities. It is a beautiful place and would be an amazing place to stay. Rainbow Forest RV Park is a good choice to stay. It all depends what you are looking for in a park.

Some are for sale by owner or real estate agencies. The prices are a bit higher than many parks because they will own the site, as well. I definitely recommend this park. There are 2 areas to fish from. They have a Jon Boat, peddle boat, and kayaks that are available for free on a first come/first served basis but only during office hours 9-4pm. There is a bigger boat for rent but it was broken. There were lots of trees and shade which we liked. We stayed in the Ash cabin. It was not great. It is old. The "comfort zones" which we later found out were heaters were on and set to 80° when we arrived. It was very warm inside when we arrived and we didn't figure out until too late that we were turning the heaters down to cool things off not off. There were no manuals to help instruct us on temperature control and we had to text the after hours number to get help. It took 2+ days to cool this place down. They encouraged us to open windows at night but not many of the windows (none upstairs) had screens. There is no cooling unit upstairs but they brought us some box fans which didn't help much. The plumbing upstairs was slow and had to be snaked because the sink wouldn't drain. Fridge took some time to cool down but then worked fine. Couches are worn and you sink down into them. We read that every cabin has a fireplace but ours didn't which was disappointing. There was 1 smart tv. We tried to log into Disney but someone else was already logged in. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling but then the TV needed a pin that we didn't have. WiFi worked well. The kitchen was clean and had what we needed. The blinds are dusty. We probably wouldn't stay here again unless there were some significant updates.
