This is a pretty body of water. As a park it's quite pleasant. The sad part is development is encroaching the area big time. What used to be a quiet place, isn't what it was. Yet this is a common theme in northern Virginia. Park employees are excellent though. I do like my times over here. Some of my best fishing trips used to be here. Whether it's overfishing or VGIF isn't stocking as much, I'm not sure what's going on. There are some walleye. Last few years I've caught some crappie, catfish, and bluegill. The bass caught have been small. Used to find the area by the water containment to be top notch. Now I use the walk our dock that's got a roof on it. Beautiful lake . You can rent paddle boats or boat with a motor for up to 4 hours . Cash only . There's an officer that comes around every now and then - if you get stopped by him, he'll ask to see your fishing / hunting etc license . If you don't have it he'll ticket your for $23. The one I ran into was really nice . They have Porto potty bathrooms ( very cramped -- I'm 5'8 and was struggling to move around without touching anything! ) . Real gross . Bring hand sanitizer and your own wipes just in case ! read more

It is sad that this lake is not a better out door spot. There is new construction of homes right near the lake. Trees were removed and it is noisy everyday now. The lake lacks a decent trail. It would be great if you could walk around the whole lake. Outhouses stink up the parking area. Fishermen leave tackle about and people leave their cigarette butts and other trash. read more

I love Lake Brittle , I am so thankful that I live one block away , so I can walk my dogs every day and look at it and enjoy it. I just called and the boat rental is 15 dollars per hour , that is not huge , I read one review that stated 55. Will take the kids fishing there tomorrow , under 16 you do not need a license but you better not touch the rod if you are an adult or you will be fine if you do to have a license. Very relaxing , some weekend as I walk I can see that the amount of people is overwhelming , must be the covid and the fact that other places are closed. read more

I am only giving Lake brittle 2-stars due to the prices. Boat rental is a an outrageous price, all day John boat with out motor and just ores runs $55 a day where most places are $15. This used to be a top fishing spot for me when I was younger but this has pushed me away to go other places. I don't really understand why they are so high. I don't know how the fishing is at this point have not tried due to these cost. Last time I went they had re-done the damn which caused bad fishing conditions. I'm sure by now this has changed. If you are looking to fish from the shore, you can have a good time at a cheaper price. read more

Great local Virginia lake for fishing, hiking or even geocaching. I get minnows here for fishing in some of the other local lakes in the area. Never rented a boat here but plan to do so... Definitely do not try to fish here without a license. You will have a very bad day. Spend the $20 so you don't have to spend hundreds or thousands. read more

Great area lake with amenities; Technically the lake is only for fishermen as stated on the DGIF website, so you may need a valid license to walk or picnic, although we've never been "carded" but we have our DGIF/BoatUS app at the ready to show we're licensed and certified. Great views during the fall, lots of canada geese, heron, and around October/November a couple of white swans show up at the far shallow end. read more

This place is actually the juice for fishing I would recommend fishing by the rocks cause that's where the fish are the first time we went we caught one dozen fishes so now we only come hear our biggest catch so far would be a catfish of 4.4 pounds but yes there is a variety of fish bluegill , many catfish , walleye and probably a dozen more read more

Long term resident in the area. Always had a good experience except for today. Tried to rent a boat for the first time and the service was horrible. The girl (manager's daughter) was rude and not helpful. Gave us a boat with a broken lever. Said there couldn't be more than 3 people. We had 2 adults and 2 children in a boat but then we saw a boat with four large male adults. To solve the people limit, we asked to rent a second boat and she said there wasn't enough batteries for the motors, even though we saw about 6 in the shed. She was very condescending and complained that she was there since early in the morning which is why she was rude. She forgot to give my change since you could only pay in cash. I had to ask for it. Her attitude was unacceptable. We recommend the lake (other than the liter everywhere). Just bring your own boat and avoid headaches for you and the family. read more

Was looking for a place where the dog could swim. Although the water appeared pretty clear there was lots of plants growing in water near shore near the boat ramp area. Also, it was pretty smelly there. Took walk to the right past the dock with a picnic table and let the dog swim off the rocks. No yucky weds there but a little hard to get to and from water. You can tell the game warden jumps at the chance to write citations for every little thing you do. He waits until the boats are coming back in until he checks passes instead of being proactive and educating the users. He wants you to already be in violation so he can write you up. Now I'm all for following the rules, but he took it to the extreme. It was crazy. He makes it feel like he's always watching and waiting to jump on any opportunity to nail someone, so it made me and my family uncomfortable. It wasn't relaxing or fun knowing that he was always lurking. I don't think we'll be back anytime soon. read more

I went to Lake brittle today only to find that the concession stand is now cash only and you have to give your personal cell phone number for a boat rental when they already require holding your drivers license, As I was told today "No Cell Phone number, No boat". I won't go back! read more
