I seriously adore this island…read more Small parking area off the main road and its legit in such a random spot that it gets very little traffic which i really appreciate. You walk along the inlet and up a hill, eventually you will on top of the 'mountain' that is also the metro north train tunnel. You can go around one of the fences and sit directly above the tunnel but we aware-- there is no additional fence before the drop. And if you drop..well, um. You dead. But otherwise its super cool to watch the train approach and feel it rumble underneath you. Going along a little further up the trail you will come to an outcropping of an old foundation and what is left of a fireplace and chimney. I believe this was one of the guest houses or the daughter homes belonging to the McAndrew's estate that is directly opposite the island. (That is another great hike with lots of ruins including an old race track, ice house and some old foundations.) Eventually you will start downhill and get to the waterfront which is gorgeous and has a great view of Haverstraw. It's a rocky area but can be traversed with slight caution, in order to skip rocks or fish or even hang out in the water. There's a beat up picnic table or two and some benches around in case you feel like packing a picnic. Please be sure to pick up after yourself though and keep the preserve clean for all! Cans are usually by the exit. No bathrooms either so be one with the call of nature.

Decent restroom facilities are nearby. *Adults- Seating areas to view the beautiful waterfront and stunning sculptures. Please see attached sculpture photos. Saw several men out fishing the day we visited. Across from the park, there's several places to eat. Unfortunately, cleanup needs to be done due to the Canadian geese droppings in the children's section.

For anyone who's into art sculptures, etc., they have a number of them throughout the park, which seems fairly recent and an additional upgrade I'm assuming. The boardwalk near the Hudson River is beautiful, with plenty of room to fit people. Decent views from that area. Some areas are a bit messy, which could be improved upon. This is a great stop in the Hudson Valley.

People are walking their dogs and leaving their half-empty coffee cups all over, tossing single-use plastic bottles wherever they want, leaving packaged food wrappers to blow away in the wind, and having the audacity to pick up their dog's poop with poop bags only to leave the tied off bags laying on the ground. This park is for public use, and on top of that, is inhabited by many wild animals. This is their home, and park patrons are literally trashing it. Please be more considerate of your environmental impact by reducing your waste through use of reusable cups/bottles, and leave the space you occupy looking better than it was when you found it. Otherwise, stay home and trash your own house.

I could not believe the many areas for barbecuing with plenty of picnic tables, charcoal grills, and some areas even had volleyball nets,. Perfect for cookouts, and nice pavilions for events. There is also a beautiful scenic lake where you can rent row boats, and fish. It is also home to the largest pool of all New York State parks that can accommodate 3,500 people.

Travel through the hardwood forests of Marian Yarrow to discover its wetlands, and continue on to Hidden Lake to watch for migratory birds. Just east of the lake, you will find a small stream cascading down a 30-foot waterfall before flowing into Indian Brook. The remainder of the preserve combines rugged and gentle terrain with maturing deciduous forest and a small meadow. Recommendation: the red trail will lead you to the waterfall. Also, the correct address is directly across 508 Mt Holly Rd, not on Todd Rd.

Anyway, this is a pretty small park owned by the Nature Conservancy, part of a trio of parks called the Indian Brook Assemblage. It's about 70 acres in total, and is home to a pretty well maintained network of trails, which are for the most part well blazed. There's one ring trail with a side loop that you can take to make an overall larger loop. It's mostly made up of mixed hardwoods, and there's a little lake in the middle, which is home to migratory birds, so this would make a good bird watching park. There's a connector trail that leads to the adjacent Mildred E. Grierson Wildlife Sanctuary. I wouldn't say that this is really a destination park. There's a small waterfall, but due to the drought conditions, it was not existing at the time we visited. The trails in the park aren't super challenging. I think that if I were able to make a loop that incorporates the other parks in the Assemblage, I would consider it more of a destination. It's definitely a park worth visiting if you live more in the area. Parking is a little bit tight, with about 4 spaces along the roadside.

This park is a wonderful choice in Pawling, considering there's quite a bit to do here. There is a…read moreroad/pathway that's called Holiday Hills Ln, only accessed by authorized vehicles, which follows alongside Green Mountain Lake, and additional trails along it. There are even abandoned barns and buildings along the way, highlighting that. Towards the main parking lot, there is a bathroom house, a mini beach, a tennis court, and even a playground as an alternative. Definitely a must-stop while in Pawling.

Old Field Preserve was created in July 2003 and is owned jointly by the Town and Westchester…read moreCounty, with a conservation easement held by New York State. It is the culmination of many years of effort and cooperation among private citizens, local conservation groups including the Lewisboro Land Trust, and the state, county and town governments. The parcel was originally part of Van Cortlandt Manor, a 86,000-acre tract that ran from the Hudson River to Connecticut. The area was settled in 1776 by Enoch Mead, whose descendants farmed the land until 1974 when it was sold. From 1974-2003, the 100-acre parcel was enjoyed by riders, walkers, cross-country skiers and hunters. In 2003, the town, county, and state bought the parcel with extensive financial assistance from local residents. Over 100 species of wildlife have been observed on the preserve, and it provides increasingly rare old field/meadow habitat for field-dependent species. The trails are open for hiking and horseback riding. Highlights Five fields in various stages of succession, with wildflowers and birds, dogwood blooms in May, highbush blueberries turn color in fall, woods, wetlands, watercourses, and old stone walls, the remnants of an old orchard, magnificent view from the FAA tower (trail leading to tower is somewhat steep), connection to Town Park and Ward Pound Ridge Reservation (see map). Directions Take Rte. 35 to Mead Street. Turn onto Mead, the preserve is located .5 mi. on the right at the intersection of Schoolhouse Road. Park up the lane at the kiosk.
