My post today is a "Buyer Beware" alert regarding MJM Window Restoration owned by Mike Madorsky…read more(http://mjmwindowrestoration.com/). This firm just completed a whole house window restoration project for me in Shaker Heights for approximately $40,000. It involved painting windows inside and out, repairing some windows and installing triple track storm windows through a subcontractor. Work began in February 2019 and was completed in June 2019. I would point out three areas of concern: 1. MJM/Mike Madorsky increased the bill four separate times based on errors he made in estimating the job. (This does not include times that I approved additional work.) My advice would be to get a detailed, window-by-window estimate with written detail on exactly what work will and will not be done on each and every window and tracking it window by window in writing as work proceeds. I tried to get this but was never successful. This added thousands of dollars to the project. 2. The quality of the work was nominally adequate, nothing more. The bottom windows open, in some cases just barely enough to reach the screen. Plenty of instances of sloppy work (locks that only close partially, bottoms of windows not painted, paint dripped between the top and bottom windows, etc. etc.). My advice would be to ask to see -- in person -- final work at jobs MJM has completed to ensure you are on the same page about what quality work looks like and then require a daily inspection/review with written reports on a window by window basis. A big job is very different than a one-off window repair. 3. Customer service was lousy, period. Communication was bad. Cleanup was terrible. The project took way too long in part because one of the two workers wouldn't work past 3 p.m. on any given day. I don't have any advice on how to make the customer service experience better. If you are considering using MJM Window Restoration/Mike Madorsky, I hope these suggestions are helpful to getting a better outcome. Knowing what I know now, I would not have hired this firm under any circumstances and I would never recommend them. Thus this "Buyer Beware" post. For context, I hired two dozen contractors over a four-year project period while restoring a century home in San Francisco from 2013-2017. Since moving to Shaker Heights in 2018, I have hired about 10 contractors to help restore/upgrade our new home. Throughout all those experiences, we haven't had any significant dissatisfaction with the exception of MJM/Mike Madorsky.

I paid a window contractor that ordered windows from CL. Rudy with CL allowed the contractor to get…read morethe windows on credit even though Rudy stated to me later "that he felt it may have been a mistake" The contractor never paid the money and this resulted in CL putting a lien on my house. I never knew what supply house the contractor used until I saw the sticker on one of the windows after researching when I received a letter from a law firm. The lien was placed on my house because the contractor used my address. Just be cautious when dealing with Rudy and CL. I will never use or recommend this unprincipled, unethical company.

We were recommended by a friend to consider Bright Covers when we were finishing off a recent…read moreremodel. The cover is not as large as we could have used, we did cut down on size because of the cost. The quality of the product is excellent, and the fact that we were able to have the product manufactured locally is also a big selling point. Our family believes in "shopping local". We started the process late summer '24, and from the beginning we told the salesman we wanted to secure the "referral bonus" that was advertised. Just as a "heads up" some may feel skeptical with the sales part - as you do get discounts if you pay up front. I was not anticipating to write a large check the day the guy first came out here, but it was clearly to our benefit to do so. We had researched the company, the product, and had a referral from a trusted friend, so we moved forward from Day 1. This is a bit unnerving to me when discussing thousands of dollars. I was sure to mention multiple times in conversations from the very beginning in the ordering process, to installation, to follow-up, that we were referred by this friend of ours. She had really gone out of her way to invite us over to take a look, answered questions, and gave us a good "run down" - I feel like she earned the money! The company clearly advertises $175.00 referral bonus. During our dealings with Bright Covers, I made multiple calls because it became embarrassing to me that every time I saw my friend I would ask her if she got the referral fee and it had still not come. Now that it is March, and this all started last summer, I got very firm in a phone call about this referral money. I really hate having to do this because you know the person on the other end of the phone is bearing the brunt of something they probably knew nothing about. Our friend did get the check this week. The representative I spoke to was discussing how they are currently working to fix the process regarding referrals. She was excellent in helping me resolve the issue. It's early in the game to discuss durability of this cover/ We had a pretty lousy winter here, the weight of the snow was a non-issue. I have to say so far it has been money well spent - it is beautiful, the quality seems to be amazing, and we are hoping for many years of enjoying our time out on the patio!

I have been visiting Clearvue since I was a kid. My dad owns a small glass company and always buys…read morehis glass from Clearvue. We buy many types of glass here, but they're known for their excellent thermal panes. Now and then, the rubber seals on thermal panes get punctured and the gas inside escapes. Moisture gets in between the panes of glass, which looks like fog, and they lose their insulating value. This is when you know it's time to replace your thermal panes. Thermal panes really are not that hard to replace. I have replaced many of my own fogged units because my houses have old windows. Thermal panes typically last something like 15 - 20 years before they need to be replaced. Clearvue only sells glass to glazers. People who install glass for a living are called "glazers". So you can't just walk into Clearvue and by glass. You're better off calling a glazer. However, they do offer top notch products.

Sometimes when you are dealing with an insurance company you need an advocate. Over the years…read morecounter Powers has been that advocate for me. August 6th of 2024 we had a tornado come through Concord township and we had quite a bit of damage to our roof. I called Connor he came over looked at the roof made some repairs I asked him if I should file an insurance claim he said no not yet we still don't know the extent of the damage. Brutally honest. Almost a year went by and I started to lose even more shingles and after I called Connor over one or two more times he said I'm afraid it's time to get that claim going your shingles have exhibited more damage than we thought. I was wondering why shingles were ending up in my garden beds. So I filed an insurance claim in September of 25 and to be quite Frank and quite honest it has been the worst experience in the world. Connor provided all of the pictures all of the paperwork that the provider requested and at times they would ghost us for weeks. It came up to almost October of 2025 but the weather is starting to turn when our roof was finally approved. Initially they tried to just replace 10 squares of shingles but they did not tell us where so they were hoping maybe throw some money at the insured and maybe he'll go away. Conor fought for me. He was able to patch my roof up with some tarping that you could actually barely notice. When spring came around and the snow was gone he had to have it about 40°. The roof job officially started. Unfortunately when he found some more rotted wood around my chimney he had to submit a supplement to the insurance company which again she straight up just ignored us for weeks. Connor was relentless. Between numerous emails and phone calls we finally got the attention of the insurance company again. They approved the supplement Connor made all of the repairs to my poor house. I referred him to anybody who will listen and needs roof work. What a straight-up honest nice man. Powers roofing for the win.
