Got a Groupon to try archery for the first time and so glad we gave it a try! Our instructor, Kate, was super sweet and helpful. We asked a lot of questions and got great answers. Overall had a great experience and would suggest this place to anyone curious to learn about archery or to those more experienced - seemed like they have allot to offer!

Fun in the range!

The range itself is fantastic. Unfortunately, the staff tend to overstep, and often appear less…read moreexperienced with firearms than the people paying to shoot. Customer service also leaves much to be desired. When I politely asked about a military discount--something many businesses choose to honor--the response I received was, 'this isn't Applebee's.' As a Purple Heart recipient, I found that dismissive and unprofessional. There are much better ways to address veterans than with sarcasm. Also for the majority of their firearm prices it's about 100-250 dollar markup from the majority of other shops in Maine.

I did come with my cousin, who owns a few guns. So as far as renting guns from Howell's, I don't know. I do know you can. But cost, and paperwork, I don't know. Now, for my experience. First we gave our drivers license, and we had to sign a document which we scanned the QR code and initialed the appropriate areas. Then we watched a short video on gun safety. You do need to wear protective eye wear and earplugs and ear head ware too. My little ear plugs kept falling out. I have small ears. So I wore the head ear ware. We were given a lanyard that said range 2 lane 7. We went in our room and found our lane. We were the only ones there. We did rent the lane for 1 hour. You can choose whatever time you need. Between me and my cousin, an hour was plenty of time. A little about me. I'm scared of guns. I don't have arm muscles. I'm like nervous about the kick back, I mean, all the things. I did once shoot a riffle with L.L. Bean years ago. So I know a little, but not enough, and still scared. This isn't pop pop like you see on tv, this is a full blown bang bang. Bob! Oh my word. That man, you know he's passionate. He had so much patience with me, and gave such great instructions. No complicated words and gun lingo. He was just an outstanding human being. He watched me so carefully, he gave instructions on how to hold the gun. My thumbs needed to be like stacked side by side. And he would watch me shoot, then he said, okay, looks like your grip is good, but try twisting your left wrist upward a little, and I would do it, and sure enough, I shot better. I was getting a lot of kick back and my little girly arm muscles just started to fatigue, so he said, try leaning in a little with your whole upper body. I mean, everything he said just made me better and better. He was so kind in his directions, I felt so comfortable and more relaxed as I was learning and learning more. And as I changed my grip, or my stance, and making sure I lined up the 3 dots, and keep everything level, and breathe, and squeeze the trigger. I was getting better with practice and not feeling so nervous. And really, Bob just made me feel more relaxed. I had my cousin to guide me as well, and Bob, so I felt like I had a great support team during my hour. My cousin, dang, he was good. But he's been shooting guns his whole life. Highly, really, highly recommend this place for anyone who wants to try it out. Practice, but most of all learn and respect guns. Price wise. 2 people, an hour, box of bullets and 2 targets, and 2 earplugs. Like $80.00 we had our own guns, but you can rent theirs. I basically got a personal instructor, and that's priceless. Thank you all for giving me a whole new respect and education for guns. I appreciate you ALL!

He is patient, personable, and highly knowledgeable. He supplies all necessary equipment for archery tag as well. Would be awesome for a birthday party - were kids as young as 3 or 4 in the game we had going. Was impressed enough that I hired him for private lessons for my 5yo son - unfortunately a a bit too young at the time to stay focused and really wanted to have a playdate with a new person- and Luke totally rolled with it! So I hired him for my own lessons. He gave guidance on equipment- including what was really required and what was an unnecessary upsell. He was willing to do the lessons at my house or his (easier young-kid free so often met at his). His location had both a garage (great for rainy days) or outdoor area to shoot with obvious longer range. As an instructor he is easy to ask questions, far from over-bearing and has a great way of giving feedback and what to focus on. Taught me some great tricks to help train my wrist to be positioned correctly and focus on follow through. Absolutely a pleasure to learn from and work with. If you are a novice just getting into it, have experience and need some fine tuning or an 8+ year old that wants to learn, or a gathering with a fun twist, I would highly recommend Luke Caviness and Central Maine Archery Tag

Obviously I would never hold that against the store or let it affect their rating. However, when I went inside and explained to the greeter that a vehicle had been hit and asked if she wanted to check whether the victim was one of their employees, she said that employees typically don't park in that lot, customers do, and seemed very unconcerned. When I said I just wanted to let someone know in case the victim came inside and could she tell them that I called the police and gave them the person's license plate, the employee asked me if I wanted her to call a manager out. I was just really put off by that as this is the first point of contact for people entering the store and I just genuinely wanted to try and help. We did spend some time in the store and in the compound. I like that they have an entire section where you can customize products and gifts and have them embroidered. I haven't seen that before and I thought it was really neat. I didn't care for any of the products that they were offering at that time which qualified for the embroidery, but if that's something you're looking for, they offer it here. They also had dog items and the store is dog friendly. We brought our pup in with us but again she just didn't find any toys that were the right size or that she was interested in. The trip here was kind of a bust for us but I can see why some people might enjoy shopping here. We were told by another traveler that this is a great place to stop for deals, but I didn't see many of those either. There's a campus comprised of multiple buildings and that was a bit confusing. It also seems like it would be easier just to have everything under one roof, but that's just me personally.

If you have ever been…read moreto a Cabela's it's kinda what you'd expect just not quite as over the top as some of the extremely large locations. Anything outdoors wise and hunting/fishing it is a solid option. Likely paying more than some other avenues of buying the items, but maybe you can get lucky with a sale. They have staff as soon as you enter trying to sell you on being a member and what not, annoying but can walk past them. It was nice enough to browse for awhile and waste time. Despite not being the largest Cabela's it is still very large. Also for yourself or if you have young ones seeing the animal displays is a great reason to stop by as well. I suspect the quality here has gone down in some part back when Bass Pro Shops acquired Cabela's considering they were the biggest competition of each other. Leading to a worse deal for us the consumers. Potential to be a favorite store for some!

I was shopping for my other 1/2 who loves Hawaiian style shirts. One of the staff was in the area, he assisted in my finding the perfect shirts & I bought him shorts plus a few other ditties. The gentleman in glass wear assisted in tightening my sunglasses & kindly cleaned them. The guy in menswear was more than helpful. The checkout pro heard a big crash when I was pulling gear out of my cart at his register. Those big candles make a thunderous noise. Oops. He was super cool & I was checked out quickly. I will return to add their names. All 3 deserve kudos for their professionalism & kind temperament. They are a +plus+ for Cabela's!! I'm sure they've some doozies which in fact happened to me at a 2nd visit. I saw a very young female in an outfit made more for "street-walking" opposed to Cabela's outfitters. Wearing a barely there outfit leaving too much hanging around with a pair of 4" pumps teetering through the aisles wasn't working. If the fit was more fitting all the more power. Some parts are better left unseen. With that being said I've likely dealt with variable situations in my youth. (My mother would call this unbecoming rip ) Cabela's is great!! Ty!!!
