We aren't golfers or fishermen. The state park had nice hiking available but other than a day trip there, not much activity. If you're looking for something out of the way, quiet and relaxing then this is a nice spot. I'm sure with better weather there is more but this wasn't my experience. Glad I came though. Not much information was available online, so we called the morning we were interested in renting a pontoon boat and didn't have any trouble finding an available boat. We should have mentioned over the phone that we were interested in bringing our two dogs with us - upon arrival, the gentleman explained that dogs are not allowed to swim in the lake or jump off the boat, and because the boat has outdoor carpeting, wet/smelly dog will make it very difficult to clean. We knew that one of our dogs is a jumper/swimmer and didn't want to take the risk of violating the rules, so we took them back to the Airbnb instead. The gentleman was very nice, patient, and accommodating. He gave great instructions as far as how to drive the boat, where to go, etc. We didn't think we would end up using the full four hour rental but it went by super fast! Upon return, we didn't have any issues with him trying to charge us for anything. Neither the boat nor equipment was super new, it showed signs of wear, but for the most part was well-maintained. We had an awesome day on the lake!

As a coffee lover, having my own Nespresso cappuccino machine was a highlight. When I came across Long Cove, I'll admit I was weary because of the reviews. Well, no other places were available except for Long Cove, so I booked anyway and now I'm hooked! A couple days before my reservation I went to check out the grounds, and Don was very kind in giving us a tour of the property and our actual cabin. Then the day of the rental check in was smooth as everything was already set. My kids set up their inflatable raft and took it out on the beach/lake and had a blast. We had cabin #14 so it was nestled right where the trail is for the beach access, and easy to see what the kids were doing. This particular cabin has 2 porches. One has rocking chairs and long bench seating, and the other porch is large and has a large table for outdoor dining as well. I did bring an additional table to set up food for my guests. Around sunset we walked out to the dock's side where we were able to get great sunset lake views while gathering for my happy birthday cake. Don was extremely helpful in getting us everything we needed for roasting s'mores at the fire pit that night. Too much more to rave about, but this place exceeded my expectations and we definitely plan to return. Having my birthday celebration here was and amazing blessing and extremely worth it, especially with having given my life to Jesus the week prior, and being able to be on the lake. The staff was consistently friendly, welcoming, and accommodating throughout my stay. They were quick to assist with any questions or requests, which made the experience even more enjoyable. One of the highlights was the Gallery Restaurant. The breakfast served there each morning was phenomenal! The outdoor pool was also a highlight as it was relaxing, comfortable, and very well maintained. The service staff frequently checked in with guests, ensuring everyone had what they needed without being intrusive. My only real criticism is the parking fee. The hotel charges $20 per night for parking, which feels unnecessary given the already high nightly room rates. I believe parking should be included as part of the stay, especially at a property of this caliber. Overall, I had a fantastic stay and would gladly return.

