This 80 acre park offers a miniature version of the great outdoors minus the camping (park hours are 7am to dusk every day). I've visited several large parks in Houston, but this one stands out with how much natural shade it provides. There's something for everyone here: fishing, volleyball, swings, campfires, canoeing, etc. I enjoyed walking the trail before having a peaceful 20 minute meditation session on the swing chair. Reflecting back, it's probably worth bringing a friend for the latter next time. Several signs warn of alligators and snakes throughout the park, and part of me felt preoccupied with the danger of an animal sneaking up on me while I closed my eyes. Apparently armadillos roam this area too? I gotta come back to the trails and see for myself next time.

He gave me a tour, and encouraged me to come by anytime. Triathletes are permitted before and after hours, and he instructed me on how to pay the $10 entry. Park hours were 10a-5p when I went but you can swim anytime. You can pay via QR code or cash. You do need to sign a waiver, but only once. Your first time I recommend stopping by during hours. There is a place to rinse off. There were several other swimmers when I was there. I felt safe and comfortable the entire time. The best part was the water! It was warm of course given the time of year but it was beautiful. I much prefer this to Lake Longhorn. Two laps is 1.2mi, four is 2.4.

While there are nice picnic tables, there are no designated secure areas to leave your belongings while in the water, so it's best to keep all valuables in your vehicle. Lots of geese, ducks, and other local wildlife are plentiful around the lake. Once you're in the water in your boat, you will likely be greeted by a goose or two during your adventure! Fun spot for family and friends. Nice outdoor escape in the heart of the city.
