Great place to hang with the locals listen to live music and enjoy pretty good food. Service was excellent and prices were decent

We went here with and on a recommendation of a friend. She told us the food was great and strictly fried foods, though neither of which seemed quite accurate to me. The view and seating are wonderful. You are sitting outside yet still under cover in case of rain. Service seemed a bit slow, so is not a place to go on your lunch break, but we are all retired and quite willing to sit through the wait and chat while enjoying the view. I only mention it in case speed is important for you. The others all had fish while I opted for a sausage sandwich. It was fine, though I can make one on the grill a bit more to my liking. The fries were not hot and a bit thinner than I like them. They had salt and pepper on them, which tasted fine to me but might not be to everyone's precise taste. The sandwiches and entrees come with a small portion of Cole slaw, which was also fine. Our friend said she takes out of state friends there because it seems to fit their image of Florida, even including the possibility of a gator sighting. We lived here for around ten years so that doesn't quite describe us, but we were glad to spend our lunch with her there.

What a lovely spot! We rode as a group to this spot and felt very welcome as bikers, which isn't always the case. Our server Cynthia was friendly, funny and eager to please. We had the peel and eat shrimp with Cajun seasoning.. it was good, but seemed to lack flavor. We also tried some hush puppies which were ok. The location is so beautiful surrounded by big cypress trees with Spanish oak draping down and the sound of the lake lapping against the docks. There are lots of picnic tables whether under the trees or on the patio, so plenty of seating. There is a bar in the outside corner with a little bit of additional seating and an indoor bar as well. The singer performing while we visited was Rob Nichols who did an amazing job. Bring your dancing shoes as well. Boats can pull up and tie off on one of two decks that reach out into the water. This place is unique and worth the visit.

    Chicken sandwich, excellent!

Awesome food! Service was pretty good as well. My suggestion would be : if you were there for the music, do not sit so close. Everything was wonderful!

First off: the good stuff. What a wonderful location. It's right on the water. The views are fantastic, including a baby alligator. Our server was efficient and the food was tasty, except my wife reports her pulled pork sandwich was dry. I liked my grouper sandwich but I am spoiled. After eating Frenchy's in Dunedin for years, this just didn't match up. I'm also finding, food at a restaurant is getting mighty expensive. It's costly to eat out. I guess I'm expecting the quality to go up too. Alas, nope.

I have returned to the Hideaway many times since my last review and have enjoyed every visit. The music is excellent...drinks are made well and the staff is awesome. Food is ok...it comes out of the kitchen hot and the prices are reasonable.

Have you ever wondered what German pastry heaven would look like?…read moreWell, look no further, Yalaha Bakery is what you've been dreaming of! My husband and I have been searching for a German bakery since we both have a sweet tooth for baked goodies. He's been telling me about how legendary German goulash tastes since before we got married (it's been a few years now ) and the Yalaha Bakery menu mentioned seasonal soup including goulash so of course we had to stop here. We visited on a rainy Wednesday afternoon around 4:45 pm. This place has modest architecture and a small parking lot, but don't let that fool you since as soon as you open the door, there are 4 glorious levels of tasty treats under a refrigerated glass display and fresh bread in shelves behind the counter. There were about 4 customers in the shop and a few others that came in while we were ordering. Everything looked so delectable, so it was hard to choose from the huge variety! Our bakery order ended up being quite large, so I'm glad my husband brought the cooler with him. We got 1 rhubarb pie (for a gift), 1 rhubarb streusel (another gift), 1 apple streusel, 1 German apple pie, 1 tiramisu, 2 lavender shortbread cookies, 1 eclair, 1 cream horn, 1 Brazilian caramel bar, 4 pretzel rolls, and 4 large pretzels. There might be a few other things as well. The order was about $125 with tip. Excellent customer service by the counter girl, and she was very patient while we were deciding on things. After we packed our pastries in the cooler, we went back to check out the deli section. They had a lot of German deli items to choose from, but what I was really interested in was the goulash. The very kind counter lady (possibly the owner?) took my order, and I couldn't have asked for a heartier, soul-warming soup for about $6. The meat was cooked to soft perfection. The veggies (peppers, tomato, and potato if I recall correctly) melted away while you sipped the soup that tasted like it was made by your favorite extra-skilled German grandma. I was in stew heaven. Of course, I shared a few spoonfuls with my husband, and it was gone in a few minutes. All in all, we discovered that Yalaha Bakery is a hidden gem in Yalaha, FL. If you love bakeries and handmade treats like we do, this is a great place to visit. Prepare your bank account to splurge on pastries, artisan German bread, and remember to stop by the deli! We'll be back again next time we're in the area on one of our road trips.

We stopped around 11:45am and it just opened not long before, so it was quiet with few people there. The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful. We were seated immediately and had a table by the windows overlooking the lake. What a great spot on a sunny day! My dad ordered the Reuben sandwich, but asked for no sauerkraut, he loves a good Corned Beef sandwich. It was done really well and he loved it. He had the homemade chips as well which complimented the meal perfectly. I had their special, a Mahi strip basket. It came with a generous amount of Mahi Mahi and fries. It was super tasty. If I were coming through the city of Howey in the Hills, FL, again, I'd stop here for sure for another meal. They had a decent selection of apps, entrees and sandwiches/burgers, it would be the same thing. They also have an outdoor patio I'd love to try on a hot spring/summer eve. If you're in the neighborhood, I'd tell you go here and try it out!

It's a cute little spot with classic car photos all over the walls and that old-school 50's diner vibe that just feels right for a morning meal. Our server was Katie, friendly and efficient. My wife and I both ordered the 2-2-2 -- two eggs cooked to order, two meats, and two pancakes. She went with scrambled eggs and bacon, I chose over-easy eggs and sausage patties. She mentioned the bacon was a little on the salty side, but I really enjoyed my sausage patties -- good flavor and cooked just right. The pancakes were the star of the show. Light, fluffy, and huge -- like small hubcaps taking over the plate. The only thing that would've made them better would be whipped butter and warm syrup. That little extra touch would have taken them over the top. Portion sizes were generous for sure, but the price caught me off guard. We both drank water and our total came to $31 for breakfast. As a former chef, I know breakfast is one of the most cost-effective meals to produce -- it's usually the best money-maker for restaurants. While the portions were solid and the food was good, the price point gives me pause. I'd come back for the hearty portions and those fluffy pancakes, but the pricing might make me think twice. 4 stars -- had to deduct one for value.