Hotel and grounds very well maintained. Love the walkability to restaurants and bars. Room Beds are not up to a luxury hotel standards. I found both beds to be a springy mattress with a worn out pillow top. Quite literally a pain on the back. Bedding is Frette and quite soft and cozy. Bathroom has Molton Brown products. Super bougie brand so I think that is on par with the hotel being luxury. I bring my own shampoo and conditioner because of my 3A curly hair doesn't get along with the shampoo and conditioner. Both the water pressure and hot levels are exceptional. I was not lacking warm water and did actually turn it a bit cooler than my usual setting at home. So I've a bit of a bone to pick on the minibar. There is a listed price for all the items. Great! Was a bit surprised on the bill to find the $3 can of soda and $18 container of dark sea salt chocolates to be listed as $3.99 and $22.41. That's more than the sales tax in Mecklenburg. Upon reading the fine print on the minibar there is a 24% service fee on top of the 8.25% sales tax. Given that the minibar is stocked and no one is running this items to the room like room service, I'm a bit confused on the service charge as anything but a small additional little money grab. Little sneaky and tacky vibes about it. Gallery restaurant I have written a separate 5 star review and very much so like the restaurant. Afternoon tea Afternoon tea I absolutely love and greatly enjoy. Lovely tea and tiered plate selections. This is a must for me, absolutely love it. I've attended with my partner as well as solo. Solo I sat and read a book it was great! Even if traveling solo still a lovely nice experience! Parking I think the price of parking has changed. It is now $20 to self park and $30 to valet. This is all clear on the app and website before booking. Spouse was understandably less than thrilled when he walked out to the car with all our luggage, loaded the car and began to drive to the hotel to pick me up only to be locked into the parking lot. The room key card that opens this parking was deactivated apparently at check out time. Well no one wants to be schlepping around in muggy hot weather at noon to come back to the hotel and find out why it isn't working. He had to have the card reactivated, then walk back to the car, then bring the car up. Waste of time and irritation. Hotel common space I found all common and public spaces clean and tidy. Both elevators have been working, in good service and clean. There is a complimentary coffee and tea station in the bar space in the morning. They also have some grab and go items for purchase. I made tea and drank it on the veranda. None of the grab and go items spoke to me so I went to the gallery restaurant. Spa I've been to the spa last trip and enjoyed my facial and massage. Mani pedi was ok... women's spa space has a sauna and steam room. A quiet waiting area with teas and water. Showers, restrooms and a locker space. Indoor pool Love that they have an indoor and outdoor pool. Super easy for me to get burned so I use the indoor ones. The interior space is quite lovely at the interior pool. A few notes of items needing attention. The rectangular hot tub has quite a thick layer of scrum on the tiles above the water level. Requested additional pillows when checking in ahead of time on the app. Those were not in the room and I had to request them. If you want a tea kettle in room you've to request that and tea. Wish it was easier in app or pre check in to do. I am not sure that we will be back anytime soon as I don't find their beds comfy and relaxing. Hotel, amenities, afternoon tea and brunch overall I like. I wish they would join other properties that had a memory foam type bed with a more firm supportive with slats. We had pancakes at breakfast with pecans and I can truly say that I have never had such amazing pancakes in my life. I love breakfast food and seek it out, but to this day I have not found a comparison to the pancakes at woodlands. I may go again just for the pancakes! The restaurant - it is a five star establishment and I would give it all five stars. The food is presented beautifully, tastes divine and the portion size is perfect. Read on: They let us order room servicez since we arrived late, but that was a JOKE!....We love our fancy dinners-but this was one of those places where the salad was 3 individual inch sized pieces of Iceberg lettuce (1"x1"), with a 'buttermilk foam' and various toppings like fricken pistachios (eww) Oh, 1 of the lil' towers fell over when the waiter wheeled the table into our room, He got all distressed and wanted to take the salad back to the kitchen to have them make another! We were like "Oh, it's OK! OMGoodness, it was crazy to think some people might get upset about that!!" We could only laugh (his Caesar salad was a handful of romaine, that was SHOVED into 2 square 'crackers' that had an open circle in them, the 2 cracker squares were about 2 inches apart....THAT was the 'Caesar salad, and it had a DROP of dressing squeezed onto the plate! Hubby was like "WTF is THIS?" and i said, "Um, thats your Caesar, hun!" Oh yeah, and it had a lil' quail egg on top too.....(barely cooked) too Fricken weird. However, the owner gave one of my vendors incorrect information regarding communication, which wasn't true and felt unprofessional. That's when my experience started to shift. Another thing that bothered me was being asked to pay a damage waiver, then later finding out from my decorator that the owner had been onsite during setup. When I arrived around 7:30 PM for my Halloween photoshoot, the owner was sitting outside in her car. While I was inside taking pictures, she remained nearby. Once I realized she was still there, I decided not to continue my shoot and texted my decorator to come gather her things. Once my decorator came to collect her items, the owner joined us inside and stayed there until we finished, which added to the uneasy feeling I already had. Even though the event itself was canceled and I only used the venue for a photoshoot, I still paid for full-day access and expected to feel comfortable during my rental time. The venue is beautiful, but the owner's approach and lack of professionalism really took away from what could have been a much better experience. Update to Owner's Response: First, let's talk about communication. You were being lazy -- plain and simple. You know we've been communicating through email and Facebook Messenger, and your own response to my message (which I'll gladly post) proves my point. Second, I changed my personal phone number, which I'm under no obligation to share with you, especially since we were already in contact through multiple other ways. Instead of reaching out by email or Messenger like you've always done, you chose not to contact me at all -- and then lied by saying you couldn't reach me. What's worse is you contacted my decorator first, before even attempting to message me directly, and I have receipts of you admitting it. Third, let's address the deposit situation. I was asked to pay a damage waiver while you were onsite the entire time, monitoring everything during setup and throughout the evening. That didn't sit right with me, because if you're physically present the whole time, what exactly is the waiver protecting you from? Also, when we book an event, we're paying for private use of that space during the hours listed on the contract -- not for the owner to hover or interfere. You're supposed to be on contact for emergencies, not stationed inside the venue watching over everyone like a chaperone. Lastly, I don't care if you and my decorator worked well together or if other clients like you being onsite -- I didn't ask for you to be there. My review reflects my experience, not anyone else's.

I was so pleased, that I have already booked the space for another event this year. I am always excited/grateful when supporting small business owners goes well. I can say, without a doubt, that Luxe will be my go to venue in the future.
