Trinh was amazing! She's so kind, patient, soft spoken, and honest. The place was clean with a nice vibe and great playlist of songs that was relaxing ! Originally I wanted a pink with certain design and I asked Trinh what she thought. She said "you shouldn't it's not nice." Lol I love the honesty though because the dip I got and her design was 1000 times better than what I wanted! They don't upcharge, no hidden charges, just an honest place. Parking: easy 2 hour metered parking right in front Location: in a plaza for easy access to shabu, Korean food, and boba. Price: $32 to remove and redo my gel nails Lan did my nails and offered gel and also "cat eye" styles, which look galaxy like. I might give it a try one day. The place is brand spanking new, 6 months to be exact. It's clean, spacious, and the chairs and supplies are all shiny. If you come and check in with the iPad at the front 10x, you'll get $10 off. I don't like doing negative reviews, but I had a genuinely bad experience here. I called and made an appointment for dip powder ombré nails and a regular pedicure at 12:30. I drove all the way into the city and showed up early. The whole thing was rushed and steps were missed and she cut my cuticle enough to draw blood. Two other women came in with appointments at the same time and there clearly wasn't enough staff to cover what they had booked for the day. The manager was very abrasive and defensive when I asked her why she had skipped the cuticle trim. She tried to do it after the polish job and ended up cutting my cuticle (see pictures). Then at the end she told me a dip powder manicure was $60 and ombré was $15 extra. I asked her to show me where that was advertised on the price sheet and she said it wasn't listed. She knew I was a first time client and should have explained that what I was asking for was almost double what most salons charge, but she knew she over booked and rushed my service and wrote me off. I love this place!!! Since I'm far from home I can't go to my regular salon, but I'm sure this will be my new spot in SF. Lan, the owner, and the other ladies are so welcoming and relaxing to be around. I'm pretty particular when it comes to my acrylics, so naturally I was a little nervous, but Lan listened carefully and made sure I loved them at every step. When I said I wanted them to look natural, that's exactly what I got!! I will absolutely be back to see them again. EDIT: went back for a second time and won't be going back. I'm pretty particular with how my nails are done, and figured if Lan understood what I wanted last time then this time would be just as good. Granted, I wasn't super clear with the little things I wanted done, but they still weren't up to par. My nails were very thick, one was very crooked, and on another nail you could see my natural nail on the side. Am I supposed to ask for these things to not happen?? I went back and asked for a lot of things: to completely redo one nail and to change the shape and the color of all of them. I also offered to get them off and get a refund but she had the time I guess. After being more clear with what I wanted I ended up with a better result (but really not the greatest). I kept asking if it was possible to do certain things (because I genuinely didn't know) and she loudly and rudely said she'd do whatever I wanted her to do. Obviously she wouldn't have been in the best mood, but come on. I will say, Lan made taking off a freshly applied acrylic nail the most painless experience ever (it was soaking while she fixed the rest of my nails). After 3 hours and $83, I've realized I won't be going back. I can spend roughly the same money at a place with better customer service and less micro-management when it comes to what I want. If you're not as particular as I am, or want a straightforward shape like square, coffin, or oval, go for it, I know they'll be accommodating. But for me, I'll pass. read more

What was bad was our return trip when I recommended my daughter to give the place a try. They told her there was no time to repair a nail (we had an appointment!) and that she couldn't do hard gel (she has natural nails that needed fortifying). She was given a regular gel manicure. When my daughter noticed the shape of one nail different than the others, she asked if it could be shaped the same. The manicurist told her that she's not looking at it correctly and it was fine. Needless to say, my daughter ended up leaving with a manicure that didn't look very good. We've decided that with the cost of the service, it was not worth ever returning. I have had the pleasure of getting my nails done here on a few occasions since the reopening of nail salon services (mid-pandemic? Who even knows where we are in this cycle). I have had a range of services including an express mani-pedi and the deluxe pedicure. Every service I have had has been a wonderful way to decompress and treat myself to a little extra upkeep. The nails techs are always polite, professional, and offer exceptional service. The foot massages are incredible. My nails are exactly what I want and they last for weeks. Best of all, I have felt very safe from the potential transmission of covid due to the protective measures in place including the plexiglass barriers. My initial rave of the place: Finally! A new nail salon where staff clean as they go. It was my first visit today and that's the one thing that i appreciated the most. It's hard to find a salon where staff consistently clean after the debris. Upon walking in, I was welcomed by all staff. It might be because this salon is still fairly new, so they're still on top of their customer service. I do hope that this salon keeps up the amazing cuStomer service as ive been to so many new salons that start off strong (great customer service), but as there business grows, they're quality of customer service decreases. I was searching yelp for a salon that offered dip powder and Lan has got this process down to the T. She shared her knowledge of the benefits of dip powder; it's a more natural way of strengthening your nails without the polish stripping the beds of your nails off. I already had old powder dip on my nails and they had to soak it off (similar to how acrylic nails are soaked off). I think this is why my nails came out