They serve cheap drinks in plastic cups and comfortable seating. The double doors opened into a larger area with the stage, another bar, and seating along the back wall. It was a great show, but I thought the sound was somewhat distorted. I'm not sure what the issue was, but I saw everyone having a great time. We were able to stand pretty close to the stage. They deserve special recognition for booking Charlie R., as he doesn't come up north too often from Texas. After the show, he was led away for the meet and greet, which was organized and such a treat.

The IL State Fair offers so much to do!…read more First off they have regular events here all year round plus the annual state fair! During the yearly fair they offer it all . How about a cow made of pure butter? They have all sorts of different animals to pet. They have a chair lift that moves people around. Lots of Ferris wheels and the fair foods. Mmmm! All those good things coming soon. On the fair grounds they have relics to the past of Route 66. Do you remember the drive in? Those days! They have died out but they have captured what the drive in looked like. They have pieces of Route 66 history that was headed to be destroyed, they have saved it here. Walk in the past days of those road trips that we have taken. You can share them yet again with those who have not seen them. Now we were here to see a bike show. Every lap around the track the bikes wiz by so loudly you cannot even think . Now how about that for an afternoon. Parking is free and the fair grounds are open year round. Now what's stopping you the joys of the fair are upon you.

I would like to see more booths selling items like the old days, Buck and Bum, toy farm equipment etc. I also miss seeing the large farm equipment display. There doesn't seem to be as many entries in the arts and crafts, maybe people just aren't doing that anymore. I don't recall seeing an Illinois Wine tent. The Neon Experience was amazing with the newest addition of a corn dog. A display of products made in IL would be great. I stumbled in on the Chilli cook off, and sampled some great chilli, not sure if that was a daily thing. Having the Tram run through the grounds instead of around the outside would be helpful. The Ethnic Village was great, all the little buildings had something in them, the Gyros are always a favorite. I do miss the yearly Ethnic Fest over Labor Day weekend. I appreciate the free day for seniors and the $3 entry the 2 other days I was there. The music in the beer tents didn't seem to start until much later in the afternoon and the stage by the barns on the way to the grandstand didn't have any seating which would have been nice. Corrections did a wonderful job with all the landscaping. I miss the flower entries, maybe they could have an entry for flower shops to display their creations. Having a cooling center nearer the middle of the fair instead of the Illinois Building would be helpful to seniors and people with small children, it used to be in the Emerson Building. I don't believe that building is being used at all, it held the flower arrangements at one time and would be a great place for the Governors Wife's set up with the children's activities if its still air-conditioned. The State Police presence was great, the couple I spoke to were kind and helpful. The grounds were well kept. Cold water was available at all the government and political tents. Conservation world was super, the raptor show put on by World Bird Sanctuary was amazing.

Susan Lawrence Dana (1862-1946) was an heiress to a silver mines fortune . She was widow in 1900 & had complete control over her household & fortune. She was a leading philanthropic figure in Springfield. Dana decided to completely remodeled her home commissioning Frank Lloyd Wright. Her new home reflected her flamboyant personality & was designed for display & entertainment. The concept of "expanding space" was evident throughout the house with windows placed to continually draw the attention to the outside. Wright designed approximately 450 art glass windows, skylights, door panels, sconces & light fixtures for the house. Thomas, a medical publisher. Thomas lived here & used this home as his publishing company. He sold the house to the state for a million dollars. It became a historic site. Jennifer shared that the house is still being utilized for social community events.
