I loved the rocks people paint and leave behind as well. I have done that in the past with my 3 boys. Love the idea and charm of it! Reminds me to do it again. I felt refreshed and enjoyed my 3 mile run!! The trails were marked with little white signs and I didn't feel unsafe. It got tight a couple times with some kind folks walking dogs and I'm a huge dog person- so doesn't bother me and I was able to squeeze past them without them needing them to move much in the skinny portion of the trail we happened to be crossing at the same time. I think they appreciated. Anyway, beautiful hike and is do it again! Looking for another trail to do today before we leave back to the Valley in the AM. I don't want to leave!

The water level was low and this was our first time fishing here, but I'd definitely recommend coming here, even if it's just for a walk. Make sure to check which fishing regulations are enforced because they change seasonally.

It worked! If you go, read up on the regulations for fishing there. Barbless hooks, no lures, no live or scented bait, and possibly catch-and-release only. There are public restrooms when you enter the creek, but be ready to hike a bit as you will want to hit all of the hot spots! On a scale of 1 to 10, monster trout here! (shhhhhh....don't tell anyone. The boat is well cared for , clean , canopy was a plus , easy to operate & bring drink / snacks along . Great day on the water with the ability for everyone to do what they wanted! Running at over 7,000 feet was harder than I anticipated…read more Yes, it's summer and it is over 110F in Phoenix. Race at the high country is the only way to run a half marathon in July-August. Temperature in the morning was about mid 60F. It really got hot during a race and I think it was very close to being in the low 80F, still a lot cooler than Phoenix but hot enough to make you want to give up. It was about 3 hours drive from Phoenix. Race packet pick up was easy. This is not a big race, they even made the bib pick up available on Thursday in Phoenix. Volunteers working there were very friendly and restaurant recommendation received was nice. Race morning: Park your car at the finish line area and take their bus to the start line. Bus starts as early as 4:30am. Bus ride was about 30 minutes. They had breakfast ready at the start line (bagel, banana and water melon). Plenty of porta potty available. You only see queues there right after a bus arrives and it is always nice to have toilet access readily available before the race. Small race and less than 200 runners. First 5 miles are dirt road. After that is paved road. Water/aid station is available every 2 miles. My favorite was at 10 miles where they were giving out icy cold wash cloth. I put it behind my neck for about 10 seconds and I thought it was the best thing ever happened. Near the finish line, they have local high school kids lined up to cheer for you. Finish line is set up at the high school track. Plenty of food and drink s(pizza, sandwich, burritos, banana, water melon, orange, chocolate milk, Gatorade and water) are available. I normally go for hamburger after the race but I got full from eating their food! All the staff and volunteers are very nice, small town feel to it, it was very nice race. Why the four star? They don't give out finisher's medal to all runners. I like collecting this finisher's medal!!! They give out this cheap cup instead. I would pay extra in entry fee so can I have my medal??

Really enjoyed this 18 basket course. All Red tees (A boxes) are scored concrete. Played it in 30°…read moreweather with a little sleet coming down. Fun course with good obstacles and challenges. Complements to the course designers and managers as the T-boxes are well organized, maintained, and laid out. Most tees were so easy to find because they were close to the last basket played. This18 basket course starts near the parking lot and ends at the parking lot. There are four different levels of tees: Red boxes (A box), White boxes (B boxes) and green baskets at each tee placed were further out. The tee areas all had benches and a few had really nice porch benches. They also had large cable spools and other tables or surfaces where you can set your bag down. The tee areas were also ringed with the local rock creating a welcome feel for each tee. As a matter of fact, I'm impressed with how many of the paths that lead to the next tee are lined with the rock. I used my Rovic (Clicgear) cart. I think it would be a 50/50 chance of me using it again here. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great, either. I think a Zuca type cart would do a little worse. The terrain is bumpy and there are areas that are strewn with the lava rock that make it somewhat of a hassle to push or pull your cart over. There were time that, because of a bad throw, I just left my cart on the path or fairway and took a disc and walked to my lie to avoid the bumpiness or rocks. There might be restrooms in the building at the parking lot, but I'm not sure. There are no water fountains so pack your own hydration. Trees everywhere but the course design uses the trees well which makes it fun. Varying levels of elevations. Not all of the White boxes have concrete boxes. My son and I both had fun and would definitely play this course again.
