He opened the store for us and he filled us in on the history of the place and showed us how the mill worked. It was very interesting to us. We bought the grits and cornmeal that had been freshly done the day before. The restroom was locked when I went (has number pad for the campers ) So we had to ask for it to b unlocked. The restroom was very nice . They have a covered bridge and peaceful trails. The trails unfortunately are not marked very well at all. We were afraid we would get lost so we didn't stay in the woods much. They have a camp ground for RVS and plenty of space . You can bring a tent :) Nice, little side trip w/ a bit of history.

A couple miles down the road I crossed paths with yet another sign for Kymulga, to which I kept driving. But then it started weighing on my mind and I decided to GPS it to see how far away it was. 5 miles...I'm early for my meeting, let's give this a try. Arriving at the park they have very reasonable rates ($3.00) and the place (considering it is the dead of winter) is really quite pretty. Only explored for a few minutes, since I needed to get back on the road, but they have disk golf and hiking along with fishing (license is required). Several picnic benches located around the covered bridge. Would make for a fun spot to go do additional exploring. Will definitely plan a day trip here....plus based on the other Yelp reviews there seems to be some good BBQ in the area.

There's a trail around the lake and an additional trail alongside the creek (what used to be a road back in the day). I'm thinking if you do all the trails once, it's close to 2 miles so you can train for a race without getting too bored of the scenery. It is flat with almost no shade though, so be mindful of that. The trail alongside the creek offers a lot of birdwatching & nature observations - we've even logged a rare bird here in the past, an Ash-throated Flycatcher. Safe park patrolled by Oxford PD, clean restrooms & ample parking.

The walking trail is pretty decent which has you going in different directions depending on which part you want to start off with. Certain areas are closed off because of construction, but you still can get a good walk in. We had to hike out and even do a little rock mountain climbing to lower ourselves down to the top of the falls. I even had to lean out on some rocks to take pictures.. First, I don't live in this town but this park kept popping up on my feed as an uncommon wonder in Alabama, only 45 minutes from my house...how did I not know this?! Anyways, I took a nice ride to the town of Montevallo. Immediately, I saw families playing in the water, walking their dogs, sitting on the colorful swings, fishing and playing volleyball. What a great park to play, exercise and just enjoy yourself. There are plenty of benches and tables to sit, eat a meal, play board games, cards and/or relax and watch the flowing water or the bubbling waterfall. Now, let's get to the wonder of these tree carvings. Each tree is a unique piece of art. I can only imagine what goes through the minds of children as they walk through and see the faces and creatures that are so pronounced in these carvings...the stories that are formed in their little minds. Such a place to stretch your imagination! Anyone living in the area should definitely check out this park. I can only imagine the fun that takes place on this beautiful property.

From there you walk on the sidewalk till you get to where the trail goes off to the right and down the hill. The trail is wide and flat and paved. On this particular day, we saw walkers with and without dogs and joggers and someone with a stroller. Very shady through a lot but not all of it. Benches here and there to take a break. A few cool tunnels to walk through that the kiddos will love. Round trip from the parking area was 3 miles. Can't wait to come back. The dogs loved it!
