Copper Creek Pub & Alehouse

Copper Creek Pub & Alehouse

I ordered a Black & Bleu Burger with fries for pickup, and overall, the experience really missed…read morethe mark for me. The service was awkward from the start. I called to place the order, and the guy couldn't hear me. When I called back, there was silence on the line until I said "hello" a few times, followed by a blunt "Yeah, what can I do for you?" slightly off-putting, but I placed the order. When I arrived, the place was empty and looked clean. The food was ready, and I was in and out quickly. As for the food: The Fries: These were excellent. They were hot, well-seasoned, crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. I really enjoyed them. The Burger: This was the letdown. I got the Black & Bleu, and while the toppings (bleu cheese, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onion, brioche bun) were fresh and tasty, the meat itself was lackluster. They looked like two smash patties, but they had zero crust and absolutely no seasoning. No salt, no pepper, nothing. Honestly, if it weren't for the toppings, the burger would have been hard to eat because the meat was just plain and bland. I ate it because I was hungry, but for a "Pub and Ale House," the burger really needs to be seasoned properly. Between the awkward service and the flavorless patties, I can only give it 2 stars.

Irv's Basement Bar - It's the hanging brassiere's for me

I made the trek with some buddies the day before the 2025 home opener, and it did not disappoint. We were immediately greeted by a young man who directed us downstairs, and said "Irv will be down in a minute, make yourselves at home." We descended into the basement of this unassuming waterfront house, and there he was. 101 year old Irv, emerging from the shadows like an old wizard from your favorite sci-fi movie, almost like Yoda. He politely and softly asked us what we wanted, and proceeded to serve us the best round of Natty Bohs I may have had in my life. This bar isn't like your neighbor's basement bar - it's a full bar with a pool table, full service rest rooms, a functional jukebox, and a lot of the charm you'd find in your favorite dive bar. The only thing you won't find at your favorite bar is Irv. At 101, he's sharp as a tack. Funny, with a lifetime of stories. Sign his wall, by a t shirt or shot glass, admire the bras hanging from the ceiling, and soak in what could be a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you, Irv.

You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Friends of ours said we should check out…read moreTuckers so wife and I stopped in the other day around 6pm. Walked in and maybe about 10 customers with some at the bar and some at the tables. We went up to the bar grabbed a couple of seats and bartender asked what we wanted. We let her know it was our first visit to which she replied with an unenthusiastic "...welcome". That was it. I then asked what draft beer they had and she condescendingly let me know that "we don't have draft beer". Maybe it's just me but when people come into a bar that doesn't have a kitchen or draft beer for the first time the bartender/server might want to lead with those 2 tidbits of information. Also maybe 1. Since you don't have draft beer, is there other stuff you don't have that most people would think would be there? 2. How does the ordering food work with the food truck? Do we go get it ourselves or do we order inside? 3. If we're there during happy hour, which I think we were (I'm still not sure) maybe let us know what the food and drink specials are. 4. Even if we're not here during happy hour, since it's our first time there maybe you let us know when happy hours and specials are anyway for future reference. As for the rest of the visit, we got 2 beers and listened to the bartender break down boxes and complain to other staff the whole time. I guess we'll try them again now that we know the deal.

Food is okay. Ambiance is an underwhelming old paneled bar out of the 1960s--could be cool in that…read moreregard, but unfortunately it is just a shabby, completely non-diverse, locals dive bar. Service is disappointing, with the most frustrating aspect being the surprise when I went to pay my tab on a credit card, the bartender explained that "the tips can only be in cash" as she handed me my already closed-out ticket and credit card slip to sign. I asked her to explain. She stated that "it was the owner's policy". What that really means for those of us with an accounting background, is that the owner cares so little about his employees' future, and cares so little about his country and the state of Maryland, that he is deliberately hiding the tipped wages that the public provides to his wait staff/bartenders. So, at the end of each month, he deposits far less into the Maryland State Unemployment Tax account than he is required to and far less into the Federaul Unemployment Tax Account that is required. Additionally, he gets away with paying less of the employer portion of the FICA taxes. And, when the employees reach retirement age, they will have a smaller Social Security check because his illegal choice to conceal their actual earnings means their SSA account shows lower wages.

02/20/26 5 Stars **…read more Wife and I were in Annapolis for a doctor's appointment, and afterwards she asked, "Where are you taking me for lunch?" I jumped on Yelp and started searching. I had heard about a seafood place in Severna Park, but I wasn't in the mood for seafood. That's when I came across Betty Lou's. As soon as I looked at the food photos, I knew that's where we were headed. It was about a 20 minute ride from Annapolis not bad at all. Betty Lou's is located in a shopping center. There were a few cars in the lot when we pulled up, but I wasn't sure if they were there for the restaurant or other businesses nearby. When we walked in, there was one person sitting at the bar. We asked if we could sit there, and the bartender (don't remember her name) was very pleasant and welcoming. She thanked us for coming in, and when I mentioned I found the place on Yelp, she explained that everything is made fresh to order. They have an excellent selection of craft drinks on the menu, the assortment of cocktails and wines that look very good. My wife ordered an iced tea, and I had the Jimmy Red Old Fashioned. The drink looked fantastic, and she took her time carefully measuring each ingredient. That's how cocktails are supposed to be made balanced and flavorful, not just tasting like straight liquor. If I wanted that, I'd just order bourbon neat. For lunch, my wife ordered the meatloaf with collard greens and roasted potatoes. I had already decided on the chicken pot pie after seeing it online. I did find it a little strange they don't offer mashed potatoes as a side with meatloaf, that would've made it a home run in my opinion. When the food arrived, everything looked excellent. The pot pie was larger than I expected compared to the pictures, and the meatloaf was a generous portion as well. After the first bite, I can honestly say it was one of the best chicken pot pies I've had loaded with tender chicken, carrots, onions, celery, and a rich, flavorful gravy. And the pastry crust? The BEST I've ever had. It was big enough that I had leftovers for dinner. My wife's meatloaf was tender and flavorful, and the collard greens were packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. The roasted potatoes were just okay again, mashed would've put it over the top but that's just personal preference. She also had plenty leftovers for dinner. The food was great, the décor was nicely done, and the service was excellent. If this place were closer to home, it would definitely be a regular spot for us. We need something like this down in Calvert County. Overall, if you're looking for a great meal and well-crafted drinks, Betty Lou's is absolutely worth the drive even if you live a little ways away.