to be a little pricier than I expected. I didn't ask because ive never had my nails look so good (and natural!); it was definitely worth the $ I would recommend this place if you're looking for a clean salon, good customer service, and staff who take their time with their craft. There was no soak off at all, just filed down and pulled off with a fake nail extension. My nails were so thin after that even though they were cut as short as they could be, they still bent when i did something as simple as itch my arm. I've been going there for about 4 months. I liked how I was treated as a new client, but as a returning client my wishes and needs weren't met. The location was super convenient for me and I'd stick with them. BUT! Every time my gel was removed in the beginning of my manicure appointment, I was asking to be more gentle, cuz they always seem to be in rush, even though they don't have that many clients. So it was very unpleasant and painful experience removing my gel every time I came for a mani. Don't we go to have our mani-pedi done and relax? Nope... I was sweating while they were removing my gel. I asked to be more gentle, as my nails are sensitive, I wasn't heard though. In my opinion, they have to care about keeping your nails as healthy as possible and it's definitely not their priority. Now look what it resolved into and I don't even know what to do with this nail. Definitely not coming back and wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone. Note: I am rating the eyebrow service, I did not do my nails at this establishment. Waxing services are definitely a "second-class" citizen at Lake Side Nails Bar. To get my eyebrows done, I was taken to a typical room and asked to lay down. The woman then proceeded to place wax on my face, without asking any questions. She seemed to be in a real haste. When she was done, she said "done" and walked out of the room. I wasn't even given a mirror to see the final product. By the time I did get to a mirror, I saw that I still had wax around my eyes. Such a bizarre experience. Finally, when I went to pay, the woman noticed that I wasn't totally content. When she asked me what was wrong, I told her my eyebrows were slightly off. To this point she said, "You came in like that, I just cleaned them up to not give you a bad experience for your first time." ... enough said. I highly recommend Lake Side Nails, and so do my mom and grandma! Our entire 3 generations absolutely love Lan and her wonderful staff. I can not express how happy I am that Lake Side opened up in our neighborhood. If I could give this place more than 5 stars, I would! First of all, this place is spotless! It has so many amazing colors for us to chose from and recently, my mom and I decided to try the gel powder dip technique. This is the only place I have found in the area to do dip (stronger and lasts longer than gel) and I don't think I'll ever do anything besides it! Given my job, I have to wash my hands hundreds of times a day, and sometimes, my gel would chip. The powder dip doesn't chip no matter how many times I wash my hands - seriously amazing! I'm excited for more dip colors to arrive - I'd love to see some bright ones! The massage chairs are wonderful! If there's a short wait, I honestly don't mind. Those chairs are pure heaven and I wish I had one at home! Parking is really easy in the neighborhood and the prices are reasonable (a little higher than other nail places, but you know the saying... The owner, was very distracted and would leave every now and then to go handle business, meaning she would rush through steps. This was my first time trying the dip and my cuticles were never cut, hands never wiped down and powder left on all my finger tips, and I was left with the UV box on my lap with no instructions. I finally got up to pay and asked if I was done. Had to wash my hands as soon as I got home because they were itching from the powder. There were only 3 employees working at the time and they had to turn some people away. My nails turned out amazing! It's a brand new nail salon that opened a couple of weeks ago. I was finally able to go in and try it out, after constantly walking by it before and after work. They offer everything from manicures, pedicures, acrylics, DIP powders, lash extensions, waxing services, limited massage services, and facials. Once you walk in, the salon is nice and spacious, high ceilings, neat, orderly. Also, they have MASSAGE CHAIRS. I live for these. They have a little tablet that you can control it with. So lovely. Because they just opened, their staff is small. They're very dedicated to providing a great experience for customers, especially since they're new. They apparently have another shop in west portal, not sure where, but I'm glad they're not just treating this salon as another branch. New place, new reputation. The owners were there and they are so sweet. They're constantly checking in on various clients throughout their visit. As for the actual service I got, it was a good experience. I had to wait a bit due to the lack of staff but they let me wait in one of those massage chairs so it didn't feel like I waited to long at all. My pedicurist, Kin, was so sweet and very gentle throughout my pedicure. It started off with a soak then they took off my gel nail polish, did the whole cuticle-nail trim-buffing-and the whole shebang. Also a nice foot scrub near the beginning. At the end of the pedicure, I got a light foot and calf massage (yay more massages!) they also used hot stones to help massage your foot and calves? It felt wonderful. The stone might be too hot for you, but just let them know if they don't already ask. Finished off with the nice hot towel. For my gel mani, after the initial soak off of old gel polish, my nails were soaked in some water with a few slices of lime. The owner (I'm so sorry I didn't catch her name, but she's a wonderful woman) also buffed my nails with an e file to kind of smooth out the surface. She was very meticulous about application, making any adjustments as she saw. Also a wonderful arm massage and hot towel. Overall I had a very positive experience. Theyre having a grand opening special right now , don't know how long it will last, but it's 20% off. Go try them out, you won't be disappointed.
